We have a quite rural campground just off the beaten path. Construction started this week (9/05/23), with 9 completed camp sites with full hookup by the 15th. There are primitive sites available. There is a bar and grill on site that is open Thursday through Sunday, laundry, and liquor store.
Pets are welcome. We do have a few sites for those who are traveling with horses. Sorry, no covered pens at this time.
Hunter Cove Park is located on the eastern end of Harlan County Lake near Republican City, Nebraska. The 13,000-acre Harlan County Lake is the second largest lake in Nebraska. The lake and surrounding land hold great appeal for sportsmen, birders, naturalists or anyone wanting to just get away.

Located in south central Nebraska, lands surrounding Harlan County Lake are primarily mixed grass prairie land. The campground is mostly forested, offering ample shade during the warmth of summer. The Republican River Valley was once occupied by one of the greatest concentrations of buffalo on the Great Plains and was a favored hunting ground for the Pawnee, Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapaho Indian tribes.

Great little campground in the corner of a city park. Flat, surrounded by trees. On a disc golf course with a full children’s playground nearby. Amenities were near full service for RVs. Bathrooms needed cleaning, but were well stocked. I didn’t try the showers. I had some minor obstruction issues with Starlink, but I’d rather have the trees than the perfect connection. No reservations, so it is first come first serve. Also didn’t appear to have any time limits. I loved the envelope/dropbox check in/payment system.
Stayed one night in a tent. Was able to find a site tucked in the trees that felt separate from the other campsites and it was perfect! Had a range of sites from primitive (picnic table and fire ring) to full hook up. Huge, busy campground but not overwhelming—there’s enough space to accommodate. Verizon works great.
Nice native buffalograss for tent camping and you may be the only tent camper in the park haha. If using the “non-specific primitive” sites, you’ll need to drive to access the dumpster, bathrooms/shower, and water. The Lakeview primitive sites had morning sun and were shaded in the afternoon/evening.
I've been here twice now. Once in July and now at the very end of Oct. Better in Oct. No ticks or bugs and frankly of all the camping locations, there is a number of different choices, I had my section to myself. This place has swimming, a small hike, your choice of camping location, a frisbee golf course and miles one could hike or bike. I think it is kind of a jewel in the Kansas system.
It is small! There are about 10 sites, 9 of which where taken buy local workers. We took a chance and grabbed the 1 spot left. The sites are very small but had level cement pads, great water pressure and what looked to be new electrical source. Even during a thunderstorm the lights flickered but did not go out. There is also a dump station by the frisbee golf. It's not glamorous but at $15 dollars on a hot summer evening it fit the bill.
This site is on a nice grassy area with trees and has hookups but that is a bout it. This is a small town where everyone waves to you. There is a nice community pool in town, one cafe and two restaurants. Our truck broke down here and we had to get a new transmission, so we were stuck here for a few days. We were the only campers the entire time.
This is our new go-to place. The spots are spacious and the view is beautiful. It’s also a bonus it offers WiFi.
This place is an incredible continuously working Ranch since 1884. It is also the site of the first recorded Buffalo Soldier conflict out of Fort Hays (25 miles away). So history? Check! The views both day and night? Stunning! Our hosts? The best part of our stay. They were extremely accommodating and welcoming. We will be back. Soon! And I live in Detroit…
Excellent for large RV’s. Pull thru sites with full hookups and overlooking Norton reservoir
Warn showers, wonderful wildlife viewing, and full hookups. Quiet campground. Near the world's largest ball of twine! 😁
People were very friendly lake views were awesome and the campground was pretty clean.
Bathrooms need work or at least someone that cleans them at least daily. The park is nice but the bathrooms are embarrassing 26 dollars a night
I grew up here, stopped going when it became a party haven filled with drama, recently gave it a second chance and could not be happier I did so. It has really been cleaned up in all aspects. I WILL RETURN 🙂
Camping for anyone arriving at anytime. Don’t expect the best when arriving late, but most of you will have reservations, right? Then you will have the best. (Pause; Coyotes calling) this place has everything for any State Park you could ask. Expansive open grasslands a lake full of fish and fowl. Turkeys and whitetail deer and the coyotes call in the distance. A photographer could get lost in the pure wilderness available in the prairie. I’ve visited here during every season. The heat and bugs of mid July to the frozen autumn morings, always beautiful and teaming with wildlife. A great place to stay no matter your style. Just please be quiet, Mother Nature is listening.
We had a whole area of this campground to ourselves during the week in April. It had what seemed like a hundred campsites, some with power and some without. We did not have water at our site but there was electricity. IT was quiet and it's a lovely lake and the campground is very well kept.
Excellent lake and open country! Big hunting fields to run dogs in. Good WiFi, cell service and water hooks ups in March! Looks like there is year around camping. They have prime site with fire pits, grills, concrete pad, tie down chains for wind. Bath house was being updated so no idea the condition. Pheasant can be heard in morning and evening. Lake is huge! Lots of different camping options around. Playground for kids at Kanza campground
Hill Top Campground is a nice level open campground, appear to be fairly new. Great spot for the RV set as all sites have electric and water hook ups as well as picnic tables and metal fire rings. Campground sits on a high spot in the State Park and overlooks the lake. Sites are very large and nicely spread apart, but are in the open. The big draw back to this campground in Webster State Park is the lack of a restroom. You will need to go to the near by Old Marina Campground a 1/4 mile away for restroom and showers. Old Marina also has a playground. An R/V dump and dumpster is located between Hill Top and Old Marina Campground. Boat launch is just down the road. All sites can be reserved.
Nice place to pull off. RV spot are mostly level. No WiFi or laundry.
Lake View Campground is a small campground right along the shore of the Webster Reservoir. This campground has ten sites with water and electrical hook ups, plus an additional 7 or 8 primitive sites. A couple of the primitive sites are along the shore, but most are at the edge of a large grass area. Their is an vault toilet at the entrance to the campground, a bit of a walk from the primitive campsites. A large shelter is also available at the site. A shower house is located at a day use area just past the campground as well as an archery range just past that. All sites have picnic tables and metal fire rings
We stayed in Prairie Dog State Park for one night on our way back home from Colorado and were pleasantly surprised with what a nice park this was. We stayed in a primitive site. The sites were spacious and had a wonderful shelter! The vault toilet, however didnt look like it had been swept in awhile as it had a LOT of bug carcasses. But otherwise a nice place to stay. Something for everyone, tents, RVs, campers. Beautiful views!
The only thing going for this location is that you will probably have it all to your self. There is a sign on the highway going over the dam directing you where to turn. The campground has not been maintained but there is a pit toilet. There are no picnic tables, fire rings, etc. The site would be great during hunting season. The campground is covered with mature trees and needs to be bush hogged. Good luck.
This is a great city campground, with a grocery store two blocks away but the flies were horrendous! Houseflies were very aggressive. Other gnats, of unknown origin were prevalent after the houseflies went to bed. We stayed two nights, over a weekend, the park is wonderful with a great walking path. When we were here the wind was in the 30 to 40 mph range so we couldn't have our awning out and made it hard to keep the Blackstone up to temp. Oh well, that's to be expected in these parts! The shady sites are taken by seasonal campers so our site, #4, was out in the open. The cable TV does not work, the city and cable company couldn't reach an agreement apparently. Nice little town, great grocery store close by. WiFi worked great, as did Verizon.

