Bishop Park Group (Ca) — Inyo National Forest

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Fishing and creekside access draw most visitors to Bishop Park Group Campground, a group site set within Inyo National Forest along the waterway that runs through the Bishop Creek canyon. Sites sit directly on the creek. That proximity is the defining feature here, shaping everything from site selection to how campers pack their gear.

Anglers find consistent access to the creek, and reviewers mention fishing as a primary draw alongside the forested surroundings. One practical note worth knowing before arrival: creekside sites do not have adjacent parking. As Paul C. notes, "sites on creekside do not have parking," so campers should plan to carry gear a short distance from the lot across the way. Flush toilets are on-site and multiple reviewers specifically called out cleanliness. The campground sees heavy use during summer weekends, and one reviewer advises arriving earlier in the week to secure a spot.

The site runs from April through October, with snow possible at the upper end of that shoulder season. Drinking water, firewood, and trash service are all available on-site, and RVs up to 22 feet can access the campground. Bishop Park Campground and Intake 2 Campground are both within a short distance if the group site is already reserved. Reservations are accepted, and given the demand, booking ahead is the sensible move for anyone with a fixed travel date.

Best creekside camping!

Right on the creek, good fishing. Very clean. Of note, sites on creekside do not have parking. Must park across the way, still close just pack accordingly. This is a very busy campground so get there early in the week!

Beautiful springtime camping

There was a lot of snow in April. This was one of my favorite spots with tons of amazing hiking and trails nearby. My wife and I stayed for one night and will be returning ASAP.

Frequently Asked Questions

What facilities and amenities are available at Bishop Park Group Campground?

Bishop Park Group Campground offers clean flush toilets and is tent-only with no RV hookups, though some RV camping has been possible. The campground is situated alongside a creek, providing natural water access and fishing opportunities. There are designated camping spots, some directly adjacent to the creek. No electrical hookups are available. The proximity to Cardinal Village offers additional resources nearby. For specific facility information or seasonal changes, contact Inyo National Forest directly.

What do reviews say about Bishop Park Group Campground?

Bishop Park Group Campground is highly regarded for its scenic location with creekside spots that offer excellent fishing opportunities. Campers consistently praise the clean facilities and beautiful surroundings. The area features numerous hiking trails and outdoor activities nearby. Many visitors consider it a favorite camping destination and plan return trips. The campground can get quite busy, especially on weekends, so arriving early in the week is recommended to secure a spot.

What is the layout of Bishop Park Campground and where are the best sites located?

Bishop Park Campground features sites distributed along a creek with some directly on the water. The creekside sites are considered most desirable but have a unique layout feature—they don't have adjacent parking. Campers at these premium water-adjacent sites must park across the way and carry their gear to the site. While still relatively close, this setup requires planning when packing. Non-creekside sites offer more convenient parking. For the best experience, arrive early in the week as the campground fills quickly, especially during peak season.

What is the elevation of Bishop Park Campground and how does it affect camping conditions?

Bishop Park Campground is located at high elevation in the Inyo National Forest, which significantly impacts camping conditions throughout the year. Snow can be present as late as April, making early season camping more challenging but also uniquely beautiful. The elevation creates cooler temperatures, especially at night, even during summer months. Campers should prepare for temperature fluctuations and possible altitude effects when planning their stay. The higher elevation also contributes to clear mountain air and excellent star visibility at night. Always pack appropriate gear for variable mountain weather conditions.

What does Bishop Park Campground look like and are there photos available?

Bishop Park Campground features a picturesque setting with plenty of trees providing natural shade and a creek running through the property. The campground is characterized by its natural beauty, forested surroundings, and proximity to water. Photos of the campground may be available on the Inyo National Forest website or through the Forest Service. The scenic environment includes mountain views and creek access, making it particularly photogenic during spring and summer months.
