Reelfoot Lake State Park is located in the northwest corner of Tennessee and is noted for its fishing, boating and wildlife viewing. The 15,000 acre lake was created by a series of violent earthquakes in 1811-1812 that caused the Mississippi River to flow backwards for a short period of time, creating Reelfoot Lake.

The park’s ecosystem is unlike any other place in Tennessee. Reelfoot lake is a flooded forest. While Majestic Cypress trees rise above the water, below the surface are many submerged Cypress stumps. A variety of aquatic plants and flowers occupy the shoreline and saturate the shallow water. The lake harbors almost every kind of shore and wading bird as well as golden and American bald eagles.

Primitive camping is permitted in designated areas. Walk-in camping is allowed, EXCEPT during all deer and turkey seasons. Camping is allowed on or adjacent to parking lots, unless otherwise posted.

Campers are limited to 14 consecutive days in a 30-day period, with a total of 30 days within a calendar year. Groups of 10 or more need a special use permit.

Donaldson Point Conservation Area is about six miles southeast of New Madrid. The area can be accessed from county gravel roads off Route WW and Route AB. The area's 5,945 acres are at the north end of Donaldson Point, which is formed by the New Madrid Bend Loop of the Mississippi River. This same loop isolates a portion of the state of Kentucky. The Mississippi River forms part of the east and west boundaries of the conservation area and provides about seven miles of river frontage. Construction of the levee created about 60 acres of ponds that are open to the public. The land is nearly flat. During seasonal flooding, large portions or all of the area may not be accessible. The forest trees on Donaldson Point include cottonwood, willow, ash, elm, maple, pecan, sycamore, boxelder, hickory, and some bottomland oak species. Donaldson Point also is home to several species not usually seen in the Mississippi lowlands. These include the endangered Swainson's warbler that nests in giant cane, Mississippi kites, bald eagles, interior least terns, swamp rabbits, and cotton mice. The Conservation Department purchased the land for Donaldson Point Conservation Area in 1984. The land was formerly owned by Anderson-Tully Corporation.

58 lot Campground located at Reelfoot Lake, TN. Tucked in the northwest corner of Tennessee is a thriving ecosystem that is distinctive from any other park in the state. It’s actually a flooded forest, with majestic white cedar trees, aquatic plants, and flowers, and more birds than you could ever hope to see in one spot. Reelfoot Lake encompasses 15,000 acres, perfect for boating and fishing (swimming isn’t allowed). Swamp canoe tours are offered in season, and if you come in January, you’ll be hanging out with thousands of bald eagles that winter over in the park.

    General Watkins Conservation Area

Maybe not a travel destination, but certainly a good waypoint.

We opted for this site on our way west as a stopover because it was free and not a parking lot. There are a couple of loop trails and we walked one of them. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon. The locals use the area for fishing and walking and it was somewhat busy in the afternoon. A couple of guys fished at night until about nine. There was only one other couple camping. Very quiet and peaceful. There was a portable toilet but we didn't investigate.

The cool thing was that the loop trail was forested by hundreds of paw paw trees. It must have been just past the season and we saw only a couple of decaying ones, but the entire trail smelled of apple cider vinegar and was quite pleasant.

If you consider this waypoint, two things:

    1. The last mile is good, but very dusty, gravel road.

    2. No cell coverage in the parking lot for T-Mobile, some coverage on loop trail.

    Nice private locationl

There are only two camp site at this location and they are very close to each other. The camp sites are also very narrow. We camped in the lower site and had a difficult time getting everything out of the road.

On the positive side, the site was clean, there was nobody there over the weekend and there was a humming bird. The pond had lots of frogs and and a few fish.

    Beautiful Location

    Site 17

Location : perfect location if you’re wanting a good view of the water. Brush is cleared behind this site making it a clear view to the water / sunset. The sunset is breathtaking. Directly across from the bathrooms, laundry, & dumpster. Paved site. Fire pit. Tree located right in front of the spot, would only be a problem of putting out an awning.

