Forsythe Canyon Trailhead Forest Service Road 357 Dispersed — Golden Gate Canyon

Idk who did this but luckily there is service but anything nearby is outta the way. Says need permit online access filled it all out $10 plus camping. Dispersed without wheels requires a $4 fee too

Not sure where the GPS will take you, so make sure to route yourself to the Forsythe Trailhead!

Thought the sites would be easier to get to since technically you can drive up to them, however, once you get to the trailhead lot, the dirt road is extremely uneven and hard to navigate. When I went, there was at least one car stuck on the road and another that looked like it wasn't doing so well. I would only recommend the drive-up option if you have a high-clearance car with some serious 4WD capabilities.

However the walk to the campsites from the lot isn't too bad. It's about 10min to the first site and 20min to the 2-5 sites. There are more sites but they appeared to be much further back by the looks of the map.

Thankfully though the sites aren't typically all occupied so at worst it's about a 20min walk to you find something. Sites 3-5 all have fire pits and that's it. There's a restroom at the parking lot, and that's about it as far as amenities go.

Overall it's a nice campsite with a great view

The location for this does not take you to a campsite but rather a sign that says “NO trespassing” it’s private property now but if you drive farther on the dirt road (about 5 minutes) and take a left at the sign that says 68 you will continue for 2 miles and find a trailhead with a campsite that is very nice. I parked at the trail head but continue down the road that’s there and there are designated free dispersed camping.

PS This is up a very high mountain road. I have a 91 westfalia and I do not recommend for older vehicles such as. Puts lots of wear on it going up and down that huge hill.

Nice dispersed camping if you don't mind a smaller area. Small trailhead with not a lot of parking, but still reasonable. Lots of people come out in the fall for hunting season. Also a great place for outdoor yoga! Nice if you want some peace from the accessibility of West Magnolia as its a bumpy 5 mile ride down Magnolia Rd, which isn't paved. Keep an eye out, it's easy to miss the turn onto 357!
