Draft Kings at Casino Queen RV Park

    Clean, Secure Overnight Park

Very clean and secure overnight park just outside of STL. Phenomenal views of downtown and the arch, and fairly easy access to I-55/64/70. Facilities lacked some amenities (only vending machines, convenience store has shut down), but clean, paved, level sites with full hookups throughout.

    Cahokia RV Parque

    Great Campground!

We had a great experience in the 4 nights we spent here. The grounds, pool, laundry, and bathrooms were all in excellent repair and clean. The park was quiet, but very family friendly. The spots are roomy enough, given that you’re situated less than 15 miles from downtown St. Louis. The picnic tables and fire rings are nice additions and the lots appear to be level (ours was.) We didn’t have any trouble backing our 38 ft travel trailer in either. Do NOT miss the BBQ place in the parking lot... fantastic food and a 10% discount for park customers.

Nice close park to St. Louis

Pet-friendly, full hookups, space for our larger rig and parking around for extra vehicle. Laundry and propane on site. Spaces were a little close together, but minutes from downtown St. Louis, and staff was friendly and accommodating. Also, fantastic restaurant right on site -- Sawmill BBQ!

    Rend Lake Gun Creek Campground

Many lakeside sites, extra long drives for boat trailers, quiet and scenic

Rend Lake is a large COE recreation area with 4 campgrounds, some with full hook ups for $28 a night, two dams, 2 beaches, several boat launches, a marina, golf course and a restaurant.  Not all facilities were open when we visited in March.  Hiking and biking trails and close to town for gas and bait.  Each site has a stone picnic table and fire ring.  Showers, bathrooms and  playgrounds in multiple places and convenient locations.  Some sites do have steep grade, originally booked Bluejay 48 and moved.

    Cahokia RV Parque

Very nice park near downtown St. Louis

Cahokia RV Parque is a nice RV park only 15 minutes from downtown St. Louis. We stayed two nights and really enjoyed the St. Louis area. I compared the park to two others near St. Louis on the Illinois side and found this one to be the most pleasant. Most of the sites are sunny, but some have shade. The park streets are asphalt, but the sites are gravel. The park is quiet. Gave it 4 stars for cleanliness due to the gravel sites. Otherwise, the park was clean.

Stayed in campsite#34 which has plenty of shade. It was a gravel back-in site with enough parking for my TT and truck with plenty of grass on either side. The site included: picnic table on a concrete patio, fire ring, and small trees. Utilities were located closer to the front of the site: 20A/30A/50A electric water, sewer. Site was pretty level. Awning faced east so we didnt get the evening sun shining underneath, but a tree prevented me from opening the awning. It didnt matter because there was plenty of shade in the evening, but not much in the middle of the day. Nearest neighbor was close.

AT&T had 2 bars of 5G and Verizon 3 bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest 49.7 Mbps down, 3.35 Mbps up. Could not access the WiFi even though the password was on the info sheet.

Would stay here again.  We camped at Cahokia RV Parque in a Travel Trailer.

    Timber Trails Campground

    Wonderful layover and family friendly

Kaskaskia Jerry F. Costello Lock and Dam (formerly the Kaskaskia Lock and Dam

    Hidden gem

This is a very clean campground with electric only hook-up. It had nice big concrete pads, a large picnic table and large fire pit/grill at each site. Water was available close to the restrooms and is accessible to fill campers. Parking area at each site could accommodate two vehicles. The capsites were located next to the Kaskaskia River. There is a recreation area with a large pavilion and fishing is accessible from here. By the camping area there is a hiking trail through the woods that ends at the confluence of the Kaskaskia and Mississippi Rivers. This trail is paved for walking, bicycles and wheelchairs. There is also a boat ramp close to campsites.

Guide to Nashville

Most campgrounds remain open year-round with summer temperatures typically reaching 85-90°F, while spring and fall offer milder camping conditions in the 60-75°F range. What to do

Fishing opportunities: Washington County State Recreation Area offers a 248-acre lake stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish. "I have literally spent weeks here. I used to come out here alone for a week to prepare for big college exams. Such a peaceful atmosphere," notes a camper at Coles Creek Recreation Area.

Stargazing: The rural setting provides excellent dark sky viewing with minimal light pollution. "The sky was real dark, great for picking out constellations. We listened to Whip-por-will calls around the campfire," reports a visitor to Washington County State Recreation Area.

Trail walking: Multiple campgrounds offer walking paths around lakes and through wooded areas. "There are a lot of good trails and fishing at the spillway," mentions a camper at Dam West Spillway, while another visitor notes the "paved bike paths with views of the lake."

What campers like

Clean facilities: The restrooms and shower facilities receive consistent praise. "Bathroom and shower facilities are FABULOUS, and super clean. They smell like the laundry facilities as well, so great all around there," says a camper at Dam West Spillway.

Spacious sites: Most campsites offer ample room between neighbors. "Big sites. Been coming here since the trees were just saplings. For us it is a little farther drive but a pretty campground," notes a regular visitor at Coles Creek Recreation Area.

Peaceful atmosphere: The rural setting provides a quiet retreat. "Very quiet, not a lot of people. Plenty of spaces and lake was nice," mentions a visitor to Washington County State Recreation Area.

What you should know

Reservation considerations: Some campgrounds have both reservable and first-come sites. "When we tried to book online, all were taken but saw they had a few sites that were first come. Luckily, we got one of the last two," explains a camper at Dam West Spillway.

Payment methods: Cash may be required at certain locations. "Note: no cards accepted. We had to run back to the town of Nashville to get some cash from the ATM," advises a visitor to Washington County State Recreation Area.

Site leveling: Terrain varies across rv parks near Nashville, Illinois. "Sites are nice, although all sites face each other meaning you will be 5-10 feet from your neighbors if you are sitting out front," notes a visitor at Archway RV Park.

Seasonal amenities: Some facilities operate on reduced schedules. "The Concession building in the park is closing. No boat rentals, selling everything he has on the shelf," reports a recent visitor to Washington County State Recreation Area.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature play areas for children. "There is a nice playground and dog park as well as a pond at the location," mentions a visitor to Archway RV Park, while another notes Dam West Spillway has "several playgrounds."

Educational opportunities: Some campgrounds offer nature programs. "They have outdoor informational presentations about plants and animals geared toward children," points out a camper at Dam West Spillway.

Beach access: Swimming areas provide summer recreation. "Had a lake front site with beachfront access. There were several playgrounds, drivers were slow and courteous," reports a family staying at Dam West Spillway.

Tips from RVers

Big rig accommodation: Many campgrounds can handle larger RVs. "Long spots, friendly owner, easy access to hardware store across the street, coin laundry available," notes a visitor to Kaskaskia Dragon RV Park.

Hookup configurations: Check site utilities before booking. "Full-hookups with only a 50amp connection so if you are using 30 make sure you have a 50/30 adapter," advises an RVer at Archway RV Park.

Dump station access: Facilities vary between rv parks in Nashville, Illinois area. "The only thing I would change is the ONE dump station for this massive campground," mentions a camper at Coles Creek Recreation Area.

Navigation considerations: Some campgrounds can be challenging to locate. "If you put Scott FamCamp in google maps, it will take you there, BUT google maps will take you to no longer operational entry gates. Put in Commissary to get on base," advises a visitor to Scott AFB FamCamp.
