Cozy cabin cured my camping craving!

The adorable cabin fulfilled my tiny home dreams and camping craving! The cozy cabin had a queen bed, twin bunks and a sofa that made out to a full size sleeper. Kitchen included a fridge, sink and single cup coffee maker. Coffee k cups were provided in a few different varieties as well as sugar and creamer packs. Bathroom had tub/shower, clothesline to dry swim suits or hand-washed clothes, toilet, sand sink vanity. Bedding and towels were provided and were crisp, clean white. WiFi was a bonus and although it wasn’t the fastest it was very useful when looking up nearby activities. Our cabin had a grill, an outdoor table with four chairs, a swing and a fire pit which we enjoyed our last night there. Staff was friendly and helpful. There were laundry facilities within the park and lots of activities but we didn’t take advantage of any of that during our brief stay. Overall, we were very pleased and would gladly stay again!

Roughing it by a creek and a pioneer village

Basic car tent camping at several spots along a creek wIth picnic tables and fire rings (no hookups, portolet toilets, no showers.) There is a rustic scout cabin/group lodge reservable for scout, etc. groups. The park features a pioneer village with log cabins, including a blacksmith forge, etc. that have been moved to the site.

Love this campground for a weekend rendezvous!

Winton Woods campground has spacious paved RV spaces with full hook-ups, fire ring, and picnic table. They also have cabin and tent camping. The location is located on the lake with access to put in a kayak or canoe. The bathrooms are clean, with private combined shower/dressing stalls. There is a playground for children, and a camp store that sells firewood and supplies. I love the tall pines on the property. They made me feel like I was out west. The campground is also near paved and unpaved trails in the park that surround more of the lake which allows for walking/running/hiking and bicycling, fishing, small craft boating, with small craft boat rentals available at the marina. The park also allows for horseback riding, and a small water park for children in the summer.

    Winton Woods Campground

Great county park in a beautiful setting!

This is a great county park! It has a nice “campground” feel set in a large pine trees and wide sites but has 50-amp full hook-up sites. The campground is set in Winton Woods County Park which is about 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati.

There are 123 campsites including RV sites, tent pads, and camping cabins. Most RV sites are back-in but there are 12 pull-thru sites. There is a myriad of sites here from 50-amp full hook-up with paved pads and patios to 30-amp gravel sites. Sites have fire pits, picnic tables. Campsites in the front section (1F – 25F and 1R – 12R) are big rig-friendly with paved roads wide enough to easily maneuver. All utilities worked accordingly and were well-placed in the site. Our 4G Verizon phone got good reception and we were able to get plenty of antenna television channels. The online reservation system is easy to use and gives you an array of sites/cabins to choose from. Be aware that lots of people use this park on the weekends so it can get quiet busy.

There are lots of amenities at this park. Within walking distance of the campground is Winton Woods Lake which has a harbor with boathouse, snack bar, boat rentals and playgrounds. There are miles of paved and rustic hiking trails. There is a camp store, dump station, laundry, restrooms/shower house, boat/kayak launch, and fishing access. Located in the park is a golf course and horseback riding center.

You are within a few miles of everything … grocery, gas/diesel, restaurants, and plenty of shopping. The park is close to I-275 and I-75 making for easy access to major interstates. One place you should not miss is Jungle Jims international grocery and market. This totally eclectic, sprawling "grocery store" has so much to offer. They pride themselves on providing unique foods from all over the world. I could spend hours in this store perusing the isles of which are sectioned off into country and region. There are entire sections on Indian foods, wines, cheeses that you have never heard of, and tanks with live fish ready for the filleting. Also within close proximity is Greaters -one of the country's best ice cream shops (according to Food and Wine). Just down the street is a new person favorite sandwich shop called Izzy's which is famous for their corned beef and delicious potato pancakes.

Loved this park because you have a very nice campsite with 50-amp full hook-up site with lots to do in the area. Our site was level and the roads were easy to navigate in our motorhome. The paved trail around the lake was great for walking/jogging and perfect for launching our kayaks.

We would definitely stay here again.

    Dayton KOA Holiday

Beautiful setting, lots of trees and a steam that runs through it.

We stayed in a small cabin with a swing on the porch but there are many lodging choices. A stream ran behind the cabin. It has a pool and lots of kids activities. Gravel roads aren’t great for small kids learning to ride bikes but ok for older kids and adults.

    Dayton KOA Holiday

    Nice KOA

A nice KOA, with fire pit areas and picnic areas. Each state has a picnic table and the gravel site that we had was level. There is a group yurt for rent a nice little store, and quite a few cabins as well as gazebos and other gathering areas. Wi-fi is horrible even with a booster and sketchy over the air channels.

    Really Well Done

There are cabins, campsites in trees, campsites that aren’t. There’s a nice Mixture of available sites. All the employees are very nice and helpful. They really work hard to maintain the site. The pool is nice. There is a nice play area for kids. They have a short path in the woods which is a nice little loop. Great location with lots to do!

