    Not worth the stop

If you disregard the rough old permanent stayers, unclean, weeds and parked cars,, the lake view at sunset was beautiful

    Nice Little Campground

I occasionally go down here for fishing. Nice little campground. Easy access to the water. The waterfall really flows in the spring, but slows as summer sets in. Fishing was decent. The boat launch is only available during high water. When Grand Coulee starts letting the water down in Lake Roosevelt the Hawk Creek boat launch gets closed. Don’t worry there are a few other boat launches within a short drive (10-15 minutes).

Pros and Cons are about even

Pros: good fishing, good amenities (shower, bathroom, etc), price, cleanliness, availability. Cons: Typical designated camping stacked right next to each other so barking dogs, crying kids, or drunks are highly likely to be a nuisance. Overall it's really well maintained and accessible. There's a little grocery store/market/gas across from the park on 262 if you need anything.

    Perfect!

Perfect in every way. Close to a major town, store and restaurant across the road, giant sites with a good layout to still feel somewhat secluded and if you’re an angler, you’re 100 yards away from the boat launch.

    stargazing and birdwatching fantastic

widest, darkest skies in the state.... EXCEPT for the 3 glaring white/daylight floodlights in the parking lot. WTF. lay in your car or tent's shadow and the rest of the stars won't disappoint.

extremely, extremely active wildlife. dozens of kinds of birds and bats. neat big bugs. we woke up to a flock of pelicans. at night, coyotes howling in ALL directions and raccoons rustling all around by the water and looking at us. they had a loud growling tussle at one point. at another point, one of the birds (goose? duck?) met a loud, violent end in the water that sounded really close by. kinda spooky! found a dead duck right on the shore by the dock in the morning. i would have thought its killer had it for dinner...

if they turn the damn lights out, it might become the best dark sky site in the state. it's still pretty good but very frustrating to stay out of reach of greatness due to such a boneheaded design choice. daylight floodlights! in the *overnight campground!*

we packed in water. with all of the agriculture around here I dunno if the lake is filterable. there is a broken spigot.

    Really nice

Well maintained with lots of trees which is not typical for the surrounding area. Had full services which was nice because it was warm and the air conditioning was appreciated.

    Skip this one

We spent an overnight here, but it was sadly not a great stay. I can’t recommend this spot for the following reasons:

The site was backed led up against the highway and was not only was it so loud we couldn’t sleep—it literally shook the rig despite stabilizers. If we’d been further into the park, it still would have been uncomfortably loud.

There is a highway bridge that leads directly in the park—almost directly into the site we were given. People were constantly walking into the site from the bridge day and night. This felt less safe than much of the isolated boondocking we’ve done—or honestly any of our camping.

Our site was covered in trash. It could be in part due to the highway, but I’ve never had site with more trash left behind ever.

No access to WiFi, this could be because we never spoke to staff. The restroom closest to our site was unexpectedly locked—had to use the other that had only one shower stall and two toilets. Shower was fine and had hot water, but that bathroom couldn’t support the volume of campers.

The staff left midday and were completely unreachable. We needed to find out spot, purchase quarters for laundry, and had questions about amenities/ the campground and we’re unable to talk to anyone.

Amenities were ultimately fine and if none of those other elements bothered you ^ you’ll be fine.

    Clear Lake Recreation Area

    Party place

This place had everything i could possibly want for an affordable price. Boat, kayak and other equipment rentals, restaurant, bathrooms, changing rooms, showers, fishing dock, swimming area, shaded lawns and picnic tables. Only $15 for a dry tent space with shade and view of the lake! Why not give it 5 stars? The visitors are primarily young, drinking, playing loud music, driving fast and kicking up dust. It was annoying but tolerable. Staff was kind, knowledgeable, location is close to I90 and easy to find. Easily a few hundred people here on a summer weekend, so be prepared. Be sure to check out the turtles swimming around the dock. Lots of wildlife.

