Best RV Parks & Resorts near Onalaska, WA

Several RV parks surround Onalaska, Washington, providing convenient bases for exploring the region. Thousand Trails Chehalis, open year-round, offers full hookup sites with 50-amp service and accommodates larger motorhomes on gravel pads. Just east in Silver Creek, Harmony Lakeside RV Park features big-rig friendly sites with water, electric, and sewer connections. Thousand Trails Paradise operates seasonally from April through October with full hookups and spacious pull-through options for larger RVs. Silver Cove RV Resort in Silver Lake maintains year-round access with lakefront sites that accommodate various RV sizes. "The sites I've stayed in are huge. Room for a fifth wheel (awning and slide out), two vehicles and two large dogs without feeling packed in at all," notes one regular visitor about Silver Cove's crushed rock pads.

Cell service varies significantly across these RV campgrounds, with Verizon generally providing reliable coverage near major roads. Most parks maintain on-site dump stations, though Paradise Cove Resort lacks this amenity. Propane fill services are available at select locations like Silver Cove RV Resort, but typically only on weekdays. During summer months, particularly July and August, advance reservations are essential as parks fill quickly with travelers visiting Mount Rainier and Mount St. Helens. Many RV sites throughout the region feature picnic tables and fire rings, though seasonal burn bans frequently restrict campfires during dry periods. Pet policies are generally accommodating, with designated pet areas at several parks, though none offer fenced dog runs. Winter camping options remain available at Harmony Lakeside and Silver Cove, both maintaining full hookups year-round despite reduced amenity operations.

    Ike Kinswa State Park Campground

    Camping amongst the tall trees

This campground is on Mayfield Lake where the Cowlitz River flows into the lake. We were in loop D, which was the only open loop along with the cabins (cabins are loop C and attached to loop D). This is a partial hook-up loop. Full hook-ups are in loop A. The campground is heavily wooded which is really nice for shade, though it can make it tricky to get into a spot if you have slide outs. As we were on the outer part of the loop in a pull-through site, we had a view of the woods and quite a bit of space between neighboring sites. We could not see either of the neighboring sites while sitting by our campfire. There was a trail to the trash compactor next to our site, but it did not seem to be heavily used. The trash compactor is probably a good 1/4 mile down this trail by the dump station. It was very quiet at night, which was fantastic! Very good Verizon cell service. The day use area is out of the campground and across the main road. There is a playground and beach area. It would have been nice if there was a playground on the campground side of the park.

    Toutle River RV Resort

    I5 access

We stayed 3 nights at Toutle River RV Resort now owned by RV Inn Style chain. Quiet and respectful campers with paroling friendly staff. I5 access is perfect, although road and train noise could be bothersome for some campers as the campground is nestled in between. The camp store and pool were open. The playground, disk golf and basketball hoops accessible but the pickle ball courts had been removed since we last visited. Sites range from open to treed with many of the pick nick tables needing refurbished. Full hookups with gravel pads for 70+$$ per night. WiFi isn’t free, must be purchased. We had spotty cell service with Verizon though we were directly off I5 corridor. The public restrooms were clean, but mostly under construction while we were camping. Many full timers w/park models and trailer/RV’s sprinkled throughout the park. All-in-all we will stay here again in the future and happy to do so.

Cougar Rock Campground — Mount Rainier National Park

    Nice place

Nice campground on the SW corner of Mt Rainier NP. We were here in the off season, meaning that reservations are not taken and everything is FCFS. You stop at the ranger office at the campground entrance and you’re given a campsite. $20/night. Zero cell service in this whole area (but there was good cell reception and wifi at Paradise, and free wifi at the museum 2 miles down at Longmire).

There are water spigots at this campground, flush toilets, no showers, trash dumpsters, and glass, plastic, and aluminum recycling. Each site has a picnic table, bear box, and fire pit. The dump station has been non operational for several years and the ranger said she doesn’t think it’ll ever be fixed.

The length limit here is 35 ft for a motorhome, and us at 28 ft head to toe felt very big here. The Wonderland Trail hike can be accessed from this campground, just across the road. Lots of trees in this campground, and we struggled to keep our batteries charged via solar, though there looked to be enough open sky for starlink (we don’t have starlink so I can’t say). All the loops here in this campground are pretty similar in layout and landscape.

    Riverbend Campground

    Nice campground with friendly staff

Interesting the other review was for a first time out with their travel trailer!  Same for us!

