Best RV Parks & Resorts near Mendocino Lake

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort provides full hookup RV sites with 50-amp electric service, water, and sewer connections year-round. Located near Willits, this park accommodates big rigs on level sites with sufficient maneuvering space. The Aurora RV Park & Marina in Nice offers waterfront pull-through RV pads and includes boat access for RV travelers. Redwood Empire Fair RV Park in Ukiah features 30-amp electric hookups on gravel sites with small grass patches between spaces. Konocti Vista RV Park maintains 50-amp service and full hookup options for larger motorhomes. "Sites are $37 with Good Sam discount. Each site has 30 amp service, water, sewer hookups. Gravel sites with small patches of grass."

Navigation to several RV parks requires careful planning, particularly for larger motorhomes approaching Clear Lake campgrounds. The road to Aurora RV Park features narrow sections that may challenge wider vehicles. Between May and September, advance reservations are strongly recommended as lakeside RV sites fill quickly. Most parks maintain year-round accessibility, though winter visitors should verify road conditions during rainy periods. Dump stations are available at Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort and Thousand Trails Russian River, while cell service varies significantly throughout the region. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, travelers should note that "the road to get into the campground is very sketchy. It is extremely narrow and there is no where to pass along it."

Dolphin Isle Marina & RV Park

    Quiet, seals, deer and wildlife

We love this place. We've been here for 2 months now off and on. The site we are on is located between a marina and the Noyo River. It allows for easy access for paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming and seals, sea lions and other wildlife. Last night a 6 point deer walked past our site. The rates are pretty reasonable and the people that run the campgrounds are great to work with. There is a kayak/sup rental as well next door. If you're lucky the maintenance guy will sing or whistle while doing his work, and makes for a good show! It does close down except for long-term use in the winter time (November-??) due to coastal seasonal flooding. Internet can be occasionally spotty but we use AT&T and Verizon which work well. Cable is provided. Full hook ups. Due to Covid enquire about the bathroom situation when calling to book. Walking distance from the harbor and a quick bike ride to the bluffs overlooking the ocean.

Caspar Beach RV Park & Campground

    Steps from the beach

Its a super cramped campground for big rigs. Much nicer and more privacy if tenting. The best spot is “ocean view” but its time to change the name. That site is for tenting but can accommodate a small rv or van. The vegetation is so tall there is no actual ocean view. Restrooms are clean. Showers coin operated. Awesome location. Friendly folks. Good camp store.

Letts Lake Campground — Mendocino National Forest

    Dry Campig for 35' RV

We originally were going to Fouts Creek Campground but it was HOV weekend (Presidents). Lots of dirt bikes and law enforcement. National Forest pulled in officers from surrounding forests and Sheriff Depts.

With a 35' Class A our options were limited. A Ranger suggested Letts Lake. There is a narrow one lane newly paved road that goes up to Dixie Glade equestrian camp, from there it is dirt. Taking it slow, we made it to Letts Lake and parked in spot 12. It was a tight fit, but we made it.

There are two additional campgrounds at the opposite end of the lake but they are closed for winter. As there was no water or trash service there was no fee. Typically $5.00)

The lake is small with no motors allowed but easy to walk around. Pet friendly in fact all but one campsite had at least one dog.  Fire damage to the forest is substantial but new growth is already starting

    Middle Creek Campground

    Great place for dry camping

Beautiful location, campground was easily accessible going up Elk Mountain Road. Camped in Site 11, pull through, no hook ups, nice picnic table, grill and fire pit. Vault toilets, no showers. There is potable water close to the campsites. Very quiet during the week, it did get noisier on the weekends, but everyone settled down for the evening.

    Gualala Point Regional Park

    Small but beautiful county campground

General: 19 general and six walk-in campsites among giant redwood and Bay Laurel trees on the Gualala River. Sites 17 & 18 are a double site.

Site Quality: Level sites with bear box, picnic table, and fire ring. Site One’s camper pad fit our 18-foot camper van, but it would not accommodate anything much larger. Several other camper pads looked short as well. No hookups.

Bath/Shower house: Three individual units with toilet, sink, soap, and paper towels. One shower that takes quarters – three minutes for $2.00.

Activities: There is a trail that leads through the walk-in sites, under Highway One, and to the beach, approximately 1.5 miles. You can also drive to the day-use area for a shorter walk. We were there on a weekday but there were many activities scheduled for the upcoming weekend including kayaking on Bodega Bay, outside yoga, and healthy hustle circuit training – I was sad to miss all of these options.

