Best Cabin Camping near Melbourne, AR

Several cabin campgrounds near Melbourne offer riverfront or lakeside accommodations with varying levels of amenities. Sylamore Creek Camp provides cabins with creek views and basic facilities including electricity, beds, and private bathrooms. Holiday Mountain Resort features fully-furnished cabins with kitchen areas and outdoor spaces for relaxation. Buffalo Point in the Buffalo National River has historic cabins with terraced settings and scenic views. "Our site was not great, it was long and 'thin', between two roads. From the gravel pad there was a 10 foot area and then the picnic table and grill area. Very strange set up! Right across the road was the River/beach access though! LOVE the river, so clear!"

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Buffalo Point offers more primitive cabin options with multi-level sites and limited modern conveniences, while Riverside Campground and Canoe provides family-sized layouts with essential amenities. Most cabins require advance reservations, particularly during spring and fall when fishing attracts visitors to White River locations. Pet policies vary significantly—Riverside Campground prohibits pets entirely, while Sylamore Creek Camp welcomes them. A visitor noted: "We drove up from Florida for a late March early April camping experience. We loved this campground and plan going back soon! We stayed for 6 nights (5 @ site E and our last night we stayed in the 'Mink' cabin.) The 'Mink' cabin was incredible with a porch and swing right on the water!"

Most cabins provide beds but require guests to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Several reviews mention having to exchange towels at camp stores rather than receiving daily replacements. Kitchen facilities range from basic microwaves to full cooking setups, though visitors should verify specific amenities when booking. The nearest substantial shopping is typically 30-45 minutes away, with small camp stores offering limited essentials at premium prices. Many campgrounds feature on-site fish cleaning stations for anglers, particularly those along the White River known for world-class trout fishing. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, visitors should "check whether or not your dog is allowed on the NPS trails before heading out on your hike."

Denton Ferry RV Park & Cabin Rental

    Hot in summer

This is probably an excellent site in spring or fall. However summertime is hot at the site because of the lack of shade trees. Site 15 is by the water and has a large area for dogs or family. There is a staircase down to the water next to site 8. The fishing is good. It’s a pet friendly site however if your dogs bark neighbors will complain. The manager is friendly. They do not have trash pick up service; you just take your trash to a dumpster at the end of the camp, which is not a big deal. No grill available but has picnic tables and fire ring. WI-FI aid very good.

    Sylamore Creek Camp

    Great site!

We love this campground. We love having direct access to creek. It is kayak, family, pet friendly. The only thing it is lacking is internet connection, which for us is a plus for disconnecting. All sites are reasonably level. Site F is the premium and most secluded full hook up site. They have all levels of sites: primitive, water and electric, or full. Their small store has firewood and many other convenient items for sale. We take our own kayaks, but they do have rentals. They have public showers and restrooms, but the restrooms are currently closed due to renovations. It’s really one of our favorite local sites to camp.

Buffalo Point — Buffalo National River

    A must!

Buffalo national river is the first national river established in the US and let me tell you it's gorgeous!! There are many places to camp but we stayed at Buffalo Point. There are a few different loops to stay on, we stayed in A. Each site has parking, for car or RV all differing in length, and you walk behind the parking to an area with benches, picinic table, lantern hanger, and fire pit. The river is behind the sites and you can swim in it. I recommend swim shoes because its all rocks to get to it and entering in and out of the water. Behind A loop on the opposite side from the ramp before the curve in the river is a rope swing. Its across the river so you must be a strong swimmer to beat the current. The bathrooms are well kept and there is trash bins available. Pets are allowed too. The loop that we stayed in was first come first serve and there was a self pay station near the bathroom. If you are up early enough, you may see bald eagles flying around the river like we did!

    Bull Shoals-White River State Park

    Fisherman’s Paradise on White River

I had heard that Bull Shoals- White River State Park was beautiful, but I didn’t fully understand until I saw it. All of the campsites face white river and there’s plenty of space between sites to allow for some level of privacy. All the campsites are flat with nice concrete pads. Each campsite has a fire ring, picnic table, and trash pole.

