Kisatchie National Forest's Saddle Bayou Camp Complex is a dispersed, primitive site managed by the US Forest Service in Dry Prong, Louisiana. No running water is available on site, though vault toilets are provided. The grounds see the most activity during hunting season; outside that window, vegetation tends to grow in and designated paths become less defined. Campers find their own spots based on previous use patterns, and firewood is generally available from the surrounding woods. Nearby options include Pearson Camp about two miles northeast and Bankston Camp Complex roughly five miles east, both similarly primitive. The entrance sign was down as of 2019, so first-time visitors should navigate carefully using coordinates rather than roadside markers. Bring all drinking water, as none is available on site.
Description
The Saddle Bayou Camp is a very primitive camping experience in a bottomland hardwood setting. Nearby National Catahoula Wildlife Management Preserve make the Saddle Bayou a popular camping area during hunting season.
