Best Cabin Camping near Myers Flat, CA

Rustic cabins dot the redwood landscape near Myers Flat, offering overnight accommodations within the towering ancient forest. Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination provides cabin rentals with electric fireplaces that warm the space efficiently without requiring HVAC system use. Cabins typically include basic furnishings with patios that showcase views of the surrounding redwoods. Benbow KOA & Golf Course offers cabin options with access to additional resort amenities. Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Most cabins sleep between 2-4 people, though specific sleeping arrangements vary by campground. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially during summer months when tourism peaks along the Avenue of the Giants. Pet policies differ between properties—Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination allows pets with appropriate fees. Several cabin facilities remain open year-round, allowing access to the redwoods during quieter winter months. According to one visitor: "We stayed in Cabin 2 on November 23, 2021. Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities vary substantially between properties—some cabins have minimal amenities while others offer more comprehensive cooking options. On-site camp stores at locations like Giant Redwoods provide essentials such as firewood, ice, snacks, and basic grocery items. The small town of Myers Flat has limited shopping options with a small market offering basic provisions at premium prices. Visitors planning extended stays should consider bringing supplies from larger towns before arriving. Cabin guests typically have access to outdoor picnic tables and fire rings for cooking and dining.

Redwood Coast Cabins & RV Resort

    Great family stop

We stopped through while passing Eureka on our way north and we’re so happy that we did! The cabins are cute and charming (be prepared, no kitchen) and the grounds clean.

    Richardson Grove State Park Campground

    Awesome Camping among the Redwoods

This State Park is awesome to experience camping in the dense redwoods. They have flush toilets and showers available which were nice and well maintained. We went in the beginning of May and the mosquitos were out in abundance. The young lady manning the entrance kiosk was very nice and allowed us to check out the sites in advance of deciding whether to stay or not. Each site had a fire pit, picnic table and bear cabinet. No reservations were required and was first come first served on a wednesday afternoon in May. We stayed only one night and was worth the $35. Very nice park.

    Richardson Grove State Park Campground

    Beautiful grounds

You're literally in the Redwoods. They provide a picnic table, fire pit and food storage boxes. The restrooms were okay, I didn't bother with the showers which were coin operated. My only real complaint is that for a state park, the fee was pretty high.

Westport Beach RV Park and Campground

    Great beach access.

We were lucky to get a site right next to the beach for our class B RV. This is a beautiful site along Highway 1.

PS if this site is full, there is a dry camp about a mile north on Highway one. It is right next to the remains of old Highway One and it’s called Oyster Point. It is a rustic grass lot with space between sites, but not much privacy.. There are picnic tables and fire rings. A couple of pit toilets are located around the site. There are about 45 campsites here. Sites here are on a first come basis and self registering. The photos included here are for oyster point.

Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination

    A Hidden Gem

What a wonderful RV park. Quiet except for the very occasional road noise during the day, extremely quiet at night, very well kept up, friendly hosts, and very nice sites. The options here run the gamut from tent sites, cabins, W/E hookups and even some full hookups with sewer. They also have a dump station, bathrooms/laundry (currently closed due to the pandemic), volleyball, horseshoes, river access and more. Myers Flat is a small town with a tiny grocery/deli but not a ton more.

If you’re coming in along 101, take the Avenue of the Giants if you have some extra time. You’ll end up right in Myers Flat and see some amazing forests along the way.

    We’ll be back for sure.

Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination

Just off the Avenue of Giants

We stayed here once while driving through the red wood forest along the Avenue of Giants. It is very close to the drive-thru tree in Meyers Flat. That one have a park and play houses made out of redwood trees that my daughters love.

Myers Flat is a weird little town. This was a good place to stop, however I’d probably look into the State Park nearby if we stay near Myers Flat again. The tent site was $40 because the was three of us. It’s $35 per night for a tent site up to two people and $5 per night for each additional person.

The tent sites are right along the Eel River. It’s very pretty. There was a dish washing station, bathrooms with showers, a little store and playground. The campground is gated and locks up at night. The staff was friendly.

    Richardson Grove State Park Campground

    Clean

Pros: Clean campsites spaced apart reasonably with picnic tables and fire pits. Clean bathrooms. Beautiful redwoods.

Cons: no dogs allowed on the walking trails. $35 for a tent site is a lot but I’m coming to realize that’s pretty much what it costs in California. Firewood is $10.

Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination

    Quiet Redwoods Getaway

This is a beautiful campground in Meyer’s Flat, CA. The area of Myers Flat is a little “sketchy” but the campground is very well kept and they close the gates at night which is nice. There are nice little cabins on site as well as RV sites. We stayed for 3 nights and it was very enjoyable. Driving and biking along Avenue of the Giants was the highlight of this area! There is a little dog park, volleyball court, playground, swimming area. (we didn’t swim due to the algae warning for northern CA) It’s along Eel River. There’s also a great market and coffee shop nearby that we took advantage of! (pricey but the only place around) The staff is so kind and Vicki was a great help while we made our reservation over the phone. Overall, we would stay again!