There is a newer section of the campground that is north of the marina. These campsites have newer asphalt and fire rings and have better access to the updated ADA bath houses. These bath houses are the single-quad bath houses where the toilet and shower are individualized into four quadrants. They are excellent for those campers that might not have travel trailers or self-contained units.

We were able to hike and fish most days. there is a playground and a basketball court that are functional and easy to access for families. The campground is mostly flat which makes it very easy to ride a bike. There were a lot of kids and adults riding bikes or scooters in the campground. There are also three trailers that have been converted into mobile homes near the marina for those campers that don’t have access to a pop-up or a camper for rent. They look very nice. The marina is also very nice and has a lot of simple supplies and merchandise.

When the dam is not releasing generators, you can wade out into the river from your campsite and fish; however, when they release the generators this is going to be very difficult. The only drawback is that you are inundated all day long with boat motors going up and down White River. It is very tranquil and peaceful in the mornings and evenings.

There are many different outfitters that do fishing trips. We chartered the afternoon with a local outfitter and had a great time. We caught a number of trout and were able to eat them for dinner on our last night. If you like to fish, enjoy camping, and enjoy doing both of those things, Bull-Shoals-White River state park is the place to go. I will definitely be going back!

    • 475 Cherokee Park Road, Greers Ferry, Arkansas
    • Directions:  From Drasco take Highway 92 west 7 miles till Brownsville Road.  Turn  left, travel 3 miles.  Keep up with your mileage as there will not be a sign pointing the traveler to the turn.  You will find a small white sign that directs you to Brittany Cove.  Turn left.  We put the address into the GPS (updated GPS) and it did not find the campground.  If you follow the above you will arrive at the campground.

This campground is very rural.  I would suggest buying your supplies at the nearest town.  Once you arrive at the campground you are about 11 miles to Drasco and Greers Ferry will be about the same distance.  Drasco has a small store and service station and Greers Ferry has a small grocery market.

The  sites are small but well shaded which is a bonus.  Fishing or boating would be the main draw for this location.  If you want to enjoy the peace and quiet this is your stop.  The view is beautiful with all the water sites.

    Blue Heron Campground

    Some nice amenities, some lacking.

My wife and I camped here for four nights. Overall it was nice, but there were some things that I wish we knew. The location is great in the sense that it’s easy to get to and it’s laid out well. Unfortunately, it’s directly under an overpass and it is loud- loud enough that I used ear plugs at night.

It’s located on the White river and has a very nice gravel boat ramp, which is a big positive. It also has fishing access during low water.

The WiFi is excellent and the staff are super helpful and friendly.

The biggest plus for us is the bathrooms were among the best that we have found. They’re clean and fairly new.

There is plenty of property to walk and they were very pet friendly. It looks like many of the guests are long term residents.

Guide to Melbourne

Cabins near Melbourne, Arkansas provide direct access to the White and Sylamore Creek waterways throughout three distinct seasons. Elevation changes in the Ozark foothills create terraced cabin settings with multi-level views of surrounding landscapes. Water levels fluctuate seasonally, with spring bringing higher, faster currents while summer offers clearer, more wadeable conditions for swimming and fishing.

What to do

Smallmouth bass fishing: At Holiday Mountain Resort, the creek provides excellent fishing opportunities. "Creek is full of smallmouth bass, great swimming holes for the kids, and some shallow wading areas to lounge in chairs or find crawfish," notes camper Ethan W.

Cave exploration: Near the Buffalo Point cabins, visitors can discover natural formations along the riverbanks. "We found a cool cave at the far right end of the rock beach," shares Susan R., who visited in June and enjoyed exploring the riverside terrain between float trips.