We got site 106 which was the furthest one out, it was right along the river.  The site has a concrete slab and fit our Jayco 174BH perfectly.

This site does is a back in, but the slab is at a 90 degree angle from the drive.  So you will have to back your trailer around a corner if you plan to park it on the slab.  Didn't see other sites like this.

The campground did have a very small selection of items to buy, but mainly snacks.  They do fill propane tanks, but only during week days.

The site had water and electrical, but no sewer connections.  they do have a nice dump station.

The camp ground itself did have at least 2 pet areas neither are fenced so a leash is required, along with a playground for the kids.

We have Verizon and had no issues with cell signal at this campground.

Also, this is a private campground, so they have a guy that stands at the gate to open it when guests come arrive.

    Kemp Olson Memorial Park

    Good for a quick overnight

Quaint and quiet town. Small quiet park with electric and water and a dump station. Site two is a pull through that is not set up right to have your awning on the correct side (see photo). Other pull through was too small for our 33’ tt. Sites adequately spaced for some privacy. Nice playground for kids and horseshoe courts. Dog friendly. Nice drive over white pass from Yakima.

    Elkamp Eastcreek

    Best place in Washington state

This is the cleanest, most cared for camping site I have ever been to. The owners Tom and Brian, make your stay very enjoyable. They care about you having a great experience, whether you’re a first time camper or a seasoned camper. They have a great store with snacks, wine, beer, and local sourced goods. They have games you can use while you are there, like corn hole and board and card games, free of charge. Sites are large for travel trailers and motor homes, they also have tent and group sites. Trailer and motor home sites have power and water, there is a dump station you can use on your way home free of charge. The bathrooms are large and very clean, the shower is 4 quarters for 6 minutes, those of us who try to take a 3 minute shower in our rigs so we don’t run through all the hot water so our partner can have a shower without waiting for the water to get hot again it’s a blessing. In the evening Tom or Brian drive through the park seeing if anyone needs ice or firewood, if there’s not a burn ban, bring a propane fire pit for your camping experience. They also sell propane so no fears on running out. The best thing is you are under a large canopy of trees which helps to keep you cool even on the hottest days. There is a small creek to put your chair in and put your feet in the water. Our first year there we brought 4 other people, this year it was 28. We make Elkcamp our yearly get together. Family friendly and a great place to unwind. You’re only a few miles from mineral lake, bring your trunks, inner tube, or your paddle boards. I’d give it a solid 10 out of 10.

    Kemp Olson Memorial Park

Nice, small and largely undiscovered CG

We are full-timers in a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow, were meeting friends in the area and visiting Mt. Rainier. The CG has seen some recent improvements, including graveling of the 12 campsite pads. Some of the sites have picnic tables, none of them have fire pits, and only one, site 12, has a grill. We were in site 2 for 4 days in early September. Ours was one of 2 pull-throughs, but ours was on the inside of the loop, which put the utilities on the correct side, but the awing side was close to the road and a large tree, so we had to setup chairs and such on the utility side. Most of the sites are pretty well spaced. There were only a handful of campers here when we arrived on the Friday before the Labor Day weekend and come Saturday, there were only two left besides us. Unfortunately, one of the two remaining was a long-timer, maybe the grounds keeper(?), who often let his little dog run loose in the CG, and though friendly enough, it barked at those who passed near it. The park has a playground and a coin operated water fountain for the kids. There is an elementary school next door, so it can get a little raucous when the kids are outside. There were quite a few low hanging branches throughout the CG, but most were fairly small. I did mention this to the Toledo City Hall, who said they would put it on the list. Although there is a faded“Free WiFi Zone” as you enter the park, we were not able to detect one. AT&T coverage good, ranging from 3-4 Bars of LTE with speeds up to 15 MB/s. We were able to get DISH coverage on some of

Cougar Rock Campground — Mount Rainier National Park

    Stars, mountains, buglessness

Best stars you'll see all year if you go on a clear day (go in the summer)! You can see Mount Rainer during the day, and take day trips to hiking trails with mountains and waterfalls and even a gondola near the ski resort. RV friendly and dogs welcome at campsite (just not on trails). Running water, flush toilets, and fire pit available. Not many bugs, might might get cold at night. Ranger apprently does an info talk around 8pm. Book site in advance (fills up quickly). Will have to pay a national park fee to get in.