Bathrooms : Shockingly clean! Large bathrooms. Laundry area located in the same building. Dumpster outside of the building.

Cons : I can’t even explain the amount of mosquitoes at this site - of course because you’re directly on the water, but the mosquitoes are insane. We had trouble locating the campground by the address on the reservation. We ended up finding it by putting in Blue Bank Resort which is located right next door.

    nice stay

We stayed in our 30' class C for one night. Check in was easy and the lady who helped us friendly and informative. Got an goodie bag with waters, coozies, and local information in a cute little paper bag...just like at some hotels! We were escorted to our site. It was just long enough for the rig and our toad (51' total length). It wasn't completely level, but had we needed to stay longer we would have leveled ourselves.  It's a basic campground with amenities (which we didn't use but had available), and we would overnight there again while in transit. As a bonus, we were given some tomatoes which were homegrown and absolutely delicious! Thank you!

small campground with water and some sites with working electric near lake and farm land

electric was not working at some sites and one post had hookups for two sites. No sewer, there is a dump station down the road. east side campground was busier and had more people than the smaller west campground where we stayed. sites are not well demarcated and grass lots. campground near boat launch and a decent restroom with showers that mostly worked. gray lake for kayaking. about 30 minutes from Cape Girardeau no which is a decent sized town or similar to Sikeston, MO. There is gas, liquor store and dollar general within 10miles. west side was very peaceful for most part. first come first serve, no reservations but fairly cheap. electric not working at first 3 or 4 sites so check before you set up your camper.

    Great stay

Stayed for the night on the south campground and it was excellent. Lots of friendly people with locals and travelers alike . Only downside was the massive amount of gnats and mosquitos by the lake sites. Bring your mosquito repellent and don’t let them take away the great experience you can have here! :)

    Reeled in at Reelfoot SP

This is a great state park campground, with the water and electric close to each pad, Although some sites have water on one side & electric on the other! The camp sites out along the main road actually faced the main road, so your front door opens on to the main road about 75' away. Camp sites on the water are great, but it's not an easy walk in to the water, there are cypress knuckles and no beaches. campsites along the end and side between 19 - 25 are actually backed by swampy overgrown woods, rather than actual waterfront. There are a lot of snakes so be aware of those.

South Campground — Reelfoot Lake State Park

    Getting Reeled at Reelfoot

Campground is well layed out with everything well marked. The campsites all have Blacktop drives With concrete pads for picnic tables. Picnic tables are fastened down so you cannot move them. Water and electric are near each site as well as a standard fire ring. There are 2 shower houses on each end of the campground and then there are also several bathrooms on each opposing corner so they're close to all camp sites. Beware the lake has a lot of snakes, so if you are in a lake front campsite you are more likely to see snakes. And the sights along the leg from 23 24 25 up to 68 and on down to the seventies on the map looks like it's lake front but it's actually backed with wooded overgrowth.

South Campground — Reelfoot Lake State Park

Family friendly, simple campground with lake views

This campground had a lot of families, a simple but age appropriate playground (ages 5-12), and many spots with views of the lake. The bath house nearest our site (88) was not in commission, and judging from the webs and nature overtaking it I would say it hd been closed for a long time. The land is low so if there is heavy rain it will be soggy in many places. The site we had was spaced nicely from others but close to the main road. Lots of campers with dogs. Only one hiking trail on-site. We did choose one night to go to the resort restaurant (a fish house) next door to the campground (a quick walk even with small children).

Nice park with some great water front sites

Reelfoot is just a few hours from our Tennessee home and a great weekend spot. The campground is next to a waterfront restaurant with boat/fishing and a nice deck. There are several restaurants and stores close to the campground.

The camp store is small but has essential items and the folks were nice. They delivered wood to our site.

    Best place to camp

This is a Army Corps of Engineers campground. We love it because it is quite and peaceful. The sites are well maintained with asphalted pads, fire pit, grill, camp light pole and picnic table. Best of all it is full hook up. Redman West traditionally has older campers (sites 1-40)but Redman east usually has more kids (sites 41-109) (currently under remodel 2023 season). Both sides are family friendly. We camp Redman West March to November.

