Beautiful setting," noted a visitor who appreciated the woodpecker activity visible from their accommodation. Lake Chicot State Park in Arkansas also features cabin rentals with more extensive amenities, including full kitchens and private bathrooms.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. The cabins at Leroy Percy State Park accommodate small families, while larger units can be found at Chemin-A-Haut State Park in Bastrop, Louisiana. Chemin-A-Haut State Park

Amazing state park, sadly underfunded. Still worth a trip.

Pretty state park, swimming pool during summer, gorgeous trails on an enchanting bayou, wooded back in slots with a camp host, not much to do in Bastrop but this park is a great attraction. No sewage but there is a dump station. There is also tent camping, cabins, and equestrian camping and trails but there have been budget cuts that prevent horse trail maintenance and road repairs, so you don’t know what you’ll get sometimes. The park has playgrounds and pavilions.

    Lake Chicot State Park Campground

    nice park

After booking through Arkansas State Parks website, we received a follow up call from the park itself which was unusual but very nice. We booked site 42 in area B but there was standing water in the site so we got site 50. We chose this site because it was on higher ground and relatively close to the bath house in area D. The bath house in our area is no longer opened. Bath house D is very nice. We had no problems switching sites probably due to the off season.

Camping areas C and E are closed. Area F has full hook-ups and 30 amps. The sites are nice but a little short. Cabins are VERY nice. Area A contains the prime sites with full hook-ups and 30 and 50 amps. There is a bait store and a marina which rents boats (closed due to off-season). There is a fishing pier, basketball court, pool, 3 pavilions, playground, and a horseshoe pit. The visitor's center is very nice and informative.

Wildlife seems to be abundant as we saw dozens of deer, large raccoons, squirrels, pelicans, and ducks.

Cell phone (Verizon) and antenna reception are good possibly because there are no leaves on the trees.

Nice RV spots with full hookups. Cellular service isn’t great but they do have Wi-Fi. The RV camping area has a nice, new, and clean restroom and shower facility with coin-operated laundry.

    Chemin-A-Haut State Park

    Ok for last minute

It was a last minute booking, for a holiday weekend, after a major hurricane. Campground was nice, nice & clean bathhouses, nice pool[closed due to pandemic]. Cabins looked nice, too. Just have to be careful what sight you book, because I almost never got my camper level in sight #21. All in all, I would make a return trip

    Leroy Percy State Park Campground

Small state park makes a great stopover

Leroy Percy State Park is a small, but pretty state park with 16 full hookup campsites, 4 cabins and a nice disc golf course. Most of the campsites are shaded, at least for part of the day. Other than one other camper who appeared to have been there awhile, we were the only occupied campsite. Mosquitoes caused us to eat dinner inside our trailer, although it was otherwise nice enough to eat outside. The bathrooms were old, but mostly clean. The only exception being the handicapped men's shower which was a mess.

    Chemin-A-Haut State Park

    Small, good kayaking

The park is on the smaller side with plenty of cabins and good places to kayak, canoe, and fish. The bayou is very nice. The pool is a little run down looking as of late summer 2019. We went trial hiking but this was a little difficult as the walking trails aren’t really maintained (the horse trails are maintained and clearly marked).

    Chemin-A-Haut State Park

    Wonderful state park

Bathrooms are hands down the best I’ve ever seen. Campsites aren’t on top of each other but are pretty close. My tent wouldn’t fit on the tent pad but was able to find a level spot to set up anyways. The lake was pretty busy with people fishing or paddling. Two room cabins looked pretty great and are on the water. Had two playgrounds and kids trail. Went to go to kayak out to Castle Tree and found out the water was too high to really see the base of it and it’s a two hr paddle upstream on the way there. So plan on calling ahead if you’re going to do that since the water can also be too low.

Guide to Lake Providence

Cabin accommodations near Lake Providence, Louisiana range from rustic to modern, with several state parks offering rental units across Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Seasonal availability fluctuates with summer being the peak reservation period for most properties. Winter visitors often find more availability and quieter surroundings at these regional cabin rentals.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lake Chicot State Park provides excellent fishing access with multiple piers and boat rentals. "Wildlife seems to be abundant as we saw dozens of deer, large raccoons, squirrels, pelicans, and ducks," notes a visitor to Lake Chicot State Park Campground.

Water recreation: Kayaking and canoeing options are available at several parks, particularly for viewing cypress trees. "There's supposed to be a route by canoe to old growth trees but water is too high," mentions a camper at Chemin-A-Haut State Park, indicating seasonal water level changes affect activities.

Disc golf: Several parks maintain course facilities for disc golf enthusiasts. "We brought our kayaks and got some fishing done in alligator lake but only after playing an 18 hole disc golf course!" reports a visitor to Leroy Percy State Park.

What campers like

Modern facilities: Many parks have updated their amenities recently. "Bathrooms are hands down the best I've ever seen. Campsites aren't on top of each other but are pretty close," writes a camper about Chemin-A-Haut State Park.

Lakefront views: Waterfront cabins provide scenic settings at several locations. "Waterfront sites are wonderful, however the other sites are much less attractive. Clean facilities," notes a visitor to Lake Chicot State Park.

Wildlife viewing: Cabin occupants regularly report wildlife sightings from their accommodations. "There was only one other camper there, and they were loud and obnoxious. The only plus was a huge beautiful owl that stayed by and visited," mentions a Lake Chicot visitor despite other drawbacks.

What you should know

Seasonal closures: Off-season visitors should verify which amenities remain operational. "There is a bait store and a marina which rents boats (closed due to off-season)," reports a Lake Chicot camper.

Site variations: Quality and features vary significantly between sites at the same park. "After booking through Arkansas State Parks website, we received a follow up call from the park itself which was unusual but very nice. We booked site 42 in area B but there was standing water in the site so we got site 50," explains a Lake Chicot visitor.

Budget constraints: Some facilities show signs of funding limitations. "Amazing state park, sadly underfunded. Still worth a trip," reports a visitor to Chemin-A-Haut State Park who adds "there have been budget cuts that prevent horse trail maintenance and road repairs, so you don't know what you'll get sometimes."

Pool availability: Swimming pools operate seasonally at certain parks. "Nice small fishing lake and swimming pool modern bath houses really nice cabins," reports a visitor to Leroy Percy State Park.

Site specifics: Certain site numbers are more level than others. "Just have to be careful what sight you book, because I almost never got my camper level in sight #21," warns a Chemin-A-Haut camper.

Overnight convenience: Some locations work better for single-night stays. "Sites were level enough that we didn't unhook. Stayed here in a 29' travel trailer. FHU," notes a visitor to Pecan Grove RV Park.

Cell service: Connectivity varies by location and season. "Cell phone (Verizon) and antenna reception are good possibly because there are no leaves on the trees," reports a Lake Chicot visitor, while another notes "TMobile good coverage" at the same location.
