The Best Camping Near Emery, Utah

Wide open area south of Freeway exit 99, Miller Canyon Road.  Going to the south the pavement ends and you are in a grey moonscape BLM land.  Bentonite clay likely so do not be here if wet or rain in forecast.  This primitive road goes for miles to the south into the north end of Capitol Reef Nat park, overlander types only!.  Amazing that on the ridge to north is a nice cell tower, so couple bars LTE on ATT and TMobile, but not Verizon.  Great spot if dry for a overnite stop.

Got here just before dark and viewed a lovely sunset.  Yes, it is close to 70, but noise is not bad.  Open land all to ourselves.

Right off I70

Get off the highway and onto a dirt road with no clear designated sites, just pull off wherever. The night sky was probably one of the best I've seen with almost no light pollution. The absolutely deserted site became a little creepy once it got completely dark, with faint glimpses of I70 in the distance.

Great stop point for me driving SoCal to Boulder.

Nothing here but the aforementioned moonscape.

Arrived dusk 3Jul24 after a hasty retreat from Last Chance 8 or 10 miles west (mosquitos).  Only 2 or 3 managed to track me east at highway speed!

There was no one else here, far enough from the highway.

  

Pulled into the giant dirt bowl, turned right and drove until front of car was slightly elevated for my sleeping position (back of a wagon).  

  

Proceed with caution in inclement weather or you may get stuck.
