    QUIET AND PEACEFUL

Driving up to this campground, I almost turned around. But, getting here, I am so glad we didn't! Our site, #34 on the Catoma side, was perfectly level, easy to back in, and a lot of personal space between campers. The view is amazing! The water is right behind us! We have full hookups here, which makes it so easy. There is a small playground area for the kids and a bath house within walking distance.

    Not what we hoped for

We stayed in the Antioch loop on site 93. The site was super close to 92 and 94. We felt we had no personal space. A couple kept walking through our campsite to get to a boat they had parked at our site. I love rustic but Antioch was not rustic, it was over grown and did not look maintained. We think they are letting the Antioch loop go. If that something you like, over grown and close, Antioch loop is for you. We do plan to come back and will try out the Catoma Loop. Catoma Loop looks more like what we enjoy; spaced out, maintained and welcoming.

Nice sites but noisy on race days

Stayed in the Antioch Loop (older section). The sites are a nice size with gravel. Water and electric. Lots of trees and shade. Nice playground and air conditioned shower house. Saw laundry was available but didn’t use. Lots of Spanish moss. The downside, Saturday night race nearby was really loud. I wasn’t terribly bothered but some people might be. Check the raceway schedule before you book.

    Overnight stay

We just stayed here overnight on our way to Destin, Fl. I liked this campground our site was very spacious. It had a concrete pad a graveled area too. Each site had a picnic table, a grill and a fire pit. The bathrooms were very clean. The showers were individual small rooms on the end of the bath houses. The water was hot in the showers. I did not notice any bugs or cobwebs in the bathrooms.

    Overnight at Gunter Hill Cmpgrd

We stayed overnight on site 35. It has full hookups , however the sewer was a bit far from the paring pad. If you have a single black tank hose this may be N issue. However, seeing as we only stayed 1 night I did not plan on hooking up anyway. The site is right across from the bathroom/showers which are individual rather than community type layout , and they were clean and well maintained. For the kiddies there is also a sizable modern playground right next to the bathhouse. The park attendant at the entrance was very pleasant and my pass was ready and available in the rack outside the check-in station which made it extremely easy. It was a Thursday night following 4th of July and there were several others there but only a small number of other campers. Reservations can be made online at recreation.gov

    Can't beat the space!

Love Gunter Hill! ❤️. Wide open and spacious lots here have us spoiled. Clean bathhouse and laundry plus on site boat ramp to the river make it one of our favorite places. Walking trails are great too!

    Quiet woods all around!

The Catoma Loop is only a couple of years old and is FHU 50A with paved roads, concrete parking pads and pea gravel patio. Busy but quiet woods all around. On the Alabama River Lakes with a boat ramp in the older Antioch Loop which is in need of updating. Only water and electric there and better suited for smaller rigs. We were on site 35 right across from the playground. It is difficult to get the Catoma Loop to pop up on the Reserve America’s site. No swimming here but nice place to rides bikes, relax and soak up the green.

    Millers Ferry Campground

    Great RV Lakeside Park

Third time at Millers Ferry! Water & electric hook ups . Good water pressure, dump station on property. Our site was paved and easily accommodated our 40 ft Rv/ fifth wheel & Dooley. Each site has a fire ring/with top grate to grill, picnic table, shepherd hook.Bathroom clean another one under construction. Nice playground. $1 for washer and dryer. Lots of sites are gravel as well, but level. Lots of people fish-parking for trucks & trailers at water ramp on property. No dog park, but lots of nature walks and paved roads to walk on. Oh yes, Lots of mosquitoes & ants, bring bug spray for a more pleasant stay! Shopping in town about 15-20 minutes away. Several good restaurants. There is a Piggly Wiggly, True Value Hardware, and Dollar stores. Approx 20-30 min to Walmart, next town over. Public lake for swimming, on site, with playground!

Guide to Marion Junction

Glamping options near Marion Junction offer a range of accommodations within the rural Black Belt region of central Alabama. The area experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F and mild winters with occasional freezing temperatures. Most campgrounds remain open year-round, though water systems may be winterized during colder months.

What to do

Water activities at Miller's Ferry: The campground provides dedicated swimming areas with a beach suitable for families. "Loved every minute! Great campground, with plenty of access to river. There is even a beach for swimming!" notes Jerry R. about Millers Ferry Campground.

Fishing opportunities: Local waterways support bass, crappie, and catfish fishing year-round. "Amazing place to be never a bad experience in 24 years great fishing great sites. 15 minutes from the next town and it's small perfect get away," shares Charles K. about his experience at Millers Ferry.

Walking trails: Several campgrounds feature walking paths through wooded areas, though most are short, unimproved trails rather than marked hiking paths. "Peaceful! Wish it had more trails but it was nice," reports Shellie K. about the walking options at Millers Ferry Campground.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Campers consistently mention the generous spacing between campsites throughout the area. "Large sites, shaded, have sewer hookups, concrete pads, many on a beautiful lake," notes druann B. about Gunter Hill.

Clean facilities: Maintained bathrooms and showers are available at most locations. "The bathrooms were large but could have been better maintained. All around a very nice campground," reports Ian D. about his stay at Gunter Hill.

Seasonal swimming: Public swimming areas provide relief during hot Alabama summers. "Public lake for swimming, on site, with playground!" mentions L&A C. about the recreation options at Millers Ferry Campground.

What you should know

Limited services: Many campgrounds have restricted amenities, particularly the smaller locations. "Small road side park that the state had turned over to the County some years ago. It only has 3 RV sites and typically offers water and electricity only," explains Dan M. about Chickasaw State Park Campground.

Hookup variations: Sewer connections aren't universal across all campgrounds. "Only drawback is no sewer hookup but dump station on-site," mentions Robert A. about Millers Ferry Campground.

Bugs can be problematic: The humid climate supports mosquitoes, particularly near water. "Oh yes, Lots of mosquitoes & ants, bring bug spray for a more pleasant stay!" warns L&A C. about their experience at Millers Ferry.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature dedicated play areas for children. "Very nice set up, kid friendly. We are enjoying our stay," shares Brooke P. about Millers Ferry Campground.

Safe swimming options: Designated swimming areas provide controlled environments for water recreation. "Great space between sites, pet friendly, nice bathrooms and showers, friendly and helpful host, clean site with concrete pad and picnic table and fire pit! Water access nearby and fun swimming area and playground! Our family had Lots of fun," notes L&A C.

Bathroom proximity: Consider site location relative to facilities when traveling with children. "We stayed overnight on site 35. It has full hookups, however the sewer was a bit far from the paring pad. The site is right across from the bathroom/showers which are individual rather than community type layout," advises Richard A. about Gunter Hill.

Tips from RVers

Route selection: Access roads to some campgrounds can be challenging for larger rigs. "When we made reservations, we were told to only take exit 179 off I-65 and follow the GPS directions, as any other way will take you on narrow roads, including gravel roads," advises MickandKarla W. about Kountry Air RV Park.

Utility placement: Position of hookups may require planning. "We were able to position so we could get to both black tanks with a 10' sewer hose," shares MickandKarla W. about their site at Kountry Air.

Site leveling: Most established campgrounds provide prepared surfaces. "The campground is immaculate and very well maintained with each site carefully leveled with gravel to make set up easy!" notes Steve D. about his experience at Kountry Air RV Park.
