We are a small (14 spots) locally owned and operated rv park right on the Atchafalaya River. My name is Leonard Price, owner and operator of Cajun Country Rv Park. I’m a local, and I live here on site. We have a beautiful and unique location here that was once three different commercial fishing docks. Before that, it was the site of a Union Army Fort built in 1863 to defend the island from invading rebel forces ( the Mosquito Fleet). Right across from the mouth of Bayou Teche, it was a strategic location that could also defend the river pass to the North. We welcome you here for your stay with us. I am around every day, so feel free to come and talk, or ask about the local area.

Big rigs should enter using the Silo Road gated entrance. Call ahead and a park staff member will meet you to open the gate that is normally locked. It is located just west of the main entrance, closer to the aviation museum. There is an old F-4 fighter jet outdoor display nearby.

    Great for quick trip

We are a family that does alot of camping. My 11 year old calls State Parks camping for beginners. That said, we really enjoy the variety of parks we have in Louisiana for quick trips. Sometimes the forest beckons us and we don't have the time or resources to do the primitive thing. Lauke Fausse itself appears to be a very small park. What land there is to explore is beautiful. But people this is Louisiana, you are smack dab in the middle of wetlands so be prepared for damp, humid and buggy. Our biggest mistake was not providing enough time to get canoes.or kayaks. The large majority of this state park is water, which you are encouraged to explore. A large number of sites even have small docks. If you, like us, have friends who like to say the want to come camping but then panic when they can't find wifi, haha, your best bet is over by pavilions near old bird island. Available are premium sites, a couple TENTR sites, and apparently a site only accessible by canoe.

    Decent Spot

It's a decent spot for being nearby to Lafayette. The thing I don't like is the expensive prices for State Parks in Louisiana and the closed gates that don't allow late night entrance. Small man made pond in the back, watched a kid catch a large bass a few years back. The primitive hike in spots are on the back side of the pond so you have to hike in about a mile to rent camp for cheaper than the price of the RV pull up spots. This is a newer state park and it has nice, clean, large facilities with showers and bathrooms. The trail is super short. Overall the park is very small. Fun spot for kayak fishing. Noticed lots of invasive apple snails.

    Wet

First of all, if your rig is over 10’ tall, don’t come in through Butte LaRose, there’s a bridge you won’t get across! Come in through Henderson. That being said, I wasn’t impressed. We were under the mistaken impression that they honored the Nat’l park pass and gave you 1/2 off the price. We paid a total of $36 which included the $6 online reservation fee even though we did not reserve online. We’ve never been charged this fee in any other park as a “walk in”. The men’s bathroom and shower was closed but they had a portable one set up with one shower which was in the handicapped toilet stall and only one other toilet stall and one urinal. Needless to say, you hand to wait in line even though there were only about 10 other campers there. This is a poorly maintained campground with huge potholes in the road going in and standing water everywhere. If Louisiana is going to charge me a reservation fee for a walk-in, I’ll stay in another state. The sites on the water are $42 and there is no cell service anywhere in the park. Supposedly there is wi-fi in some areas but they couldn’t tell me where that was and I never found it.

