The sound of traffic from the main road provides a steady backdrop at this state park campground positioned directly along Reelfoot Lake's shoreline. Sites feature paved drives and concrete pads, with each offering electric and water hookups plus fire rings and anchored picnic tables that cannot be repositioned.
Campers consistently note the tight spacing between sites, particularly in the main loop closest to the lake and visitor center. "Each of them had electricity and water," observes Katrin M., though she found the proximity challenging for those seeking more privacy. Sites 22, 24, and 25 back up to forest and provide more room for tent setup, but these low-lying spots flood first during heavy rains and stay soggy longer. The cypress root systems create uneven, lumpy ground throughout much of the camping area.
Two bathhouses serve the campground, with reviewers noting clean facilities and strong water pressure. The building near site 23 offers larger, more accessible restrooms and showers. A small gift shop operates seasonally, renting canoes and kayaks while selling ice and basic supplies. The boat ramp sits adjacent to the check-in building, though width restrictions limit larger watercraft launches.
Wildlife viewing draws many visitors, with bald eagles, osprey, herons, and seasonal pelican migrations commonly spotted from lakefront sites. However, the proximity to water brings intense mosquito activity that multiple campers describe as problematic. Cell service proves spotty throughout the grounds. For those wanting quieter camping with more space between sites, the park's Airpark North Campground — Reelfoot Lake State Park offers an alternative, though it requires driving to reach the lake and town amenities.
