Description
High-elevation timber of Uncompahgre National Forest above the Telluride corridor frames this dispersed area along Wild Boy Lake Road (FR 632.1B), situated near a small alpine lake ringed by peaks including Silver Mountain and Bald Mountain. About seven stone fire rings are scattered across the area — some sites nestle into the forest for shade and seclusion, while others open onto sweeping mountain views. The access track off Alta Lakes Road is genuinely rough and demands a confident driver in a capable, high-clearance vehicle; note that as of mid-2025 the road has been closed to motor vehicles for repairs, and prospective visitors should verify current status with the Ouray Ranger District before making the drive.