If your RV needs service, CAMP HERE!

The owners Lowell and Jill are THE BEST HUMANS. We were on a cross country journey when our slide suddenly stopped working. A Reelfoot lake park ranger recommended Coyote View and I’m so glad we went.

They easily made us a reservation and Lowell looked at the slide the next day. He ended up having to go basically wire by wire to find out what was broken. He ordered the part and we were on the road 3 days later. Jill was so kind and reassuring!

The bathrooms and laundry facilities at the park are very nice. 10/10 would recommend!

No Major Changes from Our Last stay

We called Bootheel a few hours from arrival in early January, and there were plenty of spaces, so we headed in. When we arrived at the campground(CG), there was a sign at the self check-in that there was no water due to the recent heavy rains and flooding. Water was on in the showers and laundry but not the sites. That put us in a bit of a pickle as we found out on the day before departing our home base that our water pump was not pulling water and making a terrible noise. Having been to this CG before, we just figured we'd get a FHU site and deal with the water pump when we reached warmer weather. However, there was no water fill available, and we had very little water in the tank. We could have planned better for this had we been told about the water situation when we called. We drove around to the back row where FHU sites 40- 45 were available. We chose 43, which had the least flooding. As we had just departed from our home base near St. Louis, we didn’t need to dump, and that was a good thing as the sewer might be full due to the flooding. We carry a spare water pump, and during the replacement, we found that the filter part had cracked, so we removed that part, and we were back in business. We had overnighted here several times before with no issues. They did not offer a discount for the inconvenience."

We arrived just after dark. The friendly staff took us to our site right away. Nice and clean area. Quiet area. Has one restroom & shower each for men and women that is super clean in well lit area. Our only hiccup was we passed it first time driving by so look closely for the entrance. Veterans discount. We would 100% stay again if we needed to.

    J.T. Lambert's Cafe RV Park

    Okay for an Overnighter

After reading a couple of reviews on this new campground (CG), we called about availability and got someone at Lambert’s Cafe who was not much help. We arrived at this new RV park addition to Lambert’s Cafe from I-57 with no issues. Coming in from I-57, we followed the signs for Lamberts and J.T. RV Park on the left side of the road. The entrance to the RV area is the second entrance into Lambert’s main parking lot. You follow the signage back to the CG which sits off to the right and behind Lambert's. This CG is first-come-first-serve. There’s a sign at the kiosk that states sites 6, 7, 8, 9, 27, 28, 29, 30,& 31 are for stays of one week or longer. We selected and parked in site 25 with FHUs, and then went back to the kiosk and paid our$40. The sites are narrow and very close to each other but this was on a Sunday and the park was fairly empty. There were about five transients overnight along with the four long-termers so having someone next to you was not an issue. There is no fire pit, picnic table, cable, or WiFI. One of the long-termers told me there’s a plan to put in a shower house, restrooms, and other amenities. We do not know if this is factual as we did not see any camp-host type of person during our stay. The CG is in an industrial area and we heard backing beeps at about 2:00 AM for a few minutes but other than that it was not bad for this type of area near a main road. We noticed a long-term resident taking their dog out and not picking up after the pet, which seemed to be common based on the'land mines' we noted while walking our dogs around. There is a dump station here that is a $10 fee if not staying in the CG. Lambert's Cafe is within easy walking distance. We had good water pressure at 50 psi and 4 bars on Verizon. This place is pretty much a parking lot with no trees so no problem with satellite. We got a good variety of OTA stations as well. This CG was a little on the pricey side for what you get unless maybe you are a huge Lambert’s Cafe fan. No surprises at this new RV Park as the sites are pretty much level and the roads easy to navigate. However, this place worked for an overnighter.

    Unlevel sites.

The Mississippi River views from the campground are gorgeous. Stayed here 1 night traveling to Reelfoot Lake. The site of a civil war fort on high bluffs adds a bit of history to your stay. Our back in site on the river side of the campground was very unlevel. Bathhouse was ok.
