Stayed 2 nights mid week and campground wasn’t busy. Many nice tent sites and also good level RV sites. Easy access to hiking. Helpful resident manager. Management by Thousand Trails, although the campground is not associated at all with Thousand Trails. No reservations accepted. Self register and pay at the entrance.

GuideWe love the horse park. First location is wonderful. Literally on the grounds of the gorgeous Kentucky Horse Park and less than 30 minutes to UK’s Campus.
The sites are spacious and fairly flat. Big bonus for state parks. There are lots of mature trees which are great for every season of camping.
All sites are back in only and there are no full hook ups. This wasn’t an issue as there are 2 dump stations with 2 pipes each.
We recommend this to anyone!

We were very happy with this campground. It seemed a bit pricey for full hook-up but was very nice. The campground was very clean and well maintained. The entrance to the campground is surprisingly steep.
LegendKentucky Horse Park is a working horse farm and educational center. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 the tours were unavailable when we visited. Regardless, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The sites were spacious and well maintained. They all come with a picnic table, fire pit and full hook-ups. The bathrooms, showers and laundry room were clean and also well maintained. The staff was friendly and accommodating. A great location, especially if planning to visit Lexington during your stay.

There are two campgrounds within Natural Bridge State Resort Park—Whittleton and Middlefork. Three friends and I stayed at Middlefork, with a tent site right along the Middlefork Creek. The front part of this campground is RV/hookup, and you have to go over this hill to get to the primitive sites. The bathroom (toilets, showers, sinks) was decently kept (facilities were in the front half of the campground so we had to walk over that hill to get to it). We were able to purchase firewood on the grounds. The sites were pretty well spread out, but if you're looking to hang a hammock, it's not the most ideal spot with the trees tucked away or spread really far apart. We were a short drive from the park/bridge and several other hiking opportunities. The bridge was definitely busy, even at the end of September, but all of the trails we were on otherwise were pretty quiet. You can access some trails in the Daniel Boone National Forest by the Whittleton Campground. Overall, we had a great time, and plan to return!

We actually camped at Boat Gunnel which is a part of Twin Knobs Campground. We love this campground because it is a private area with 4 RV hookups and approximately 10 tent sites. You rent the entire place for $125 or $130 a night. It is close to the water. We left our boats down on the bank. You have a "private" restroom and shower house. Occasionally you will get a hiker or someone coming through the trails that will use it. The only reason that it didn't score perfect is that the showers need some attention. There was mud along side the blacktop path that led down to the fire pit that was full of mosquito larvae and smelled. Easy fix, but had to keep the kids and dogs away from it constantly. My sister took a nasty fall on the trail down to the waters edge and that would be an easy fix to make that trail a little smoother. I know we are camping, but with the price, it is actually glamping. We like this place because it is easy for my aging parents to come down and visit. Great, large shelter also.
GuideThis is one of our favorite places. Huge sites, not full hook up but easy to dump on the way out. Large trees, good shade. Stay on the outer ring and you can watch the horses throughout the day. Very easy to get to and Lexington is just minutes away.
Only negative is no pull throughs and if other campers have extra cars on their sites it can be a bit tight to get parked.
TravelerI’ve been camping here for 25 years, since I was 2 years old, so you can understand that this campground has a special place in my heart. We’ve camped the double sites, single sites, non-electric, you name it. There is only two sites with a full hook up, and the rest are either electric or non-electric, no water at either of them. We fill our fresh water tank when we come in at a water spigot, or we get a spot that has a close water spigot and use a really long water hose as needed. Bathhouses and restrooms as always clean, and hosts are friendly and informative. I have a family of two young boys and two furbabies, and we’ve never camped near a ‘party site’, though I’m sure if you acted like you had some sense, played music low, and threw back a few beers, no one would mind. Never had to complain on anyone. I highly recommend this campground, and would suggest it to anyone that loves to camp.
TravelerYou won't find full hookups or fancy bath houses, but what this campground lacks in amenities it makes up in scenic beauty. The campground has several trails, ranging in length, that let you explore some of the natural beauty of Red River Gorge. Sites are first come, first serve - which can be a pain…but if you plan for a Thursday / Friday morning arrival you shouldn't have a problem. Sites are well spaced and have major trees. The majority of campers were in tents, but there are a few sites that would work well for RVs. Some vault restrooms with a central bath house (showers, flush toilets, etc.) - nothing fancy, but gets the job done. Venture out of the campground and enjoy all Red River Gorge has to offer!
RangerOver 250 full hookup sites, great shade, beautiful trees, good size lots, however, some are on a grade making leveling difficult. Electric and primitive sites available. Great for equestrian trailers, convenient location off Interstate and right next to Kentucky Horse Park. Bathhouse, game room, laundry, camp store available. Numerous playgrounds and basketball courts for the kiddos. Swimming pool and for the avid hikers a trail that takes you to downtown Lexington.

