FR 296 Dispersed — Routt National Forest

Description

Routt National Forest rolls into high subalpine terrain near Rabbit Ears Pass, and FR 296 cuts into this forested corridor just off US-40 with a broad spread of dispersed pullouts among the trees. Sites closest to the highway carry some road noise, but it fades considerably the farther back you go — and fire rings and generally flat ground make even the nearer spots workable for an overnight. The access road is rutted dirt that gets slick when wet; high-clearance rigs have more options deeper in, though the first several spots are reachable by most vehicles.