Guide to Onalaska

The Onalaska area sits at approximately 500 feet elevation in southwestern Washington, with camping options scattered across Lewis County's forested landscape. Seasonal weather patterns affect campground operations with temperatures ranging from mid-30s in winter to upper-70s during summer. Many campgrounds near Onalaska maintain crushed rock or gravel pads for RVs with varying degrees of levelness.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Thousand Trails Paradise RV Campground offers two stocked fishing ponds popular with families. "My grandson loves coming here with us the two ponds they stock with fish," notes one visitor. The area's freshwater fishing extends to nearby Silver Lake as well.

Disc golf course: Toutle River RV Resort maintains a disc golf course among its recreational amenities. "There's a frisbee golf course that we didn't use but looks fun, really nice playground for the grandkids that's a fort, a store, swimming pool, a recreation hall with nice paintings on the outside," describes one camper who explored the grounds.

Mount St. Helens exploration: Several campgrounds provide convenient bases for volcano visits. "My wife and I enjoyed the campground, we will be back the next time we want to hike at Mt. St. Helens," reports a visitor at Thousand Trails Paradise. Mount St. Helens Visitor Center sits only about 10 miles from some campgrounds, making day trips practical.

What campers like

Swimming facilities: Thousand Trails Chehalis offers multiple swimming areas for families. "Kids are helping review campgrounds we visited this summer. They loved that there was scavenger hunts for pigs in morning, tractor rides in afternoon, face painting, slushees, movie in lodge, crafts," writes one parent whose family enjoyed the amenities.

Lakefront camping: Silver Cove RV Resort provides direct water access for fishing and water activities. "The sites almost all back up to the water and fishing is pretty easy here. Mostly crappie and bass though I've seen a couple trout or perch pulled out," explains one regular visitor who appreciates the waterfront location.

Spacious sites: Several rv sites near Onalaska, Washington offer substantial room for larger rigs. "The sites I've stayed in are huge. Room for a fifth wheel (awning and slide out), two vehicles and two large dogs without feeling packed in at all," comments a camper about the RV pads at Silver Cove. Site dimensions vary significantly between campgrounds.

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Many RV campsites require significant leveling. "Horrifically unlevel to the worst degree, front back side to side, every space is horrid. If you have auto levelers, you'll have an easier time but still rough," warns one full-time RVer about specific spots at Paradise.

Power reliability issues: Electrical service quality fluctuates across campgrounds. "[At Thousand Trails Chehalis] we ended up running on our battery and generator for the last two days we were there because it was so dangerous to plug in," reports one camper who experienced power surges between 110-130 volts.

Seasonal crowds: Midway RV Park serves as a strategic stopping point between major cities. "We stayed here 2 years in a row for the Seattle to Portland bicycle ride. Nice and clean with great showers. Staff very friendly and helpful," notes a cyclist who found the location convenient during peak travel season.

Tips for camping with families

Activity scheduling: Thousand Trails Chehalis organizes regular family activities. "There was scavenger hunts for pigs in morning, tractor rides in afternoon, face painting, slushees, movie in lodge, crafts, slushees, a great store, basketball court, pools and overall, the experience was phenomenal," shares a parent whose children enjoyed the structured programming.

Playground access: Toutle River RV Resort features extensive play areas. "There's random trails, a playground, big green fields, volleyball court, etc. Plenty to keep them busy and felt completely comfortable letting them run around," writes a parent who appreciated the safe environment for children to explore.

Mini golf condition: Harmony Lakeside RV Park maintains water recreation opportunities for kids. "Our family had a great time at Harmony Lake. The staff was helpful and the prices are reasonable. The park is clean and most of the sites have large trees around them," reports a family who found the shaded sites beneficial during summer visits.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: At Thousand Trails Paradise, backing sites offer specific advantages. "The site was level and backed up to a creek that was down below the site. The stay site was quiet, no one camping on our driver side did have a neighbor on the passenger side," explains one RVer who found the creek-side location particularly peaceful.

Campground navigation: RV sites near Onalaska, Washington can present maneuvering challenges. "It took a long time to get set up because of the ridiculously small amount of space I had to maneuver my 33ft RV and my 8ft extended cab truck," warns a driver at Majestic Mobile Manor about the tight turning radius needed for larger rigs.

Seasonal water restrictions: Water systems occasionally require special attention. "Additionally there is a water issue that asks you to boil water," notes a camper regarding precautionary measures at one campground during their stay, highlighting the importance of bringing adequate drinking water supplies.