FCFS. May– Sep. 24 sites Archery range. Toilets, flush. Showers. Water sites.
Picnic table. Mature trees. Swim beach(rocky). Playground Water. Trash. Fire ring. Boat ramp
This campground is a bit of a third choice unless you want to practice archery. The archery range is the best thing about this campground making me wish I had my bow.
The campground is small, with small sites, no electric. It has a very sad swim beach which is covered in gravel. Another pro would be the fact that it is on the lake and would be less crowded.
When you turn off the main highway there is a liquor store and just down from that is a bait shop where I would guess you could pick up some supplies. There is a market in Alma, Nebraska. Make sure you purchase your supplies before arriving.
Notice to all that bring watercraft. All watercraft pose a threat of AIS Aquatic Invasive Species to the waterways in Nebraska and waterways in other states. Watercraft is the primary source of AIS they must be prepared with an accepted means of ensuring no AIS will enter local waterways. This is a beautiful campground. The site is flat and open. Trees are scattered among the many campsites. The sites are small but well maintained. A bonus was a washer and dryer located in both the men's and women's bath/toilet facility. That facility was very clean.

This camp is located below the dam on a gravel road. Road is wash board and I am sure that on weekends ATV will abound. There is an ATV staging area just down the road. This will be a great location for hunting camps during the fall.
The campground is located just off Corp Road A next to the dam.
This area offers any fisherman a great opportunity to catch a great selection of walleye, wipers, white bass, northern pike and channel catfish fish species. The hunter will also gather an abundance of game animals to include pheasant, quail, prairie chicken, white-tailed and mule deer, turkey, waterfowl, rabbit and squirrel. The lake offers a variety of hiking trails of varying length and style, as well as one equestrian trail a short drive away. An off-road vehicle trail is located in nearby Republican City. Don't Move Firewood: Protect your forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. Mature tress giving most areas nice shade. There are several water sites and even the sites that are not on the water you will still have a view of the water. Harlan County Lake is set in a very rural area. Roads are what I would consider secondary. Rather narrow, especially if you meet a vehicle pulling a boat and you are in an RV so be prepared. Harlan County Lake is set in the rolling plains of south central Nebraska where farming is very important to Nebraska and to the United States. The Republican River begins in eastern Colorado and flows 453 miles through the states of Nebraska and Kansas. Harlan County Lake is the second largest lake in Nebraska and provides year round recreation such as fishing, hunting, and all types of watersports. A claim to fame for Republican City is that it is the "Only" town by this name in the world. Republican City has a population of less than 200 people. It was founded in 1871. The Republican River supplies the lake. Republican City was devastated by "the big flood of 1935" and due to the flood the Corp of Engineers(COE) designed a dam to cross the valley. The town had to be moved to higher ground. The town was moved to higher ground in 1951-52. Homes were loaded onto trucks and placed on foundations already constructed. French traders in the late 1700's named the indigenous people along the river the Republican Pawnee in the mistaken belief that they had a republic type of government. Everything in the area was so named because of that misnomer. Harlan County and an additional almost 18,000 acres of land that surround the lake is managed by the COE. There are six parks which provides the area with a plethor of recreation campsites. This is our second visit to this location and I have an update on our stay. Major thing for us is that we have not encountered the dreaded blood thirty skeeters. We did have a major storm last night but campground held up rather well. Hunter Cove is a large, well kept park and all facilities are clean with no flies or at least very few. The park is blessed with a lot of mature tress giving most sites a nice shade. There are several water sites and even the sites that are not on the water you will still have a view of the water. Pad are gravel or grass but hard packed. Hunter Cove is set in a very rural area. Roads are what I would consider secondary. Rather narrow, especially if you meet a vehicle pulling a boat and you are in an RV so be prepared.

If you have a reservation and the camp host is not on duty you will find your spot and they have place a tag with your name and dates of arrival. Sites are well marked and well maintained. There are sections for tent campers and many are water sites. Enjoy bird watching, fishing, hiking, fishing and other water activities.
