Budget-friendly options: Many campgrounds in the area provide affordable options for equestrian camping near Richfield. "Nice and quiet. $21.20 dry and I think $40 full. The fairgrounds also offers horse boarding facilities adjacent to the campground.
Clean facilities: Multiple campgrounds maintain well-kept amenities despite remote locations. "The vault toilet area was actually very clean and not stinky. What you should know
Limited shade coverage: Most campgrounds in the Richfield area feature open landscapes with minimal natural shade. "No trees, so little privacy," notes Kendra T. about Ricketts RV Camp. Summer temperatures regularly reach into the 90s, so prepare with additional shade structures or select sites carefully if visiting during peak summer months.
Stay limits enforced: Many free camping areas enforce specific stay durations. "Rickets has several pull-in (not through) RV campsites that are gravel driveways with a table and fire pit. There is OHV/Equestrian areas all around. Each night an officer from Twin Falls will verify license plates but the campground is free with a 5 night maximum stay," explains Cory S.
Water availability varies: Most dispersed camping and some established campgrounds lack reliable water sources. "This campground has toilets but no water or electricity. The toilets are clean. It's better to arrive early because it's really popular," advises Mengxuan W. about Ricketts RV Camp. Bring sufficient water supplies, especially when traveling with horses.
Tips for camping with families
Reserve early for lake access: Jerome County Fairgrounds provides an affordable base for families approximately 25 minutes from Richfield. "Clean and quiet. All paved. Water and electrical hook ups. Pull through spots. Such a great place to stop and a killer sunset from the bleachers," shares Tara B. The paved surfaces make it suitable for bikes and scooters.
Bring entertainment: Most campgrounds near Richfield offer limited on-site activities for children. "If you are looking for peace and quiet and clean this is the place. None of the fancy amenities, but impeccably kept grounds. My dog loved the grass, he was rolling in it and running through sprinklers on hot evening," shares Deborah M. about Jerome County Fairgrounds. Pack games, bikes, and other entertainment.
Consider weather timing: The area experiences significant temperature fluctuations. "Showed up late October around 6. It's quiet, just out of town and there are toilets placed I guess (didn't use) and a fire pit by my site. Didn't use either. Cold (34° last night) rainy, super windy, but felt safe and free is great," reports Brooke C. Spring and fall offer milder temperatures but can bring unpredictable conditions.
Tips from RVers
Arrive early at popular sites: Free equestrian camping areas fill quickly, particularly on weekends. "It's better to arrive early because it's really popular. Surprisingly, I could still get a 5G signal from the campsite," notes Mengxuan W. about Ricketts RV Camp. Mid-week arrivals improve your chances at securing preferred spots.
Level sites available: Many campgrounds in the area provide relatively level parking for RVs. "Each space has a picnic table and fire ring, and there are drop toilets and trash bins. All the sites look pretty level. Easy to find off the highway," reports Kendra T.
Consider fairgrounds for full hookups: Oregon Trail Campground and Twin Falls County Fairgrounds both offer full hookup options within 30 minutes of Richfield. "The RV Park is located on the east side of the fairgrounds and has 80 spaces with full hook-ups (water, sewer & 50 amp power); and 100 hook-up with (water & 30 amp power)," explains Marc G. about the fairgrounds. These established campgrounds provide more comfortable options for extended stays.
