Horseman's Camp at Versailles State Park offers direct access to equestrian camping within the larger 5,988-acre park setting. Located approximately 47 miles from Carrollton, this specialized camping area features electric hookups with both 50-amp and 30-amp service for equestrian campers. Water hookups and a sanitary dump station provide essential services for those traveling with horses and trailers. The campground operates on a reservation system, enabling riders to secure spots in advance before arriving with their animals. Campsites accommodate both horses and camping equipment, with ample space for horse trailers.

The bridle trail system at Versailles State Park provides extensive riding opportunities with multiple loop options connecting directly to the horse camp. Trails wind through varied terrain including wooded areas and open fields, allowing for rides of different lengths and difficulty levels. Equestrians should note that while the park maintains dedicated horse trails, no permanent horse corrals are present at the campsites themselves, so portable corrals or highline systems are recommended for overnight stays. Trail conditions can vary significantly with weather, particularly after heavy rains when some sections may become muddy or temporarily closed. Most trails are well-maintained and clearly marked, making navigation straightforward even for first-time visitors to the park. The campground's proximity to both trail access points and water sources makes it convenient for riders planning full-day excursions.

      Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground

      Quiet, bathrooms lacking.

We had a pretty decent time at Taylorsville Lake. The spots were spacious, and very nice picnic tables. We did a trail which was nice and went down to a boat ramp to see the lake. You can also rent boats there as well. The bathrooms in my opinion needed a major cleaning. They were nice just not very clean. We most likely won’t visit here again but was nice to hit a Kentucky campground. I have found that camping in Kentucky is much cheaper than in Indiana. Definitely worth a checkout.

      A.J. Jolly Park & Campground

      AJ Jolly campground

Expensive for what it has to offer. At 48.00 bucks a night yes they do have WIFI in the RV section. They do have concrete pads. It’s a shame they are worthless they are to small to park the average RV on an are on the wrong side of most rigs unless you pull in 1/2 the sites the electric is on the wrong side. The sites are gravel and not level the rest rooms are new and nice. The horse stalks are very nice. If you have a large horse trailer type camper your screwed the sites are small so that only leaves you with the RV sites that are a few 100 feet away from the stables If you want to walk threw the drainage ditch add about 300 ft if you don’t want to walk threw the muck. It’s a shame when they paved the entry road they didn’t spend a little more. “Grant money “ or tax money an do it properly. The main play ground is extremely nice. About 1/3 Mile walk. They do have a small playground in the rv section. For horses again they have a nice setup for big RVs it Sux they have a dump station. Situated in between the entry road to the Fkatwood rv section and equestrian area The main lake is nice you can rent kayaks canoes. Or use your own boat. The boat ramp is nice the other end of the lake at the flat wood rv section. Is t really a lake it’s a back water shallow mud hole depending on the time of the year. Mosquitoes the size of jet fighters. Will rather eat you alive or carry you off. “Lol sorry could t resist “ it gets bad the park is clean and well maintained Except for the camp sites

      Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground

      Peaceful, horse and fisherman friendly

Felt like we were the only people without a horse or a fishing pole! Great water for kayaking and beautiful sunsets.

Lots of raccoons in the area, so make sure your food is secure. Some of the sites are equestrian only, but they may give leeway. We reserved our primitive site ahead of time.

      Good weekend trip from Louisville.

      Clifty falls state park

The sites suck not level the shower is new but sucks push. It to die 25 seconds of water that’s like being pissed on the electric situation is poor 30 amp old not maintained the park was put in about 1919 the trails use to be awesome. Now the use to be well groomed trails that were bordered by hand built stone walls have been replaced by half assed wooden decks with steps that were built by Hellen Keller “ridiculous “ They have a 9.00 entry fee on top of the camping fee they cut the grass every day we were there Turing the park into a scalped dust bowel. Again “ridiculous “ they had a few sites that we’re supposed to be persons with disabilities friendly. Their is No sell service. Every one was wondering around looking for service. “ I though that was funny” No WiFi That didn’t bother us. But several folks around us were miffed camp store. Was a joke and was only open maybe Friday Saturday and Sunday. Possibly Maybe. “What ever that means “ the dump station. Is a cluster F#%*¥ was a tight fit for the 3 campers in front of us. Who had 28 ft to 35 ft campers. Just a dirt pull off close to trees with a tight turn to exit. Only one side could be used at a time. Or you would block the campground Exit. So not very well planned out

      Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground

      Great campground!

We stopped at this campground for two nights on our way down to Tennessee for the eclipse. Most of the sites were really big, and there was plenty of space and trees in between. We stayed at site P02, but I don't recommend that specific site. It was probably the worst site in the primitive camp, but I reserved it online in advance. It was far from flat, and the space provided for the picnic table was pretty much unusable. Just about every other site there looked amazing though. The primitive camp was close to the equestrian camp, and between to two campgrounds, there were only 25 sites. These 25 campsites share a bathhouse, which was very clean and quiet. This park also has an RV campground with 45 sites, but we never step foot in that part of the park.

Camp in comfort no matter your style

This campground has much to offer. Tent/RV spaces galore, horse sites, and primitive. Two playgrounds, heated and clean bathrooms. Access to lots of trails and activities. I will say that the two primitive sites closest to the bath house are a bit wonky but totally useable but not for large tents.

First time we’ve been to the park since they added the “premium sites” what a joke. It’s terrible road it ungraded sites are in level the approach to the sites are terrible it was t planes out very well not well maintained. It would make a better off road park that a premium RV site. When we arrived you have to make a u turn because the ranger station you sign in it on the other side of the actual “premium sites “. The road that use to go back to the equestrian sight is no longer used. No idea why. Probably ooor planning an construction again Water hook ups are on the opposite side of electrical on several sites. They do have nice picnic tables. A fire ring. And a charcoal grill the camp grounds use to be well maintained the staff use to be helpful and friendly. Not so much now. The parks department need to do some work before I would recommend this place to anyone with a trailer or Motorhome been to worse but not much. Tent camping is better suited for this park

Variable site conditions: Campsite quality and layout can differ significantly within the same campground. Jeffrey D. cautions about A.J. Jolly: "So most of the sites are large enough for 30 and larger RVs but were designed by someone who was clueless."

Seasonal availability: Deam Lake State Recreation Area offers year-round camping but with limited amenities in winter. Joshua W. notes, "Being the first weekend in April, the water wasn't turned on so there were no modern restrooms/shower houses available."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: Choosing the right site is critical for larger vehicles. Tom J. from Deam Lake advises, "Some can be short and a bit uneven, so be prepared."

Hookup availability: Electric and water connections vary between campgrounds and loops. Burns G. notes about Versailles, "We had a nice level, shaded campground. Some sites are not level at all. So be sure to read up on the site you want before you book it."

Dump station access: Plan for potential lines when leaving on busy weekends. Jessie W. cautions about Versailles, "There is only one dump station for the three campgrounds so there can be quite the line when trying to get out of there on a Sunday afternoon."
