Best Cabin Camping near Modesto, CA

Cabin rentals at Lake Tulloch RV Campground and Marina and Turner Cut Resort provide accommodations near Modesto with varying amenities. Lake Tulloch's cabins include small refrigerators and bunk beds suitable for families looking for lakeside stays. Turner Cut Resort offers cabin options with access to electrical hookups and water service. Most locations provide basic furnishings with picnic tables outside for meals, and on-site restroom facilities with showers. The cabins generally lack kitchen facilities beyond mini-refrigerators, requiring guests to use outdoor grills or fire pits for cooking. "Cabin had bunk beds. Small refrigerator," noted a recent reviewer about Lake Tulloch's accommodations.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Del Valle Campground in Livermore offers cabin accommodations within the East Bay Regional Park District, providing opportunities for families within driving distance of Modesto. Most cabins require advance reservations, particularly during summer months when lakeside locations see increased demand. Pet policies vary by campground, with Lake Tulloch and Turner Cut Resort allowing pets at additional fees. Cooking equipment is typically limited, with some cabins offering small refrigerators but no stoves or ovens. Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area's cabins are among the most affordable options, with one reviewer noting, "The staff was very nice and the place was clean and quiet." On-site stores at Lake Tulloch and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park offer essential supplies, though prices are typically higher than in Modesto or nearby towns. Visitors staying multiple nights should consider bringing coolers with food and drinks from home. When staying at Turner Cut Resort or Lake Tulloch, proximity to water activities makes waterproof storage containers advisable for protecting belongings.

    Good Place for Kids

With a pool, petting zoo, a corral where they have a fire and s'mores followed by a movie, this is a great place to camp with the kids.

The showers are free and usually clean although on Saturday evening the campground was full and the bathrooms were dirty and out of TP.

There are tent sites, RV sites and cabins so something for everyone.

There were A LOT of stray cats on the property which kind of drove our dog crazy. But at least the campground is pet friendly.

If you plan to go into Yosemite NP, it's a long drive so plan accordingly. Our family really enjoys Rainbow Pools and Yosemite Pine's proximity to Rainbow Pools is part of why we stay here. The kids can jump and swim there and that's all they really want to do anyway so being close to that is key for us. So many of the places in the park where we used to get in the water do not allow swimming anymore.

    Going downhill ?

It wasn’t as nice as the photos depicted. Water shortage? The grasses were long and dried up, there appears to have been a wooden bridge as a shortcut to the pool/restroom/laundry room/Deli, but no longer. The restrooms were barely tolerable and the woman’s had a bad odor. There’s a dishwashing station that is no longer serviceable, just a stainless sink set in a covered table with no water or even plumbing to include drains. You have to pay for WiFi and sometimes the signal drops. For the cost of the campground the WiFi should be free! Lesser known campgrounds even have free WiFi. There are Conestoga Wagons, Cabins and Yurts. None were occupied. Reason?

Great view with central location in the Park!!!!!!!!!

What a great place to stay and enjoy this magnificent National Park. Reservation fill up quickly and you can see why, as the (closest town) [Mariposa, CA](http://Mariposa, CA https://www.google.com/maps/place/Mariposa,+CA+95338/@37.6138031,-119.9096238,11z/data=!4m21!1m15!4m14!1m6!1m2!1s0x8096b0aac3ff60c5:0xb0ab002eb339644e!2sMariposa,+CA!2m2!1d-119.9662843!2d37.4849377!1m6!1m2!1s0x8096f24a1bc3a93d:0xbda9e022a9515b5a!2sUpper+Pines+Campground,+Yosemite+National+Park,+9024+Southside+Dr,+YOSEMITE+NATIONAL+PARK,+CA+95389!2m2!1d-119.56555!2d37.7391319!3m4!1s0x8096b0aac3ff60c5:0xb0ab002eb339644e!8m2!3d37.4849377!4d-119.9662843) is about an 1.5 hours away. You can reserve camping up to 5 months in advance for $26. This camp ground is close to the (general store) Yosemite Village, Half dome trail head and a river runs along side. The sites are small with 2 parking spaces, the bathroom were well maintained.

I really enjoyed staying here. The view you wake up to is priceless. If you get a chance to dine in the park the [The Majestic Yosemite Hotel Dining Room](http://The Majestic Yosemite Hotelhttp://www.travelyosemite.com/lodging/the-majestic-yosemite-hotel/ Dining Room) has delicious but $$ food.

    Camping friendly

Not located in the Yosemite Park (we made that mistake). 20-30min drive to Yosemite Park.

    Very cute and quiet spot.

Trails around camp grounds, petting zoo for kids.

Tent, camper/rv, and cottage camping available.

Would recommend if you don’t mind a drive to get to the park.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Tower Park

Just what I was looking for!

I wanted somewhere not too far to go and stay when my 5-6 year-old had 5 days off from school. This was perfect in so many ways.

    Positives

    - Amenities! I love how everything was themed, from the street names to the signs. Two nice playgrounds, ball courts, pool and hot tub. Watching your kids play red light/green light on the jumping pillow put a smile on every parent's face.

    - Seasonal programming (weekends only). For October, we did an outdoor movie, magic pumpkins, costume contest, trick or treating, hay ride, and haunted house. My daughter loved everything except the haunted house, which she said was "too scary!"

    - Clean, comfortable facilities. Lots of ways to stay. We car camped and found the hook ups really easy to use. Water, drain, 3 types of electricity, picnic table and firepit at every site. We used their bathrooms and showers and was impressed by how clean they were. Most of the time we had them completely to ourselves and they were even climate controlled.