    Very nice camping area

I think this is a very nice camping area for both RV’s and tent camping, but it does have some minor drawbacks. There is a protected area on the lake within the park that you can launch your boat and they do have two restrooms with showers as well as washers and dryer’s to clean your clothes. Bathrooms in nearly every camping area across the country I’ve been to aren’t exactly up to home standards, but it is functional. The people working at the park have always been friendly and helpful. I like to tent camp and even the tent campsites have electrical hook ups. The truly bizarre thing about that is we are located in South Louisiana where the temperatures are absolutely brutally hot and majority of the year and yet they have a rule that clearly states you cannot have an air conditioner in your tent. And luckily, I didn’t see that the first four or five times I stayed there and no one said a word. Why in the world could you not hook up a portable AC unit in your tent considering electrical hook ups are provided and AC units make nearly no noise? Speaking of noise, the park is located in just inside a 90° curve in the highway with two sets of rumble strips in each direction. Being located practically within the city limits of Morgan city, or noise from traffic and the rumble strips doesn’t quiet down until well after midnight and picks back up again in full force around 5 AM. I couple that with the majority of the people here wanting their trucks to make the most noise possible, it’s a bit distracting and makes sleep difficult. Like all camping areas, people are going to listen to all manners and types of music but that quiet down significantly after 10 PM. my last trip about a week ago I noticed that my particular campsite was covered in fire ants that would start to build colonies within all your camping equipment left on the ground outside and they also built a major ant city underneath our tent that wasn’t an issue until I was breaking down the camp and the ants decided to scatter all over the tent inside and out. the fishing is fantastic down here and the wildlife is incredible. You will see alligators of course along with rabbits, black squirrels, osprey bald eagles as well as seagulls and pelicans given our close proximity to the gulf coast. The office has people working in it every day of the week and and there is a Coke machine at the office and they do sell 8 pound bags of ice for $2. Overall, I really like camping here and then will continue to do so as long as no one says anything about having an AC unit in my tent as I would not consider staying in a tent in South Louisiana without one.

Beautiful, but go in the fall

The park is beautiful: trees, swamp, lakes, and bayous. Some sites (28-33 at least) have small piers on the canal for fishing or taking out the kayak. There are multiple boat launches, one in and several near the campgrounds. You can also rent canoes.

Perfect Disconnected on the Water Getaway

We stayed at spot 38. We we're right on the water with our own dock/deck. Close to the restrooms but not much through traffic. Dumpster was right across next to the bathrooms. Not a lot of street lights throughout the campground made things nice and quiet at night. Spots were asphalt and needed a decent bit of leveling. The water and electricity hookups were on the camp side, which made for an awkward parking job to accommodate for the cord lengths. The site had no Verizon cell service, in order to receive notifications or just make a phone call you have to walk back towards the main road. The hiking trails were very nice with lots of shorts and long options. The canoe trails were also nice with the ability to rent kayaks or canoes. Overall the campground was clean, relativity quiet, right on the water, and is perfect if you are looking to disconnect.

    So many employees

So many employees yet the bathrooms were dirty and trash was on the ground. Many bbq stands were broken and tent pads under water. Otherwise, camp was good. Way off the beaten path, quiet, spacious, lots of water which means lots of mosquitoes. Camp host had pet off leash so rules are not followed. Great discounts for military.

    Another swampy Louisiana SP

Almost feel sorry for the park system. All this rain & nowhere for it to go.

All in all it is a pretty nice park with level asphalt pads. Some full hook up, some w&e only. Didn't get to see most of the park as it was closed due to flooding. No cell service at all. Did not try the bath house. Basically stayed in our rv because of the mosquitoes.

Low Lying Area (think swampy), but RV Pads High and Dry

Park is in pretty good shape, although it appears that the state park system is low on funding and resources, as some facilities are closed and maintenance is needed in certain areas.  The park is located within a large watershed/basin, so seasonal rains can have an impact on the area at large.  With that being said, being at the heart of this basin allows for many water borne recreational activities.  Boating, kayaking/canoeing, fishing, observation of diverse flora and fauna.  Besides having access to a boat launch on site, there are several boat launches with access to other water bodies within a few miles of the park.

Have been to the park a few times over the last 20 years.  Have stayed in the old cabins a few times and have also made day visits to the park.  My most recent visit was my first visit as an RVer.  I stayed at campsite 40, which has water access, with a dock.  This was convenient for launching kayaks.  I found the rv pad to be on the narrow side of things and the utilities (water/electric) were located in an odd location.  I forgot my electric power extension cord and had to pull up on the pad, in order to reach the electric service.  I had to run the water hose under the rv and across the outdoor walking/living area.  I'm not sure if these sites were poorly designed or if intended for drive in setup.  The sites on interior or opposite side of road seemed to be setup with utilities on the "correct" side.  Also, we could not extend the canopy, due to a tree being in the way.  Sorry, I do not have pictures of the site, but I see someone else has posted pics of site 40.