This campground is beautiful and peaceful. But note that although we did not encounter any, several other campers experienced over-eager raccoons while eating dinner. There was also a sign warning of mountain lions but we did not encounter any. Shout-out to the ranger who shared a lot of good information about the area.

Hidden Pines RV Park & Campground

    Quiet, no frills but safe

The owner is very accommodating but doesn’t give refunds. That didn’t affect me but I’ve heard lots of people complain. The sites are close together but full hookups (except sewer) and a picnic table and fire ring at each one. Dump station is free to campers and was easy to use. Check after noon for the most updated info. Mike the owners was very helpful and so was his staff. I’ve heard there’s a pool but I didn’t use it. A bit pricey but so is everyone else in the area. I felt safe there, and would stay again.

Guide to Mendocino Lake

Mendocino County RV parks offer diverse camping options from coastal bluffs to inland forests. The region spans elevations from sea level to over 2,000 feet, creating varied camping conditions throughout the year. Winter temperatures average 45-55°F with significant rainfall, while summer temperatures range from 60-80°F with foggy coastal mornings.

What to Do

Petting zoo visits: Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort maintains a small animal area where children can interact with farm animals. "The petting zoo was a family favorite. The animals seemed like they were well taken care of," notes a visitor to Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort.

Beach exploration: The coastline offers numerous access points for tide pool exploration and beachcombing. "You can camp right on the beach or just steps away. You can walk to the beach from your campsite and watch the sun set," according to a camper at Westport Union Landing State Beach.

Water recreation: Clear Lake provides opportunities for boating and fishing directly from some campgrounds. "Aurora has two sites that are across the road from each other. One is on the water with back up sites. The RV park has a few boats to rent. Fishing allowed but may require a permit," reports a visitor to The Aurora RV Park & Marina.

What Campers Like

Family-oriented activities: Several RV parks Mendocino Lake area feature dedicated children's facilities. "Designed for families, this KOA a lot. A petting zoo, water play, pool, arcade and events. We were there for movie night. They had a big screen and showed a film for the kiddos," reports a guest at Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort.

Ocean views: Coastal campgrounds provide direct views of the Pacific. "You are perched out in the open on a bluff above the ocean. So the view and sunsets are epic," writes a camper at Westport Union Landing State Beach.

Proximity to attractions: Many campgrounds serve as convenient bases for regional exploration. "Good location near City bike path and walking distance to several stores and restaurants," notes a visitor to Harbor RV Park in Fort Bragg.

What You Should Know

Seasonal considerations: Winter camping requires preparation for wet conditions. "It is inside a gully that gets very little sun. I stayed the end of December through New Years. Not a bad place to hang out. But damp," warns a camper at Caspar Beach RV Park & Campground.

Site privacy varies: Campground layouts differ significantly throughout the region. "This is a rustic park with no sewer hookups, so you need to bring a sewer caddy. They are remodeling and repairing and it is coming along very nicely," reports a camper at Thousand Trails Russian River.

Road access challenges: Some campgrounds require careful navigation. "Minamalist site - table and fire ring with primitive toilets," notes a camper about certain coastal sites, while others mention "the road to get into" some campgrounds can be challenging.

Tips for Camping with Families

Water activities: Several parks feature water recreation specifically for children. "We stayed in one of the premium hot tub sites, where you get your very own hot tub. Highly recommend, my kids absolutely loved it! We were just a few steps from the pool, which was clean, but pretty cold," reports a visitor to Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort.

Recreational facilities: Look for campgrounds with dedicated play areas. "Has a western themed town that hold little dances and ice cream parlor parties for kids. This KOA also has a mini waterpark as well," notes a camper about Mendocino Redwoods.

Age-appropriate campgrounds: Consider campground atmosphere based on children's ages. "We stopped here overnight on our way up the coast. Definitely wouldn't come back for long term camping as we have older teenagers. The facility is definitely geared toward families with smaller kids," advises a visitor to Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Space considerations: Site dimensions vary significantly between parks. "Spaces are tight but safe. Trees give an air of privacy. Located on fairgrounds so expect drag racing and lots of events on weekends," notes a visitor to Redwood Empire Fair RV Park.

Utility connections: Available hookups differ by location. "Nice little rv park. They have hookups and sewer. It is more or less an rv Park for people working in the area or staying for longer periods of time," reports a camper at Redwood Empire Fair RV Park.

Seasonal availability: Popular RV parks Mendocino Lake area fill quickly during summer months. "We were lucky to get a site right next to the beach for our class B RV. This is a beautiful site along Highway 1," shares a visitor at Westport Beach RV Park.
