Great Spot to Explore the North Cascades & Mountain Loop Hwy

We felt very lucky to find this park as we did an impromptu search for 4th of July openings a week before the Holiday. A good reminder to check county and city campgrounds along with the bigger players such as State and Federal parks. This Snohomish County Park is close to Darrington, WA which makes it perfect for exploring the North Cascades and the Mountain Loop Hwy. If camping in a trailer, take special note of accessibility of the site by checking out the campground map. I’ve included a picture with sites I’ve checked for future use for us. The site we chose was based on length but it was narrow, with a tree branch that kept us from going further back on the site and some tricky turns to get to it. I would recommend the sites 1 - 11 area as most accessible for trailers. Most sites were very private. The park is beautifully forested and a trail takes you to Squire Creek where there’s a little beach area. The campground has flush toilets but no showers. If it had showers, I would have rated it 5 stars. If I could give it a 4.5 on this site, I would. We had a great time, wonderful camp host, and perfect weather.

Great place

Have been camping here for years and the camp ground has had things added to it over the years as well. Quite and always a laid back atmosphere. Miss the camp sites that where on the west end of the park that where really close to the river. But still a great place to camp.

A unicorn

Reservable campsites, mature forest, 2 hours from Seattle, not full on Labor Day weekend! I didn’t know that existed. It’s a nice small campground on the Mountain Loop Highway. It has very dense trees and a small beach on a creek for wading. Hiking trails and a larger river are a short drive away.

Great stopover on the way to Methow

Glad to find this campground about 1 hr north of seattle. It got rainy and dark soon after leaving late Friday night. We were glad it had an available spot for our adventure van. No complaints

Love the creek!

Nice campground, busy summer = road noise. Early spring and fall much more tranquil. Love playing the creek. Campsites are nicely spaced and private enough. Overall nice stay!

Nice forested campsites too close to noisy road

The surrounding area here is lovely and the campsites are nice. We had planned on staying two nights but during the early evening of our first night, they came and locked the bathrooms leaving the entire campground with one, well used portable toilet. When we went to bed that night, the sound of trucks and traffic kept us awake most of the night. We had carefully selected our site to be away from the road but we were unsuccessful in escaping the sound. After a fitful nights sleep, we decided to leave that day. Oh, and the bathrooms had yet to be unlocked as we drove away late morning.

We paid $30 per night for a noisy campground with locked facilities. We will NOT be coming back.