Burlington Campground — Humboldt Redwoods State Park

    Beautiful, serene, cool

Gorgeous campground in the Redwoods. We have stayed here twice. Once in March and once in July. The shade from the redwoods makes this a cool haven from the hot California summers. Campsites are mostly shaded. Campsites are large with good fire pits and picnic tables. Lots of redwood stumps for the kids to play on. If you plan to hang your hammock, bring extra rope as the trees are SO BIG that regular hammock ropes won't reach around the trees. Spent several afternoons reading in the shade of the redwoods in our hammock with a blanket on top of us. Even the 13-year-old boy fell asleep reading in the hammock. Short walk to a beautiful swimming hole when the sun warmed things up in the afternoon. The closest store is okay for snacks and essentials but not much else. No real restaurants nearby. Be sure to have your cooler fully packed and bring your meals with you. Clean restrooms with coin operated hot showers. Water spigots close by to campsites.

Guide to Myers Flat

Cabin accommodations near Myers Flat, California range from rustic wooden structures to more upscale options within the coastal redwood ecosystem. The region typically receives 60-80 inches of annual rainfall, creating lush surroundings with heavy tree cover. Most cabins in this area offer refuge from coastal fog that can permeate the region even during summer months when inland temperatures climb.

What to do

River access: 0.3 miles from campsites at Redwoods River Resort & Campground. Though it's a steep walk down to reach it, guests find the Eel River worth the trek. "This place is a little outdated, the bathrooms and showers could be better, campsites are small and not much privacy, the best part of this place is the river," notes Laura M.

Hiking trails: Within walking distance from Humboldt Redwoods State Park. The park provides multiple trail options suitable for various skill levels. A visitor mentions, "Walking distance to the visitor center and other great hikes. Dog-friendly, clean restrooms/coin showers, and relatively private sites - some more than others. Beautiful surroundings!"

Seasonal swimming: Summer months are ideal for enjoying the water near cabin accommodations in the Myers Flat area. "The river access is crowded on the weekends but very enjoyable on weekdays during June and July. Unfortunately, the river is less healthy in August," writes Melissa B. about Richardson Grove State Park.

What campers like

Ancient trees surrounding cabins: The towering redwoods create a unique camping experience at Richardson Grove State Park Campground. "Probably my favorite campground due to the ingenious ancient trees surrounding the entire area. Plenty of hiking super close to the campground. We visited in Winter and had nearly the entire place to ourselves," shares Dani P.

Evening quiet: After 10pm most campgrounds enforce quiet hours. A visitor at Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination observed, "Our site was surrounded by other rigs but when it got late it was quiet, except for the mourning doves and the sounds of the redwoods in the wind."

Secluded spots: For more privacy seek specific cabin sites. Katherine T. notes about Humboldt Redwoods, "Dark forest covered campsites with some privacy. We usually camp off season and this has kept campsites on the quiet side at night."

What you should know

Seasonal planning: October through April brings fewer visitors and potentially more cabin availability. "We visited in Winter and had nearly the entire place to ourselves. Quiet and peaceful, perfect for the entire family," notes a Humboldt Redwoods visitor.

Wildlife awareness: Store food properly in all cabin areas. "You definitely want to use the bear boxes, it's not uncommon to spot a bear while in the Avenue," advises April H. about Burlington Campground.

Cell service: Limited or non-existent at most cabin sites around Myers Flat. "It's 1960 here," notes Laura U. about Richardson Grove Campground, adding "Just don't count on wifi or cell connection."

Water quality: May contain minerals in some facilities. One visitor at Stafford RV Park mentioned, "the water jug we had filled with their water was full of rusty red residue at the bottom."

Tips for camping with families

Visitor center activities: Check daily programs for educational opportunities. At Humboldt Redwoods, a family noted, "nicest camp host/rangers, gigantic trees all around, dogs, families, handicap sites, clean bathrooms with hot water, big visitor center, daily planned activities."

Playground access: Available at select locations including Redwoods River Resort & Campground. One family mentioned, "We really enjoyed our campsite. It was private and level. We really enjoyed the playground and all the outdoor games."

Cabin selection: Book well ahead for summer months when family traffic is highest. A visitor observed at Richardson Grove, "Campground was filled with families which is great for people with children!"

Unique cabin experiences: Look for unusual structures that create memorable stays. Monica F. notes about Stafford RV Park, "super cute tree house to rent for a good price, and other cabins."

Tips from RVers

Hookup details: Verify amperage requirements before booking cabin or RV sites. At Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination, a visitor observed, "The options here run the gamut from tent sites, cabins, W/E hookups and even some full hookups with sewer. They also have a dump station, bathrooms/laundry."

Site selection: Request front row spots when possible for better views. "Decent spaces, especially if you can get the front row with a view to the golf course," suggests Theo A. about Benbow KOA.

Site leveling: Bring blocks as some pads may not be level. One camper mentioned about Redcrest Resort, "Sites are tight and not level side to side. But clean and adequate with FHU."

Site space: Larger rigs may face challenges at some locations. A visitor at Benbow KOA advised, "If we stay again we'll get a pull through site rather than back in."
