Best Glamping near Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, CA

This is a stunning campground. It is just a short (very steep) hike from The Wheel Meadow Grove of Giant Sequoias. It is great for large groups of students and lots of opportunities for wildlife viewing. The trail going from the campground down to the trees is a great Mtn Biking trail. Loads of turns and beautiful views. The bathrooms sometimes have black widows so be careful! But the sites are great and there are even yurts if you are interested in that.

It was a very peaceful and calm campground on the I stayed in one of the yurts. It was very clean and there is a bunkbed with two full size beds and another separate full size bed. The bathrooms were also kept very clean. I didn’t get a chance to go hiking in the area, but there are trails nearby. There is no service but it is about a 5 minute drive from a cafe/store/lodge that has Wi-Fi. I was in site 28. Sites 6-10 looked amazing for tent camping.

Relatively small campground. Camp host was nonexistent. Lots of trees in most campsites. The non yurt sites didn’t have bear lockers. Fire ring was in rough shape. Loud neighbors first night. Second had techno from group site until late. Ponderosa general store was going to be my go to for firewood but it had burned down. So foraged for wood and picked up some at the campground at trail of 100 giants. Vault toilets were clean and stocked. Water spigot scattered around campground. No cell service on Verizon or wifi. Would come back here.

Great place to stay. With clean sites and plentiful amenities, you can camp comfortably while seeing the sites that California has to offer.

Of all the places we took our kids on their first camping road trip (Grand Canyon, Yellowstone etc)it was right here in California that they found their favorite here at Kings; big trees ( and fallen giants you could walk through) cave tours, hikes, rivers .. they loved it. So much to cover its best to go to Recreation.gov and choose your camp area. Highly recommended by this family !

This is a really cool little campground near the entrance of Sequoia National Park. The sites are tent only, so no hookups or anything like that. Pretty nice sites though, a lot of space. I think there can be fire restrictions in the summer since it can get so dry, so just be aware of that. As far as places go, it wasn't too pricey. I think we paid about $20 a night. There are bathrooms with running water, and the sites have picnic tables and fire rings. Each site also has storage lockers for your food, so be sure to lock it up in order to keep the bears from getting into it.

As for stuff to do around here, you obviously have to check out the trees. Go look at General Sherman and all the other Sequoia trees. They're so amazing and honestly it humbles you a little. Also check out Moro Rock Trail. The view from the top is amazing. You'll also probably see a fair amount of wildlife while you're hiking around, so be careful of the bears. Out of all my trips to California, I've seen the most bears here in Sequoia. They are super cool creatures, just keep a respectful distance and of course don't feed them.

A party place in mid august. Lots of louder groups that were up late into the night.

Site 84 was technically approved for a trailer over 10 feet, but a serious squeeze to get our trailer and explorer to fit within the lines.

Some restrooms were closed, and the open ones were very crowded at night. No lights in the bathrooms.

Beautiful views, scenic byway and river driving in and around the campground.

We arrived Fourth of July weekend and the drive down to the campground is absolutely stunning! We stayed at site 120 which was very spacious and partially shaded. The river was a lot lower than I have seen the past few times I have been here 4 years ago. Therefore there was a lot of people playing in the river. There are flushable toilets at the campground but no electricity so bring your flashlights. This campground is located towards the end of the road and it’s a great location being close to roaring river trailhead and zumwalt meadows and roads end trail. Cedar grove is just a few minutes away where you can get some groceries or little souvenirs. The campground was extremely packed and filled with families. For campers looking for peaceful camping I do not recommend this campground. But since I have a new son whose 9 months old, I was fine with the noise. Quiet hours were respected and that’s the most important part. I loved the location of the campground as you look around you are surrounded by beauty and you’re right in the canyon!