Mountain biking: Cabin guests at Sylamore Creek Camp have easy access to trails. Arkansas F. mentions, "Quick access to the Sylamore Trail, the creek, and nearby mountain biking trails" makes this location ideal for cyclists.

Folk music experiences: Within walking distance of Ozark RV Park, cabin guests can attend local music events. Ashley B. explains, "We chose this campground because of its proximity to the Ozark Folk Center. We are here for the Bluegrass and Fried Chicken festival this weekend at the center."

What campers like

Water access: Proximity to creeks and rivers ranks high for cabin guests. Sandy R. from Sylamore Creek Camp appreciates that "We love having direct access to creek. It is kayak, family, pet friendly."

Cliff jumping: Jordan Campground cabins offer more adventurous water recreation. Donna M. reports, "Kids had a blast here! Cliff jumping, great fishing, kayaking, swim beach, and even pizza from the marina!"

Hiking trails: Buffalo Point cabins provide access to several trail systems. "The Over Look trail was pretty well maintained. We also went to the Rush Ghost Town and did the short loop to check it out," says Susan R., who found multiple hiking options during her stay.

Restaurant access: Unlike many remote cabin locations, dining options exist near some properties. Susan R. notes, "We ate an amazing dinner at the restaurant at Buffalo Point, and also had lunch at The Springhouse. Both were delicious meals!"

What you should know

Towel exchange policies: Some cabin rentals have specific linen procedures. One visitor to Sylamore Creek Camp noted, "Rather than new ones being brought daily, you are required to take the used ones to the camp store and exchange them yourself."

Water level changes: The Buffalo River can rise dramatically after rain. Susan R. observed, "We saw a park ranger on Sunday and asked about the water level and she said it had gone up 12 feet by Saturday night and Sunday morning it was 13 feet."

Cell service limitations: Connectivity varies widely at cabins near Melbourne. Heath L. from Buffalo Point warns, "There is no service in the camp site at all," while Ashley B. at Ozark RV Park specifies, "We use T-Mobile for cell phone service and I have not one single bar of service sitting here."

Bathroom conditions: Riverside Campground and Canoe maintains their facilities well, with Shana D. noting "The bath houses are clean," but other properties may offer more rustic facilities.

Tips for camping with families

Look for swimming areas: Holiday Mountain Resort offers varying water depths for different age groups. Ethan W. mentions, "great swimming holes for the kids, and some shallow wading areas to lounge in chairs or find crawfish."

Consider noise levels: Some cabins enforce quiet hours while others may not. One camper at Buffalo Point had a challenging experience: "They brought in a DJ car to bump techno music during the day, and at night they set up a movie projector and large screen and watched horror movies late into the night."

Check pet policies: Policies vary significantly between properties. Sandy R. confirms Sylamore Creek Camp is "kayak, family, pet friendly," while Shana D. warns that "No pets allowed at this campground" regarding Riverside Campground.

Book early for cabins: Riverside fills quickly during peak seasons. Shana D. advises, "This place is packed during warmer months. Make a reservation!"

Tips from RVers

Site layout considerations: Some sites may have unusual configurations that affect comfort. At Sylamore Creek Camp, Joshua D. warns, "Just don't camp on lower sites when raining," suggesting elevated cabin or RV sites are preferable during wet weather.

Electrical hookup options: Crown Lake RV Resort earns high marks from RVers for its thoughtful design. Leslie D. appreciates that "This campground was designed perfectly with family and couples in mind. The sites aren't very big but they are set up in such a way that even if someone parks next to you, it will not ruin your view."

Seasonal access: Most cabin and RV sites near Melbourne operate on limited schedules. Holiday Mountain Resort has a specific operating season "April 1 to November," while Buffalo Point's cabins are available "March 15 to November 14," requiring advance planning for off-season travelers.

Walking routes: Some properties offer special access to attractions. Ashley B. discovered at Ozark RV Park that it's "within walking distance with a secret walkthrough from the campground to the Folk Center grounds," providing convenient access without moving vehicles.
