Primitive Camping Primitive campsites with picnic tables, barbecue grills, fire rings, and plenty of trees for shade and privacy are scattered along the cliffs and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The east and north sides of Pace Bend offer more gentle, sloping shorelines with sandy and gravel beaches, providing easy access to the lake for families with young children and people with disabilities. Numerous primitive campsites can be found among the oak and mesquite trees and all are within a short walk to the lake. Camping on the beach is also permitted. Please note that primitive camping permits do not include shower privileges. Waterless toilets are available. KRAUSE SPRINGS is a well-known camping & swimming site located in the beautiful Hill Country of Texas. It is located in Spicewood, Texas approximately 30 miles west of Austin. The 115 acre property is listed on the National Registry of Historical Sites and has been privately owned by the Krause Family for over 50 years. Krause Springs has many natural sites to explore. There are 32 springs on the property, and several feed the manmade pool and the natural pool which flows into Lake Travis. It’s a refreshing treat to swim in the Springs during the hot summers of Texas! If camping is in your plans, there is primitive tent camping as well as 24 RV sites with water and electricity available. Guests are also welcome to relax and to stroll through the Butterfly Gardens; take time to listen to the music of the wind chimes and the fountains during your visit! We take reservations for RV hookups ONLY. Primitive tent camping is available on “first come-first site” basis. Cranes Mill Park is located on a long peninsula on the southwestern shore of Canyon Lake in Texas Hill Country, halfway between Austin and San Antonio. Dramatic sunrises to the east of the park across Canyon Lake and sunsets on the western side of the park behind the Guadalupe River make this an unforgettable location.
Cranes Mill Park offers a ramp for boating and two fishing piers. The Canyon Lake area has many options for recreation including: helicopter tours, boating, kayaking, canoeing, jet-skiing, dining, hiking, biking, fishing, camping, waterskiing, parasailing, horseback riding, guided gorge tours , river tubing, and much more. Anglers are welcome to try their hand at trout fishing in the Guadalupe River between the dam and New Braunfels.
The Guadalupe River flows into Canyon Lake on the west side of Cranes Mill Park creating tranquil, warm summer evenings as the sun rests across the horizon. The peninsula is home to wildlife including deer, squirrel, fox, armadillo, raccoon, Cardinals, dove, Mockingbirds, finch and swallow.
Some of the local attractions include: Historic Downtown Gruene Texas, Natural Bridge Caverns, Wonder World in San Marcos, Comal River, Guadalupe River, San Marcos River, Lake Dunlap, Lake McQueeny, historic downtown New Braunfels, San Antonio River Walk, Six Flags, Sea World and many others.

Moss Lake (eight sites) and Walnut Springs (12 sites) are a 1 to 3 mile hike over rugged terrain. We charge an excess vehicle fee of $6 per car, per night, for each vehicle over two per campsite. No ash-producing fires are permitted in this area. You may use containerized fuel stoves that can be turned off for cooking. Minors (under 17) who are not camping with a sponsored group must provide a written consent form to stay overnight. No hammocks allowed in primitive camping areas.

Pets To protect this Natural Area, pets are only allowed in the designated day-use picnic areas, the campgrounds, and on the Loop Trail (pets are not allowed on any other trail). Don't leave pets unattended, including in vehicles and at campsites, and keep them on a leash no longer than six feet at all times.
Shopping Our park store carries some gift items. You can buy wood for campfires at the park. Please bring your own drinking water, as it is in short supply due to the ongoing drought.

GuideWe stayed at spot 50 in the west look. It was extremely hard to back into, there is a tree right in front that you have to angle around. Site was somewhat level. Bathrooms were a little far away, you could see them from the spot, but it was about a.2 mile walk. Not a lot of street lights throughout the campground made things nice and quiet at night. The site had good Verizon cell service, around 25-50 mbps. The Tmobile service was around the same. The lake was beautiful and there were a ton of trails and spots to sightsee. The big draw for this campground is the proximity to Longhorn Caverns state park, which is a must see and do. Overall the campground was clean, relatively quiet, right next on the lake, with a ton of activities. I would recommend staying at one of the other areas that have bathrooms closer and better sites.

No shade...none. Right next to busy highway so lots of traffic noise. To get to see river you need to go through high weeds.

YOU MAY PAY SIGNIFICANTLY MORE AT REAL RESORTS IN THE AREA BUT IT WOULD BE WORTH IT IN THE 94 DEGREE HEAT WITH ABSOLUTELY NO SHADE. STAYED 4 NIGHTS EVEN WITH AC ON CONTINUOUSLY COULD NOT COOL DOWN RV UNTIL AFTER 8PM.

Honestly, the price wasn't too bad. Gated community with concierge service to your site. Most sites had some degree of shade and a decent amount of privacy. The pool and shower facilities are very nice and clean. The 2 dog parks (split into 2 sections each for small and large...so 4 dog parks) really helped keep our dogs entertained. Great rotation of food trucks and activities for kids. 100% recommended for a RV Resort stay.

This is an older park, but the river access makes up for the outdated but clean facilities. Our side of the park was along the river and had great shade. The other side had no trees and seemed to be more full-time folks. Facilities are a little dated but clean. There are tons of full-time folks, and I can see why. The river is right there. Great river access and space to sit and watch the tubers go by. Very few bells and whistles. Some folks said it was much more community oriented before the new managers took over. They used to do movies and food trucks, and things just looked better. But it was nice. It was expensive for what it was, but again... the river access made it great.

This was our very 1st RV park. It set the tone for all our spots moving forward. Clean bathrooms, clean pool/hot tub, clean laundry, well stocked store, gated community, great walking trail around a big lake and near big long horn cows. Met some big white neighbor dogs on the trail, but they kept their distance. Seems like the middle of nowhere, but it's really close to Austin, lockhart, Circuit of the America's. We stayed a week. Will stay again.

Stopped here for a night driving cross country. I was blown away by the cleanliness of the park. The bathrooms and showers feel like you are in a hotel, not a campground, and all of the amenities are well cared for.
The price was well worth it for this very quiet and maintained area.