    Military ID required.

Sites 1-15 have zero shade and are close together. Dogs are not allowed on the beach or lake areas. Ports-potties for close bathrooms. Okay if you’re staying overnight or here specifically for the lake.

    Potholes State Park Campground

Just okay for us- beware of TICKS

Pros:: The park itself is pretty and green. The bathrooms are clean and well kept with free showers. The campsite are spacious but there is no privacy. The kids loved the playground and there are community volleyball nets that are nice. There’s a nice hiking trail nearby although be cautious of snakes, we came across a very large gopher snake on the trail.

Cons:: we thought the kids would be able to swim but there’s not really any good place to do it here. Definitely caters more to the fishing and boating crowd.

There was also a large group of maybe 100+ people having an annual gathering that had personal volleyball nets up in the middle of fields throughout the park and they would assemble to play right behind our site and leave trash all over the place. When we were asked by the ranger to turn our music off at 8:59pm we mentioned it and he told us they come every year and he knows they will pick it up before they leave. Then they were extremely loud and disruptive all night.

And last but not least, beware of TICKS. We found a lot on our dogs and even some crawling on us. Apparently it’s common on that side of the Cascades but I wasn’t aware so come prepared for those.

    Hidden Gem

The first thing that jumps out is the fantastic customer service from the owners. The sites are perfect for a mid size RV (or tent) but it’s small enough and away from the hustle of life - love it. Peaceful and isolated just enough. They offer wifi, there’s a nice restaurant and everyone is extremely friendly. Conveniently located I’ll make an excuse to be back. Thirty minutes from a boat launch on Roosevelt.

Beautiful waterfall a short walk away

We camped here mid May 2016 in site #16. The fee at the time was $18. There were 2 clean vault toilets. The available water was treated with iodine. The waterfall was about 30-40’ high and emerged from a rock crevice. The sites were t that private but only a few people were there. I believe now that this federal campground is by reservation only as are the others in the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area.

    Convenient

If you’re fishing, this is the perfect spot. But this is an RV review. Nice view on the lake, extremely convenient - just not my ideal RV spot. But this is a 5 star if you’re fishing. Boat launch only feet away. Not a lot to do at the park but tons of hiking and fishing all around you.

Just Okay - Served the purpose we needed

We were looking at houses nearby and wanted a spot to use as home base in our RV. The office was friendly enough. The stars I knocked off were due to super loud road noise all night/day and the upkeep of the buildings/sites were lackluster. Overall like I said, the spot was just okay and served our purpose. Be ready for road noise if you are in or out of your rv.

    Small area, small lake

This is a small little area off the road not too far. There was only one other person there fishing when we were there. The campsites are close together with no privacy between. They look big enough for a tent and this would be a fun area to float the small lake in a tiny boat and fish. We followed a little trail to another part of the lake too. This overall is not a place I'd recommend swimming. We saw a few deer and a coyote while we were out. I would return here though I don't think it would be my first choice for camping.

    Nostalgia in the sand

I came here every year as a kid and just came back for the first time as an adult. I love camping in the sand, we always stayed among the willow trees. Wake up hot and jump in the reservoir. It can be crowded on the weekends, but many of the sites in the willows provide a good deal of privacy. This place is a staple in eastern Washington.

    Coffeepot Lake

    Tranquil

Was amazed at how quiet and peaceful it was here. I had a smaller camp trailer that didn’t really fit but I was the only one there. The 5 spaces are designed for cars and tents. The lake was so tranquil and the lake cliffs were pretty magnificent to boat up against. All kinds of birds, waterfowl, coyotes And deer. The launch is a bit sketchy and uneven under the water. Very easy access to this lake though and in a rather remote area so not busy during the week.

    Poor service/attitude

We were disappointed with the cramped sites, but at least noonr was butted up to the end of our trailer until our last night. They need into our trailer trying to park in the small site. When we asked the office why they assigned such a large rig there with so many other empty sites, we were told it wasn't their responsibility. We won't stay here again.

