Best Campgrounds near Kelly, WY

Camping options around Kelly, Wyoming include both National Park and Forest Service campgrounds with diverse amenities and accessibility. The area offers several established campgrounds like Gros Ventre Campground in Grand Teton National Park, which features 318 sites suitable for tents and RVs. Shadow Mountain and Curtis Canyon provide dispersed camping opportunities within close proximity to both Kelly and Jackson. Most campgrounds in this region operate seasonally from May through September or early October, with some sites offering electric hookups and water access while others provide more primitive experiences.

Road conditions and weather patterns significantly impact camping experiences in the Kelly area, with most campgrounds closing during winter months. Sites at Gros Ventre Campground operate on a first-come, first-served basis and tend to fill quickly during peak summer months. "We arrived at 9:45 am on a Monday morning and were in our site by 10:30," noted one camper about securing a spot. Elevation changes affect temperatures, with nights remaining cool even during summer months, often dropping into the 30s at night even in July. Bear safety regulations are strictly enforced throughout the region, with food storage boxes provided at developed campgrounds and proper food storage required at all camping locations.

The Grand Teton mountain views represent a major draw for campers visiting the Kelly area. Wildlife sightings are common, with several campgrounds reporting regular moose, deer, and elk encounters. A camper described their experience: "We spotted a moose by the river a ways out of the campground. With loops dedicated for tents and campers with no generators and then ones for RVs, the natural surroundings are relatively preserved." Most developed campgrounds provide basic amenities like vault or flush toilets and potable water, while dispersed camping areas typically lack facilities. Sites range from those with mountain views to riverside locations, with many campers noting the exceptional natural setting and relative solitude compared to more crowded campgrounds in other parts of Grand Teton National Park.

    Forest Road 30310 Dispersed Campsite

    Grand Tetons stay

Stop at this location after we went through Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. Went past the lower lot and up the hill and took the road to the left. It's rocky and some what step. Our for Ranger and Teardrop went up it just fine in two wheel drive, but at a point, I thought we might have to use it. We parked in site 5 on a corner of two trails. Made it just before sunset on the Tetons.

    Curtis Canyon Dispersed Camping

    Nice spots, flies are insane

Busy area, but had no issue finding a spot on a weekday before 3pm. Road of course gets busy early the morning and late at night. Some spots have a view and good cell coverage, others not so much. These spots are beyond the developed campground and reserved host site. I think people are over dramatic about the road, but can see why people would skip this for that alone.

The flies were super annoying even on a cool, breezy day. Maybe they just liked my bug spray, I'm not sure. But with the current fire ban, I spent most of my time at these sites indoors.

I camped along this trail in June 2022, it was a beautiful drive, thought I was going to get to Grand Teton on this trail but found it was blocked by a steel trail gate, be prepared for bugs, will definitely be going back here when I can

    Spread Creek Dispersed Campground

We all visit this amazing place

I had an amazing time during my stay at Spread Creek Dispersed Campground last summer! It was very calm to fall asleep to the sound of the creek, and the views Movie Box of the meadow. There is plenty of space and a true back-to-nature feel, which makes it charmingly rustic. While exploring, I actually found information about this place , and I'm happy I did—I'm definitely intending to return!

Fair camp site and fairly level that is near the restrooms and water source. I have Starlink Mini and was able to get acceptable WiFi reception. Rough cobble stone road going up to the campground.