    - Restaurant. I cooked breakfast and lunch most days at the campsite, but for dinner we splashed out at the kid-friendly Waterfront Grille. Friendly staff, good food (lobster and prime rib, yum!), amazing views of the sunset.

    Negatives

    - Water park was closed. Call ahead to see if it is open when you want to go. I heard that it is never open because of some issue with permits or drought. If so, the promotional video is misleading and I almost deducted a star for this.

    - Expensive. For camping, it is expensive, but think of it more as a theme park/resort, than true camping. We saved on the cabin and RV, and spent on the optional activities and the fancy meals.

Bottom line, I would totally go back and stay as long as I could. I hear it is super crowded in the summer, but it would be worth it if the water park is open.

    A fun campsite

It’s a cozy place with boat rentals! Plenty of shade and bathrooms available. Only reason got 4 star is the constant blue-green algae, making the water unavailable for swimming. Regardless of that, you can still fish and go on boat rides.

Del Valle Campground — East Bay Regional Park District

    Very impressed!

Very happy with our first camping experience at Del Valle. Our campsite (#139) could have used some shade, but we had plenty of space and the views were awesome. Almost every site was occupied, but luckily everyone respected the quiet hours. The facilities were clean and well maintained. We didn’t interact with staff/rangers too much, but the few we did talk to were very friendly and helpful. We look forward to going back!

Guide to Modesto

Cabin camping near Modesto, California offers varied lodging experiences between 30 and 90 minutes from the city. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 95°F during peak season, with cooler spring and fall periods providing more comfortable conditions for outdoor recreation. Winter cabin rentals remain available at most locations but typically see reduced occupancy due to seasonal rainfall patterns from November through March.

What to do

Water recreation at Lake McSwain: Visitors staying in cabins at Lake McSwain Recreation Area can access swimming, fishing and boating facilities. "We love McSwain. It is our go to camp ground in the area. It's close, clean and friendly. It's our thanksgiving weekend every year," notes a regular visitor.

Outdoor activities with wildlife viewing: Families at Del Valle Campground enjoy hiking and nature observation alongside cabin accommodations. "Wonderful place to go hiking & trail running. The hills are pretty intense, but they're beautiful! The lake is also very picturesque," reports one visitor who appreciated the natural setting.

Mountain biking trails: Barrett Cove Recreation Area provides cabin access near established mountain biking routes. "We were in awe of how empty it was. Father's Day weekend and we never came across anyone else on the trails," shares a mountain biker who found the solitude appealing.

What campers like

Seasonal festivities: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park offers themed cabin camping experiences throughout the year. "We went for Christmas in July and Santa was there for pictures, we go for Halloween and there is trick or treating through the whole place, a haunted house and a decor and costume contest," a reviewer explains about the programmed activities.

Basic cabin amenities: Turner Cut Resort provides basic cabins with essential services. "Nice helpful staff, clean bathrooms, well kept campground and beautiful views of river and Mt Diablo. Bar and boat ramp, taco Tuesday, a place to check out for sure!" notes a camper who appreciated the resort's simple yet comfortable setup.

Proximity to regional recreation: Lake Amador cabins position visitors near multiple outdoor pursuits. "As disc golfers, of course we love camping here, having 3 courses to choose from. But there is something for everyone in the family here, there is amazing fishing, boating and swimming," comments a regular visitor who appreciates the diverse activities.

What you should know

Weather considerations: Temperatures can fluctuate significantly at Angels Camp Campground where cabin rentals remain available year-round. "Love that this place is open all year long," mentions a visitor who stayed in one of their six-person cabins during the cooler months.

Cabin positioning: Many cabins have limited space between units, resulting in minimal privacy. "You can easily see into your neighbors site," reports a reviewer about Jellystone Park's cabin placement.

Facility variations: Bathrooms and showers at most cabin locations receive regular cleaning but age variations exist. "The bathrooms weren't so awesome but the campground did offer showers by the store and those were very awesome!" shares a Lake Tulloch visitor, highlighting the inconsistent facilities.

Tips for camping with families

Children's programming: Families benefit from organized activities at Jellystone Park. "There is always something for kids to do. Campsites are nice. Restrooms are clean. Everyone is friendly as they are all there for their kids to have a good time," explains a grandparent who brought children to the themed campground.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Multiple cabin locations offer wildlife sightings appropriate for children. "I woke up with 4 deer casually strolling through our campsite, a huge group of turkeys were cruising around the whole weekend," notes a camper at Lake Amador Resort, describing the natural encounters.

Swimming options: Yosemite Pines RV Resort cabins provide structured water recreation. "With a pool, petting zoo, a corral where they have a fire and s'mores followed by a movie, this is a great place to camp with the kids," says a parent who appreciated the family-friendly amenities.

Tips from RVers

Site selection considerations: RVers with cabin rental experience recommend verifying site characteristics. "Our spaces were basic, but included covered picnic benches. These came in handy for drying our wet biking clothes," describes a Barrett Cove visitor who found practical uses for standard amenities.

Utility hookups: Campers note varying electric services between cabin and RV sites. "Most RV sites have full hookups and are pull throughs," explains an Angels Camp Campground visitor, identifying differences between accommodation types.

Seasonal pricing variations: Multiple locations modify rates based on season and day of week. "You can have 2 cars at your campsite but we only had one, the second would be an additional charge. You can bring pets but also for a charge," notes a Lake Tulloch camper about the fee structure.