    Be Warned

We went on the 4th of July weekend. The campground was crowded with families but also groups of adults. The families were great but the adult groups not so much. There is no host to monitor people so there were folks running their generators all night and others were up partying until 2 in the morning making lots of noise. Ranger came but once he left they went back to all the noise. Also, the beautiful inlet to the lake was a mosquito breeding ground. You have been warned.

    Mardon Resort

    Convenient but Crowded

This was our first visit to an RV “resort” and it wasn’t horrible. MarDon has lots of nice amenities but boy is it crowded. If you don’t mind crowds and like the convenience of resort camping MarDon is a good choice.

(Disclaimer: I prefer boondocking and getting as far away from people as possible, so read this review with that in mind.)

MarDon Resort sits on Potholes Reservoir about 16 miles southwest of Moses Lake. The reservoir is massive and offers excellent fishing and water sports. Central Washington gets dry and hot in the summer so come prepared.

The Resort has been around since the 1970s and offers a lot of amenities: full hookup sites, tent sites, monthly rates, marina, restaurant & bar, swimming beach, mini golf, boat & golf cart rentals and more.

Camping and day use on sand dunes *WiFi

Last visited in 2020. New is Wi-Fi. I did remote work off and on. Used to come every year in late summer when water level is low and there are more sand dunes. There's 6 circular FHU loops (back in only), a group camp and cabin loop. In the main campground campsites are well spaced with room in the middle of each loop to park boats or extra cars. There are token operated showers, boat trailer parking and fish cleaning stations. Our kids would bike, scooter and use the playground. We boat out to the dunes, spend the day on a dune and fish and do water sports from there. The swimming area is hit and miss depending on the water level. Be aware of lots of vegetation in the water near the shore. Sometimes swimming is prohibited when there is a toxic algae break out. So check ahead. Also, when tenting during the week (M-Th), pitch tents on tent pad, not the grass (read the signs posted). Sprinklers run regularly. At night you can hear the coyotes. Boat launch area was rebuilt and can get busy. It's our fam fav.

    Potholes State Park Campground

    Decent camp ground

This is a good place to camp, but.

While we did have good coverage for our Verizon phones.  We got site 98 which backs up to the lake.  Great idea, but due to people having no manners, we had people walking through our campsite to get to the water to fish constantly.

This was also the first time we experienced animal problems on a camping trip.  Normally, we move all our food under our awning to a small table we keep beside the TT for cooking.  This trip, there were racoons that liked our food more than we did.  First night, we lost a half gallon glass jar of dog food.  It had a lid on it, and it took me until the second night to figure it out.  I thought we had just misplaced it since nothing else was missing.  But after the activities on the second night we knew where the dog food went.  Ended up loosing a box of graham crackers, bag of marshmallows, and a bag of burger buns.

Other than the animal issue(self induced).  The camp site was fine.  I do find the placement of the large boulders to be odd!  We had to back our TT all the way into the camp site due to they line each side of the camp sites with huge boulders.  I am talking big ones, they are at least half the size of the picnic tables.  This would be fine, but they put one on each side of the entrance to the camp site which does make it a bit concerning to back in.  And once in, you have to make sure you place your TT in the right place so you don't have one in front of your door.

There was no hookups at this site, it was fairly flat, but it was VERY dust!  There was very little grass, odd for end of April, so the site was mainly just a dirt patch which was dry enough it was pretty much just dust.

Another observation was that while they did have a couple water taps (dish washing station) on this loop, they were both on the other side of the loop, so we would have to either walk through others camp sites or walk around the entire loop.

With the issues with animals, I would suggest you dump your trash nightly, but there was no dumpsters on this loop.  The closest was about half way back to the check-in booth, in the boat ramp parking lot.  This was about 1/2 mile from our camp site.
