Great for fishing and boating but not much else

Camped there for 4 nights in spot 13. A lot of the sites are on a slope which can make it difficult for setting up tents, chairs and for using the picnic benches.

The lake is great for fishing and boating but not for swimming. We attempted but quickly got out as we discovered we were covered in a slimy, snot like substance.

There were A LOT of bugs! I go camping quite a bit but at night we got swarmed. We ended up hanging a lantern in a tree to deter them from getting us. It ranged from mosquitoes, gnats, moths and beetles.

I will say that the bathrooms were clean! No hand soap, we brought our own, but they did have hand sanitizer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What amenities and facilities are available at Grizzly Campground on Lake Davis?

Grizzly Campground provides basic facilities including picnic benches at campsites. The campground is situated on Lake Davis, offering excellent fishing and boating opportunities, though swimming is not ideal. Many sites are on sloped terrain, which is important to consider when planning your stay. While the campground provides outdoor recreation access, visitors should be prepared for a somewhat rustic experience. For complete details on water availability, restroom facilities, and other amenities, contact the Plumas National Forest directly before your visit.

Where is Grizzly Campground located and how can I find a map of the campground?

Grizzly Campground is located on the shores of Lake Davis within Plumas National Forest in Northern California. To find a map of the campground, check the Plumas National Forest official website or contact the forest service office directly. Maps are typically available at forest service offices, visitor centers, or through the USFS website. The Forest Service may also provide physical maps upon arrival or at nearby ranger stations. Given that many campsites are on slopes, as noted at site 13, a map can help you select the most level sites for your camping setup.

What do campers say about their experience at Grizzly Campground?

Campers at Grizzly Campground often note the challenging terrain, with many sites situated on slopes that can make setting up tents, chairs, and using picnic benches difficult. Site 13 and similar areas require some adaptation for comfortable camping. The campground's main attraction is its proximity to Lake Davis, which is excellent for fishing and boating activities. However, the lake isn't ideal for swimming as some visitors have found it less suitable for in-water recreation. Despite these challenges, the beautiful forest setting and outdoor recreation opportunities make it a worthwhile destination for those prepared for a more rustic camping experience.

Are there photos available to preview Grizzly Campground before visiting?

Yes, photos of Grizzly Campground are available through several sources. The official Plumas National Forest website often features campground images that showcase the sites and surrounding area. The Dyrt camping app and website may also contain user-submitted photos showing actual campsites, including views of Lake Davis and the sloped terrain that characterizes many of the camping spots. Additionally, the Recreation.gov website might offer preview images if the campground uses their reservation system. These visual resources can help you prepare for the sloped sites and better understand the campground layout before your visit.
