    Ponderosa RV Resort

Adult Oriented CG In The Pines

We spent 5-nights here (July 1-6, 2022). Ponderosa is a reasonably quiet (“home improvement” construction next door to us), adult oriented, RV park in the pines(we had apple trees) of Pinetop. I wouldn’t call Ponderosa a RV Resort as it’s more a trailer park with the vast majority of occupants being long term tenants. It is a relatively easy access CG with back-in and pull through (8?) gravel sites. It is a good base camp to visit the area. There are plenty local attractions: lakes, rivers and streams, wilderness and national forests. Activities include: fishing, biking (wish I brought my mtn bike), hiking/walking and ATV trails. We did not make use of the laundry, bathrooms or showers. The WiFi was good as was cell phone reception. We might stay here again.

    OK RV Park

    Spread out and Clean

We stayed a couple night at this camp ground. It was clean and had easy pull through sites. It was not crowded at all and they were good with spreading everyone one for privacy. They had a nice dog area and petrified wood on site to look at.

The lady who check us in was so nice.

This was just a short drive from the Petrified National forest which had various overlooks and short hikes. The forest was also pet friendly.

    I would stay here again.

AT&T was spotty in the area.

Nice But Sites a Little Tricky

This is really a Park Model Resort that has about 25% of their sites set aside for RVs. The RV sites are scattered throughout the park but they have tried to group them together as much as possible. The sites are pretty level, really wide, and fairly deep. There is a concrete patio with each site. Sites are covered in cinders which are a bit of a pain. They present a somewhat soft surface which is like walking in about 6 inches of soft sand. Almost all the sites have a tree planted right at the front next to the road. Some of the trees are a bit wide which really makes getting into the site difficult. Even though the sites are wide the RV parking area is between the patio and the sewer connection which is about 11ft wide. When you combine that with landscaping and patio covers on some of the park models and getting in some sites can be real challenging for a larger rig. We have a 40ft motorhome and have been to this park probably 8 times. So far we have made it in and out but with some new scratches and a bit of maneuvering. Cell service is pretty bad here. We have Verizon cell phones which usually worked for phone service but sometimes cut out. We have Verizon and AT&T hotspots. AT&T worked the best but not fast enough to stream anything most of the time. There is Wi-Fi offered for a fee but we have not tried that. They also offer cable TV which I believe is free. They have a couple of dog parks, nice common areas, laundry, and a small gym. They have some other clubs and activity rooms but all of those have been closed due to Covid.

    Crystal Forest Campground

    Close to Petrified Forest

We camped on the north side of the road. I believe there are four campsites that are pull through and maybe five or six campsites back in . $25 per night for electric. Only 30 amp. Sites were nice & level. Mary, the lady who runs the place, was very nice and accommodating. Only about 2 miles from the entrance to the national park.

    OK RV Park

    Free Cable TV, Good WiFi

Ok RV park in Holbrook, Arizona just what we needed. Best park around this area and see Petrified forest or Winslow. Good Wifi and free cable TV. Showers and laundry are good, clean. All spots are long gravel pull through. Some trees but minimal shade or landscaping. Spacing is close but not tight, they alternate directions so it feels like the next vehicle is further away. No road noise pretty quiet. Most people stay 1 night. A few of us are here waiting out a two day wind storm (25-50 mph). Thank you Highway weather app for showing us the max gusts. As of 3/24/2020 Petrified forest shut their gates not just their visitor centers. Rates are $39-44, or with Good Sam AAA KOA AARP FMCA Active Mitarty $34 -39). Quiet and felt safe, though i would n’t walk through the adjacent mobile home park after dark.

    RV Resort

This is an RV Resort, not a camp ground. The lots are average size and fairly easy to get in to. I’m glad I had a spotter. They have nice amenities including cable TV. There is free WiFi, but only at the office. Dog friendly. It has many park models and seems to be a retirement community. The people were nice. Great place to spend the summer months in Arizona. A bit expensive, but I was here for work so it was paid for.

    Hon-Dah RV Park

Very large CG, mostly full timers

Very large CG with full hookups, level sites, flush toilets and showers. Casino and its restaurants next door. Wild horses venture through the camp in the evening! Spots are pretty close together, it is very full and mostly full timer/long term campers. Staff was helpful and courteous. We did not have a reservation until that morning. It is very busy so advance reservations are the norm. casino offers first timers a players pass with $6 for food and $5 casino credit.

    OK RV Park

    Good location, friendly folks, clean

Average park, seemed safe enough.  We were there one night passing through.  it is walking distance to fast food., so we didn't unhook (big plus on one night stays).  Really friendly folks running the place, they drove us to our spot.  Lots of long term campers  there it seemed like.  right off I-40.  recommended.

RV sites near Clay Springs, Arizona sit at elevations between 6,000-7,000 feet in the White Mountains, providing summer temperatures typically 15-20 degrees cooler than Phoenix. The area experiences a monsoon season from July through September with afternoon thunderstorms common. Most campgrounds remain open only during summer months due to significant winter snowfall that makes access difficult from November through April.

Fishing: Multiple lakes within 30 minutes of Clay Springs offer trout fishing opportunities, particularly from April through October. The area provides both lake and stream fishing with stocked rainbow trout. "There are plenty of local attractions: lakes, rivers and streams, wilderness and national forests," notes a visitor at Ponderosa RV Resort.

Mountain biking: Trail systems throughout the White Mountains accommodate various skill levels from beginner to advanced. "Activities include fishing, biking (wish I brought my mtn bike), hiking/walking and ATV trails," shared a reviewer who regretted not bringing their equipment during a summer stay.

Weather conditions: Summer highs typically range from 75-85°F compared to desert locations that frequently exceed 100°F. "Temps are warm in June and then cool down significantly after the Monsoon rains begin," notes a visitor describing the seasonal pattern that makes the area popular.

We have Verizon cell phones which usually worked for phone service but sometimes cut out," according to a camper who found communications more reliable than expected in mountain terrain.

What you should know

Tips for camping with families

ATV access: Several parks provide direct access to forest trails for off-road vehicles. "Finally a place to camp with the family in Heber-Overgaard. HUGE sites and trails right outside the Campground," notes a satisfied visitor at AJ's Getaway RV Park who appreciated the recreational opportunities.

Wildlife viewing: Early morning and evening hours offer opportunities to see deer, elk, and birds. "Wild horses roaming around while we were there," reports a camper who enjoyed unexpected wildlife encounters during their stay.

Tips from RVers

Site access challenges: Some parks have tight entry points despite spacious sites. "The RV sites are scattered throughout the park but they have tried to group them together as much as possible. The sites are pretty level, really wide, and fairly deep," explains a camper at OK RV Park who navigated entry carefully.

Summer utilities reliability: Most parks maintain consistent power service despite afternoon thunderstorms. "Great hookups and a very quiet place," notes a visitor who found utilities dependable even during monsoon season.