I have been going to Kings Canyon on and off for the last 6 years with a large group of friends that are like family. We usually go between June and August depending on the water flow , the water is snow melt and in 2017 it was the coldest I had felt, took my breath away. Moraine (campsite) has quite a few spots but is very secluded because it is the furthest (or close to it) distance from the general store. There are many different hikes of all skill levels near by but you will have to drive to find that perfect little beach, sandy meadow or waterfall, whatever your interest may be on your visit. There are bear boxes in each site,well because, BEARS! Bathrooms are at each campground but pay showers are at the general store along with pay phones.

If you are looking for gorgeous views, all types of nature, and getting away from the daily hustle, this is the place.

Higher up on the bluff ( or moraine, which is a rock outcropping) this campsite is more sunny and higher elevation from the river. It has later sites which are probably more suited to larger RVs. The asphalt has been updated more recently.

There are flush toilets and water spigots spread throughout the campsites.

This camp area is the farthest from the rangers station and the general store.

Family tradition every year or twice a year if possible. The restrooms are kept clean and they always have toilet paper. The park rangers are really nice and we will continue to go. We prefer to camp by the river because the campsites are bigger and we get to hear the river all day long.

Great campground with nice and spacious sites and several trails accessible directly from the campground.

Site number 25 was a real winner. Set back from the road and very large is was great. Also close to the bathrooms without being too close...if you know what I mean.

The creek is also nice to have real close and a great place to spend an afternoon or a full day.

We also enjoyed driving down (east) to the end of the road and hiking Kanawyers Trail (aka Cedar Grove Sand Flats) to the Paradise Valley Trail (aka Mist Falls). See the photos below to see what a great view you get after gaining some elevation on this trail. We did see some very fresh bear scat and heard rumors of other hikers (of which there were many) actually seeing the bear. We did see two rattlesnakes cuddled up right along the trail.

All the campgrounds in the Cedar Grove Village are also close to the Cedar Grove Lodge which is a decent place to pick up food, ice, or other needs.

There are a lot of camping options in Sequoia and Kings Canyon, especially if you are willing to be a little further away from the big trees. This campground is in Kings Canyon, about an hour away from Grant Grove. There are about a 100 campsites with tents, campers, and RVs mixed in. Sites are first come-first served (no reservations but you need to go to the reservation hut to get a site), but fill up fast in the summer. When you go to the campground reservation hut, you will be assigned a site and the rangers may or may not remember where the RV’s are. I lucked out and my ranger was really good at getting me a site on a loop with no RV’s. With no hook ups or dump station, expect some generator noise during the day and evening. I got the usual standard speech about using the bear lockers for all foods and scented items, but also got one about water conservation. Apparently in the summer if the water levels drop too much they will close the showers and laundry at nearby Cedar Grove Village. I liked the nice trees that provide lots of shade, but you may not end up with enough properly spaced trees to hang your hammock (I did not). There is no real underbrush to provide any privacy, but at least the sites were not on top of each other. There are clean flush toilets here, but if you need to shower you will need to head into Cedar Grove Village, just down the road (there is also a small market that has pretty much everything you might need). There are several trailheads nearby with great hikes, including Roads End with the backcountry ranger station at the busy trailhead.

Wonderful campgrounds! So much to do and see! Beautiful!

Sheep Creek Campground is close to the river and a tributary of it runs very close to the North End. It is about half a mile from the General Store and ranger station.

Flush toilets and water spigots are spread throughout the campsites.

Fire rings with a grill on top, and a picnic table are included in each site.

I've camped here many times and every single time it's a great experience. There are clean restrooms, the campsites are good, and the bear boxes are large. It's only a short walk to the river and a slightly longer walk to the ranger's station and then to the lodge where there is a general store and even a place to get a burger, hot dog, or slice of pizza. Always see a lot of bears up here so be smart.

Good sized camp site with plenty of large trees to hang a hammock. I would still recommend bringing your own shade in case your site doesn't have enough coverage. Clean bathrooms (flush toilet) and an outside sink for dishes. Bear lockers are provided.

A short walk around the campsite and you can find a path by a river. It's also a short drive to some longer hikes and waterfalls. While you're there, be sure to check out the Boyden Cavern, it's a few miles from the campsite and they have daily cave tours!

