Spacious and shaded
Some of these spots have a decent shade parts of the day. Decent privacy on a few spots. Maybe 10% full on a Wednesday night in September.

Nice campground right along the lake. Friendly host that had a few supplies and provided firewood. We saw a bull moose too!
Super awesome fishing out here if you know where to go. Great camping. We’ve enjoyed this area!
This campground is pretty big, but fills up fast! There are two camping loops, both include pull-in & tent only sites. Each site has a fire ring with a grate & a bear box. There is a flushable bathroom & garbage bins available on each loop. They also have a camp host for each loop where you can purchase firewood. All sites are within walking distance to the water front but none are located directly on the water. All in all, a beautiful campground with friendly hosts & people! My only complaint is the rates are $25/night plus $8 for extra cars. Just a bit pricey in my opinion!
Pros: nice Mountain View, bathrooms with flush toilets and sinks, water available for RV refills, wood available from host
Cons: lake not visible from campground (but accessible over a hill), hosts pretty much MIA when we were there, no electrical hookup which one may have expected for the cost
This campground was definitely pretty standard and pretty basic, anyone who frequently goes camping will know what to expect. Amenities were well tended to and campgrounds were clean. Gorgeous location with tons of great hiking near by including some that access RMNP. My only complaints are that there are a ton of sites, very close together and very open, not much shade, privacy, or trees of any sorts around the sites.
Great central campsite to explore the surrounding areas
Signal: 1-2 Bars LTE Verizon
Water: potable and cold, located in front of bathrooms, looked like you could thread a hose on just not super securely.
Electricity: none at site (outlet in the bathroom if you need a quick charge though)
Bathrooms: cleaned daily and flush great!
Site: Fire pit (w/ integrated grill), bear locker, picnic table, and some sites had large tent pads. The parking spaces could fit a 20ft trailer easy. Almost no shade at any of the sites.
a lot of sites were reserved but there are a few first come first serve (FCFS) sites (#49 is a FCFS site and treated us well it had a little wooded hill behind the site with plenty of shady spots to hang a hammock.
Close to RMNP, but it is about an hour and a half beautiful scenic drive to bear lake, get your timed entry passes way in advanced or get there before 5 AM.
Shadow Mountain Lake Bike trail is awesome and runs along the lake almost the whole time with many openings in the thick forest for great views of the lake. Not heavily trafficked either, I was able to run it without running into any bikers. 6m round trip and trail starts just past the dam.
Although this was a busy campground, the sites are well spaced. Clean toilets, both flush and vault. Great walks/ hikes or bike rides into the Rocky Mountains from the campground. Situated at Shadow Mountain Lake.
Green Ridge is a great little campground to stay at to enjoy everything that Grand Lake has to offer. Just a short (10 min) drive into historic Grand Lake to the north, with Granby 20 mins south.
Sites are mostly level gravel and feature a picnic table, fire ring, bear box, and tent pad. The campground hosts are very helpful! They keep the pit toilets clean and have firewood for sale for $9/bundle. 3 bars of AT&T LTE and 1 bar of T-Mobile on our hotspot. Both did OK with cell booster, although data speeds weren’t great.
The scenery is stunning! Go for a hike around Shadow Mountain Lake or rent canoes at one of the many shops in town. You won’t regret it.
My husband and I stayed here in June of 2020. We used it as our base to visit Rocky Mountain National Park. It was the perfect location for us. We visited the nearby town and went into the park several times. Cell phone usage was okay but the further from the highway the fewer bars available.
Sites: 79 non electric
Reservations: 877-444-6777 or recreation.gov
Tents, rv's and trailers
water, picnic table, fire ring/grill, tent pads, flush and pit toilets, and drinking water
You may gather firewood from the forest or purchase from camp host. There is a boat ramp and dock
The campground is nestled at the base of Shadow Mountain with the Colorado River running alongside the campground. It is such a beautiful setting with the towering Shadow Mountain watching over the campground.
The Mountain Pine beetle is destroying the forest. They are working hard to keep the dead trees cut and removed. Be very careful walking in the woods. The dead limbs and trees can kill. There is very little shade but that is great for solar. A hiker will find several hiking trails in the local area.
Directions: The campground is located in the Arapaho National Recreation Area, 12 miles northwest of Granby on US Highway 34, two miles east on County Road 66, Forest Road 274 (on Shadow Mountain Lake).

Better than when you found it
Stay safe and happy travels
We stayed here while visiting RMNP. Our campsite was great and pretty quiet, kind of tucked away from people. The pit toilets were really clean. Very close to Grand Lake for dining.
Relatively crowded campground but the sites were nicely spaced. Nice bathrooms. We overpaid for the site and the camp manager came and gave us our extra back almost immediately. Firewood for sale.
Fantastic sunrise in a lake!
Decent sized campsites. Cleanest pit toilets we had come across. Camp host/manager frequently circulating to make sure bathrooms were clean. Only improvement would be another water access point on Loop. Watch out for the mosquitoes in the summer with it being fairly close to the lake and a lot of brush and trees nearby.
Easy to find the campground and your reserved site. Easy access to Trail Ridge Road. Sites were pretty close together, and RVs were popular leading to some additional noise and light. Vault toilets, some sinks, but no showers. Gas station about 10 mins up the main road for any last minute needs.
Proximity to the water and clear skies made this campground nice for me.
Note that I stayed here July 2020: peak season was made even busier with COVID.
This is a nice spot right outside of Rock Mountain National Park. The campground is well maintained and there is plenty of space for everyone. It is right next to the reservoir, which makes for a great hike.
I had my hesitations with this site as a few mentioned the lack of privacy due to the shorter and more sporadic trees, but I was so grateful for that openness. The views are incredible from every site on the ground—hawks above, prairie dogs on the ground, beautiful mountain skyline. Even spotted a coyote in the distance. As long as you don’t mind running to the nearby bathrooms to go, you’ll find that everyone keeps to themselves on the grounds. Definitely not as private as sites I’ve had in the past, but it was worth it for the views. Not to mention the lake a few steps away. If you’re there for a couple nights, you’ll definitely want to bring a canopy for the lack of shade.
S the campgrounds around the lake were so full we drove and pitched a tent nearby for 1 of the nights. The views were nice. We made it work. It is always what ya make it. I would not return. Felt as if there was no privacy except off the campground.
Clean, well kept. But the camp spots are very close to each other and close the main road coming in. The east side of the campground’s trees have been recently burned and are regrowing. The west side has full size trees. Easily able to walk to the lake for fishing. Fishing was mediocre (tried fly fishing, casting, bait). At the time there weren’t many people in the campground, but if it was full, there wouldn’t be much privacy.
Camp hosts were very cool, we had two sites reserved for three days. Had equipment issues on the first night and had to leave. The next morning they refunded us the other nights. This was on the summer solstice. Two feet of snow!
Nice national forest campground near the water, fishing, clean flush toilet bathrooms, had water, trash, picnic tables, fire pits and bear proof containers,, stayed 2 nights in May 2018,
The pine beetle took its toll here so don’t expect shade, but you can walk to the lake and directly into RMNP.osty quiet, close to Grand Lake and the campground hosts were friendly.
Very close to the RMNP, but far enough away that you aren't bombarded with tourists. Located very near shadow mountain lake, but no sites are actually on the lake. Tent pad was a little small for out 6 person tent, but we made it work.