Nice quiet spot for a few nights out.

This is a nice county park that is being upgraded.  There is a fairly new playground near the camping areas, a new pit toilet building, and a bridge leading to where a new trail system is being created.  There are a mix of Electric and non electric sites.  I think 9 non-electric and 7 electric sites.

Fire rings and picnic tables at every site.  We were able to fit our Escapod (tear drop) camper in a non-electric site.

I think there is more coming in redevelopment of this county park, so it shoudl keep getting better!

Guide to Richmond

Cabin options near Richmond, Indiana range from rustic to modern accommodations across multiple campgrounds. These rentals typically sit within established camping areas offering recreational activities like fishing, hiking, and swimming. The region experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F, making cabin camping popular from April through October.

What to do

Water activities at Natural Springs Resort: The spring-fed quarry provides clear water for swimming and boating. As one camper noted, "This camp ground has a beautiful spring fed quarry with clean and clear water. Easy going fishing spots a pool, weekend activities and even a small camp store with grill/ice cream inside." Scuba diving is also available at the quarry.

Fishing at Whitewater Memorial State Park: Access points to both Whitewater and Brookville lakes make this location popular for anglers. A visitor mentioned, "Whitewater Memorial State Park is located close to Liberty Indiana and is our favorite between the two major parks on Brookville Lake. It has water access to both Brookville and Whitewater lakes."

Disc golf at Cornerstone Campground: The campground maintains a disc golf course among its recreational amenities. According to a recent visitor, "Totally delightful, some full timers and part timers, many parks and benches to sit on, nice disk golf course. Showers bathroom game room and general store."

What campers like

Cabin accessibility: Many campers appreciate having cabins as an option when tent camping isn't practical. One camper at Richmond KOA noted, "Great phone, then we get there. Not super friendly to me in office but we are taken to our site and it is not my favorite. The gentleman who has shuttled us to the site goes back to the office and finds us something better suited to our needs — more private and quiet."

Family-friendly environment at Kamp Modoc: The campground offers numerous activities for children. A reviewer shared, "We went here Memorial Day weekend and had a great time even though it was chilly and rainy. The pond was great with the inflatables and water toys available for use. The camp store is large and offers food. There were many activities put on by the campground."

Swimming options: Most cabin rentals near Richmond provide swimming facilities, from lakes to pools. At Fireside Resort, a visitor reported, "My family and I have a blast every time we go there... The owners Jean and her husband make you feel like family. They have plenty of fun activities for all ages to enjoy."

What you should know

Site spacing varies significantly: Some campgrounds offer more privacy than others. At Dayton KOA Holiday, a visitor observed, "We stayed in a small cabin with a swing on the porch but there are many lodging choices. A stream ran behind the cabin. It has a pool and lots of kids activities."

Cabin furnishings: Bring bedding supplies unless specifically told otherwise. A camper at Richmond KOA explained, "Great pool! Super clean and refreshing. Covid respectful. We did not try their cute mini-golf but I heard it is inexpensive and fun. Paddleboats, fishing, good for tykes but plenty of seniors as well."

Availability challenges: Most cabin rentals book quickly, especially during summer. Natural Springs Resort visitors should note, "If I lived closer, I would get a permanent site here. The only down fall I've had is, the staff in the kitchen area are very rude. Our pizza wasn't all the way cooked, we took it back in and they were not shy to make comments right in front of us."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several cabin rental locations offer playground equipment for children. A Fireside Resort guest commented, "Nice quite campground. Lots of permanent campers. But room for weekend campers also. Hiking and wooded paths. With small pond out front."

Swimming safety: Most water areas don't have lifeguards on duty. Whitewater Memorial State Park campers mention, "This is a great place to swim, very quiet. There are plenty of places for picnics and a nice campground."

Activity planning: Check campground schedules for organized events before arrival. At Cornerstone Campground, visitors noted, "Beautiful campground. Great for all kinds of camping from primitive to full hook up. Tons of stuff for kids to do. Everyone was friendly. Facilities were well kept and very clean."

Tips from RVers

Site selection at Hannon's Camp America: Choose sites away from festival areas if seeking quiet. One visitor advised, "This camp ground is awesome. Lots of space if you camp when they dont have festivals running. The music festivals are always fun!"

Utility hookups: Confirm which utilities are available at cabin sites if bringing an additional RV. At Natural Springs Resort, a camper explained, "Full service campground. 30, 50 am full hook ups. Water and electric only hook ups, primitive RV and tent sites. Some sites are shaded, most of them seem to be year round rented."

Noise considerations: Some campgrounds near highways experience road noise. Richmond KOA receives mixed reviews, with one camper noting, "Nice people and beautiful sites. It's really close to the highway and LOUD! I like to hear nature when I came to destress not semis all night long."
