      Lake Claiborne State Park Campground

      Fantastic facilities

I camped on two occasions while in north LA on business. Bath houses are new, clean and climate controlled. Plenty of sites to choose from when I stayed though all of the waterfront sites were taken. Family friendly, not rowdy. I’d take young kids without hesitation if mine weren’t grown.

      Great Park

This is a parish ran park that is very well maintained. Security measures are excellent. The park is shaded and all sites are either lake side or almost. There are back-in and pull-through sites. Not all of the park is FHU but they have three pull through dumps. There is a new bathhouse that is very clean and requires a code to be entered on a keypad for entry. There is a small wildlife sanctuary (zoo but no petting) and free roaming peacocks. Good fishing from the docks or by boat. The park is close to shopping, casinos, and restaurants. Love this park.

      Shreveport Bossier City KOA

Don't know why this place gets good reviews

The pool was closed the whole time we were there. I could understand a day, but they just kept trying to fix it themselves instead of getting a professional. We stayed here for the pool so, at$55 bucks for grass and gravel and no pool, we were not impressed. The women's toilets were new and clean, but the showers were nasty. The long-term campers were nice, but the transients were super rude, parked in your campground arrogantly, and didn't obey quiet hour rules. One camper opened and shut his truck doors over 20 times early in the morning. He was pacing around like a little kid looking for attention. You are quite a long drive from downtown and in not a good area of town either

      Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area

      I'd give 10 stars if I could

We rolled in without a reservation which led to a wonderful interaction with the gate people. My dog came in as well to entertain them while I selected a site.

I had the pick of many because it was February. I loved the spaciousness of each site leaving a lot of room between you and your neighbors.

The bathhouse was immaculately clean. I went in expecting a typical park shower room with spiders or bugs. There were NONE. The bathhouse was heated and a welcome chance to shower in something other than a matchbox.

      I really can't recommend enough.

      Grand Bayou Resort

Good campground to return to annually

This camp ground is well kept. There is a nice beach and really nice fishing pears and dock. There is a large open pavilion to rent as well as an enclosed group building. Cabins and duplex housing are also an option. I prefer the pull through full hook up section but there are plenty of tent and RV sites with water and electricity. There are some short trails and an amphitheater is located near the bath house. I try to camp there once a year.

      Caddo Lake State Park Campground

      Magical state park

Camped at site #63 in the Mill Pond Camping Area - tent area. This site backed up onto Saw Mill Pond - beautiful cypress swamp. Bugs were not too bad. Gravel drive on site. Level tent pad. Water only; no electric. Clean fire ring. Lantern post. Large site, good separation from other sites. Campground is heavily wooded, lots of shade. Campground is clean & nicely maintained. One restroom is at the entrance to the Mill Pond camping area, just off of a day use parking lot. No shower in this restroom. A newer, nicer restroom/shower house is located in the Woodpecker camping area. Quiet campground; no issues. Good AT&T service. Despite saying it's allowed in the campground features list, alcohol is prohibited. Excellent T-Mobile 5G service.

      Shreveport Bossier City KOA

Tucked away from the highway is this sweet little KOA with all the amenities. There are rv and tents sites plus cabins, a pool, showers, laundry. You are surrounded by forest, so it feels like "camp". This would be a nice place to locate when exploring Shreveport attractions.

    Guide to Bossier City

The area sits at relatively low elevations, typically between 100-200 feet above sea level, creating unique wetland camping environments. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity, while winters remain relatively mild with occasional freezes.

Hiking woodland trails: Lake Claiborne State Park features several marked hiking paths through diverse terrain. "The King of the Mountain Trail is my favorite because of its wooden bridge and tiny waterfall," shares Sarah B., highlighting specific trail features that attract repeat visitors.

Kayaking cypress forests: Buffalo Bayou RV Park offers direct water access for paddlers. "There's 3 trails close to the park. Trails took 1-2 hours depending on which one you take and how fast you paddle," explains Malae H., describing the accessible paddling routes from camp.

Wildlife viewing: Beyond the zoo mentioned in the existing description, Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area has natural wildlife viewing opportunities. "Watch for snakes. Lots of trees. Great walking," warns Stephanie B., reminding visitors to remain alert while exploring.

Clean, modern facilities: The bathhouses at Lake Claiborne State Park stand out for their quality. "Bathhouses are new, clean and climate controlled," notes Jason W., who found this particularly valuable during business trips to the area.

    What you should know

Seasonal insects: Mosquitoes can be problematic in warmer months, particularly near water. "This is on a bayou so be prepared for mosquitoes," warns Jason W. at Buffalo Bayou RV Park, suggesting visitors bring appropriate repellent.

Limited cell service: Connectivity can be spotty at certain campgrounds. "Wi-Fi did not work anywhere in park (signal broadcasted fine just no connection to internet) AT&T is non-existent," reports Brent C. about his stay at Lake Claiborne State Park.

Campsite terrain: Many sites require careful leveling. "Sites are humped on pull thru sites so long rigs will have trouble leveling," notes Lee T. about Grand Bayou Resort, providing important setup information.

Biking opportunities: Paved surfaces at several parks accommodate young cyclists. "The pavement is well kept and great for kids to ride bikes or scooters," notes Sarah B., mentioning an activity perfect for families with excess energy to burn.

Disc golf courses: Lake Claiborne State Park features recreational options beyond standard camping activities. "Two Disc Golf Courses and hiking trails," points out Penny A., offering an alternative family activity not requiring additional equipment.

    Tips from RVers

Overnight convenience: Shreveport Bossier City KOA works well for travelers passing through. "Plenty of room for 44 ft motorhome and Jeep toad without unhooking," shares James R., appreciating the pull-through site design for quick stops.

Hookup variations: Electrical connections differ between campgrounds and sites. "I went to plug in the power and the box was very old and no 30 amp plug. It only had a 50 amp and 110v plug," warns David B. about his experience at Grand Bayou Resort.

Supply proximity: Nearby shopping options make extended stays easier. "Walmart right down the street for replenishing the goods," notes Michael about the Shreveport Bossier City KOA, referencing convenient access to necessities.