RV park in the front, more primitive tent camping in the back. There is a pond/lake just big enough to fish and swim in, and there’s a rope swing the kids loved. This place has pretty good food made on site and had karaoke on Saturday nite with a good crowd. The spots were good, if not a bit close together. We didn’t have a picnic table but we brought a table so it wasn’t a big deal for us. Also I think they would get you one if you didn’t have one. Staff was great. Fire pit was Flinstone style: just a ring of rocks. But it got the job done. Very close to Slade and Stanton.

My husband and I stayed there for 8 months through the fall and winter of 2018 into the spring of 2019. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They have really worked hard to bring this campground back to a place you would like to stay. There are several who are residents there and are very nice as well. They do have camper storage at the top of the property which does have some older, broken-down looking units but also some very nice ones too. Full hook-ups for $395/mo if you are staying monthly. The only down-side to the stay was the husband of the couple that own it. He isn't very friendly at all. Our first night there, the electric went out at our pole and he kept trying to blame it on our RV when it turned out it was the main breaker for our line of electric poles and was his issue. He never apologized and was not nice at all. Any time he is there(which is very rarely) he is just an unhappy person. His wife is wonderful as are all the regular staff. I wouldn't let him keep you from staying there as he is not there normally but just know that his demeanor isn't the best. We have 4 dogs and they were very welcomed by everyone. The pool is nice although they do sell memberships to it for outside folks to use which means there can be a lot of people there on a holiday or very warm day. All in all, it was a pleasant experience and we would definitely stay there again if need be.

We stayed in site 6 on May 18, 2019. It was a gravel, back in site and backed up to the lake. It was fairly sloped towards the lake. We had a pop up with a 16 foot box but if you had a larger camper you might need blocs for your back stabilizers. The water pressure was quite high (70 psi) according to the worker at the campground so make sure to have a water pressure regulator. The pool looked great, but it closes really early at 8 o’clock which seems too early for the summer when it’s hot and light way past that. We didn’t get a chance to get in the pool as we get back to the campground about 8:15 and had to leave early the next day. The showers were great and clean. There were 9 of them, each in its own lockable room with a sink and toilet. There was also a laundry in the shower building. Three washers and dryers. We paid $40 for a one night stay with full hook ups and had no discounts applied. I would have given it a 5 but only gave it a 4 because of the early pool closing.

We usually visit this park year round. In the summer, the pool is the best in the area. The beach makes great fishing, and there's a nice playground for the little ones. The fort itself is a great learning experience for kids and adults!

I stayed here for two night and enjoyed my time. RV spots are a little close to your neighbor but it was quiet and peaceful. This is a great spot if you don't mind not having a network connection or Wi-Fi. Spot comes with an electrical hook-up, water, fire pit, and a picnic table. There are also bathrooms and showers and outdoor trash cans to throw away your garbage. I highly recommend this campsite. I had a great time.

TravelerWe enjoyed our stay at Camp Nelson RV Park. It's a smaller(ish) park with quite a few permanent sites. A lot of the permanent sites are older campers in need of some TLC.
The campground has a very nice pool and is very quiet. A bit tight for larger rigs (ours is a 40' DP). The owner is very friendly and has several younger folks working there that are very friendly and accommodating.
There was a slight mix-up with our site when we arrived, but the young lady that was guiding us returned to the office and found us a very nice alternative site for the duration of our stay. They have a small campground store at the office that is well supplied with the necessities. Off the beaten path, quiet, and friendly....what more could you ask for???
LegendWe would stay here again especially for the price. The RV Park standard spots are basic with a table, 15ft between you and your neighbor, and a fire pit. Very crowded on the weekends but about 70% full during the week. They have good AT&T and TMobile signal.
Staff is very nice and helpful. They do collect packages in the office, answer phones, communicate well.
Leveling of the spots is decent, there are clearly some spots where RVers struggle and hang wheels off the ground.
The property has a fishing pond, swimming pool, dog waste station, inflatable playground, blob, community area, basketball, shower houses, restrooms, and laundry.
The standard lots are gravel and basic, the premium spots are much longer with smaller yards and have pull through access.
The biggest downside we saw with this park is that there aren’t very many standard sites available to big RVs. We have to park our truck sideways and not on the grass - this is an issue because as we witnessed the second day an incoming rig hit one of the trucks parked in the street. They have a few spaces but these are occupied by people with tiny vehicles that think they need to park their tiny vehicle in the middle of the space for a dually.
There are a lot of people staying here longer term for work and such. Many have more than one vehicle which takes up the parking for others.
The grass not being touched is a hot topic here. We were told the soil is clay so once it dies they have difficulty getting it to grow again- so no mats and no parking in the grass.

TravelerThis campground is right off 75, but you can’t hear or see the interstate. 260 sites, so large, but well laid out. Two large bathhouses, camp store, two playgrounds, basketball court, huge pool (real deep end). Horse park is connected, which you can go watch events, pond for fishing, museum, another playground and horses you can pay to ride. Sites are really level, should not need much to get level. Most sites have shade, lots of big trees. No full hookup, but water and 20/30/50. It can be busy, especially on weekends. Lots of golf carts, which is my only thing I do not like. Not real safe for kids to ride bikes on weekends. Stay here often.