Mosquitos were swarming post rain shower, which occurred each day of the trip.  So, cool weather camping may be preferable, or perhaps when water is not standing in the low lying areas (the whole park is essentially a low area).

Updated shower house, lots of wildlife and water with good sites

We stayed one night here in a pop-up camper. It was cold, so we didn't have the mosquito problems that so many mention. It's true wetland country, surrounded by a canal, a lake, and a bayou. We'd like to come back with a kayak. Sites were nice and private, bath house was exceptional (especially compared with other LA state parks), and it was quiet. Only negative was that it's not on the beaten path, which might actually be a positive!

    Nice campground

We stayed here this past weekend and really enjoyed our stay. The hiking trails are well maintained and easy to follow! We were able to kayak through a lot of water areas as well! The park rents canoes for people to use if you don’t have your own. We got to experience the Dutch Oven Society, which was GREAT!! If you are ever at a camp ground and they are around, you should check out their demonstration and sample all the great food they cook! The RV site was big enough for our bumper pull, but there was a large tree on the site that kept us from being able to put out the awning. Thankfully it was a nice weekend so it wasn’t missed. Also, the fire pit and picnic table was close to the road. We found it oddly placed. All the sites seemed to have tent pads and plenty of shade. Definitely bring some mosquito spray and citronella candles. The water everywhere brings them out! All in all, o would recommend this park! We had a great time and will go back!

CCU#4, unimproved canoe campsite #4, at Lake Fausse Point State Park, Louisiana

Nice primitive campsite on an island that you get to by boat (motor boat/canoe/kayak). Site is also known as Highland Waters campsite. Nice big flat area under trees including large live oaks to set up your tents or hammocks under. Has a fire ring, but no toilets, no water, no electrical. Does have a covered wooden table to serve as a rough kitchen kiosk. Wooden dock by waters edge also has a picnic table. Must call the state park to reserve this site.

Bayou camping- bring/rent a kayak or SUP to maximize the experience

If you know about the Bayou and the beauty it has to offer, this can be a great place from which to explore. The friends who came out here with me were disappointed by the murky, swampy, okay just-plain-brown waters. I, on the other hand, was totally enchanted by the trees and the swamp. If I could do it again, I'd take kayaks in order to access the kayak-only campsites. Other than that, most of their offerings are overly developed for my taste (read RV). There are kayak rentals nearby and during the summer there is a splash pad area for keeping cool. I was here a few years ago, I hear it is still recovering from the floods that hit shortly after our visit. Would be worth checking in to make sure all infrastructure is back up. the bugs are gnarly, no getting around it.

We love this park. We had morning coffee with a gator lingering under our feet. Definitely pay extra money for the premium site. There is no cell phone service. There are washers and dryer. Bring strong bug spray

Went to go to one of the paddle in sites or backpack sites however was warned the mosquitoes were horrible. Decided to get a day pass and rent a canoe and then hike the trails. Canoe trip was nice, however was unable to go far on walk due to the thick blanket of mosquitoes. I’m sure its nice once they arent so bad. Was able to take a bunch of pictures and have a good trip regardless, but disappointed I couldn’t stay. Also had absolutely no service sith verizon, except for one or two spots (one on the trail and one in the canoe after paddling for an hour.) may try again when it cools down.

Sewer, electric, and water worked perfect. Dog park. Laundry was spotless. Crazy Cajuns get rowdy on weekends at the clubhouse. Join them you won’t regret it. My site was across the street from one of the 5 large ponds to fish in. 21 was a shaded spot and only 5 spots from playground, splash pad, pool and store.Great people to work with. Golf carts to rent with lots of room to ride around. Only improvement could be on bathroom and showers no a/c or doors ,only curtains but clean just bugs and heat down falls.