The drive to the camp ground is beautiful and scenic. You will be entering the Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Park, so you have to pay the park fee when entering (or just get an America the Beautiful annual pass).

Sequoia is one of the most underrated parks. It’s is an incredible place. The moment you’re on that winding highway and see the reddish color of a sequoia tree, the feeling is unspeakable.

This Park has everything you need, from food, trails, and views. It’s is incredible to spend a weekend or a week here. I’ve been to redwood and sequoia and sequoia has won me over. The trees are not only MASSIVE in height but also around. The campground is clean and well organized. VISIT SEQUIOA!

Threse are group sites, and they are ample in space and amenities. There are four group sites available and they are currently 2018 renovating some of the sites.

Flush toilets and water spigots throughout the campsites. The road within the campsites is not very good.

We booked this campground for a family vacation it was everything we hoped for. The site could easily accommodate 20 people. Each site had 4 bear boxes which was plenty for our group. Bathrooms were kept clean. It is at the bottom of the canyon so if you want to do the activities up in Sequoia National Park it is about a 2 hr drive each way. This did not bother us as we just enjoyed the views. The campground was quiet at about 8:30 each night. We would definitely stay here again

Getting there: A long drive on windy roads behind people generally doing 10mph under the speed limit. Take your time because you sure wont be able to rush. Once inside the campground the road looks more like a lunar landscape with more potholes than pavement. Campsites: The group campsites are fairly spacious and easily fit 15 of us, they are rated to hold 20 people but that might be a bit of a squeeze. All the campsites provide 3 picnic benches, 3 bear boxes (not enough so be weary of how many coolers you have), and only one fire pit with grill grate. Trying to get 15 people around a single fire pit and still within range of the warmth was a major issue. There are shared restroom areas with full plumbing and potable water through the campsite. This campsite was also really, really far away from most of the stuff we wanted to do, I would NOT stay at this campsite again. WARNING: The rangers here are asshats. They were constantly patrolling and searching for a reason to write us a ticket (-1 star). They gave us 3 warnings the first day of our stay for BS nit picky reason (we don't want to put our shit in the bear bin when we are sitting around snacking on it you dick). The Park: Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Park were nice but everything you want to do is at least an hour drive each way on windy roads. Kind of a pain. What to do: Go out on some hikes, there are a ton of trails. Go see the giant Sequoias, either General Sherman or General Grant. Go explore some caves, they are awesome.

I came here extra early to get this site because it is a first come first serve thing. The campsite I got was great. There was restrooms fire rings and tables. At night you have to store your food in the bear box because there are bears in this area. It was 18 dollars a night

Sentinel was the only campground available for a visit to Kings Canyon and Sequoia. Be prepared for a LONG drive to get anywhere.

The campsite was amazing!!! You are nestled by the river and under beautiful big trees. The site was spacious with a picnic table, fire pit and bear box.

The restroom is dated, but it’s a flush toilet and running water, which is a gift. They do have a sink to clean dishes.

I found it to be pretty quiet. Most sites were dark shortly after sunset. A lot of people were up and out early in the morning. So many amazing hikes and walks to do within the two parks.

Absolute favorite campground, you can hear the river all day long. The site we got was really big. Restrooms are clean, the only down thing you can’t have fire during the high risk seasons for wild fires.

Wonderful mostly shaded spots next to the Kings river. Spaces next to the meadow are especially nice. Lots of bird watching opportunities. Amenities are the usual for a national park campground. There are showers, laundry, store, and food within walking distance at Cedar Grove. There is also a very small visitor center and amphitheater for ranger presentations. You also have several day hiking opportunities from the campground and even more a short walk or drive away.

We camped in a site near the restrooms and a trail. There was a small stream at the back of the site that occupied kids making fairy houses for hours. Beyond that was the river, which gave a peaceful backdrop for sleep. Plenty of shade, water spigot very convenient. Definitely coming back.
