Small but sweet

Deceivingly small, there are 5 sites near the trailhead entrance for the falls and another 6 sites on the top side of the falls. You have to drive a mile or so up the highway to get to from a forest service road that does not even hint at these six sites or any sort of access to the falls. Between the two, I like the stealth forest service road sites better as they are right next to the river and seem less popular due to the difficulty in finding them. The forest service truck was actually out and loading the vault toilets at both sites with fresh rolls. There is a vault toilet at the trailhead that is in desperate need of emptying, but the vault toilets in the campgrounds were still ok. You can take a very short hike to the falls and there are a couple of nice footbridges over the river below the falls to get to both sides(though there are some great logs to cross too). The main campground is heavily treed and sites are not all level. The topside sites have less trees and are spaced pretty good for privacy.

Small but beautiful

Five total sites here, smallish, too small for big rigs or anything over 20 ft except one site suitable for up to 30 ft. Cheap, like seven bucks with access card. No hookups. Vault toilet. Right next to beautiful Clearwater Falls, hiking trails. 15 min from Diamond Lake, 30 from Crater Lake NP. Would camp here again.

Rustic Forest Service

Beautiful waterfall and cold clear river running through old growth evergreen forest. Easy access off of highway 138 east - limited turn around area for larger RVs.

Very short stay.

We got in at about 9:00 pm and had to leave the following morning at 8:00. The vault toilet was clean and not especially stinky. The campsite was large and very flat, with a picnic table and fire ring. There is a nice waterfall right nearby and the surrounding first is beautiful.

tiny; but close to waterfalls

This campround is a lot like the nearby Whitehorse falls campground. Very small and primitive, but with a waterfall right in the park. It is also just down the road from Diamond Lake and is close by many other waterfall destinations. I would think that this would also be a good spot to use as a backup plan if all other grounds were full. It was very busy when I visited, but found if I stayed for a bit and took the less popular trail, I had that side of the falls to myself. Very peaceful once the crowd dies down.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Upper and Lower Clearwater Falls Campground?

Clearwater Falls Campground is divided into two distinct areas. The lower section contains 5 sites located near the trailhead entrance to the falls. The upper section offers 6 additional sites situated above the falls, accessed via a forest service road about a mile up the highway. This upper section is less obvious and not well-marked from the main road. Both areas provide access to the falls, though from different vantage points, and share the same primitive amenities.

Where is Clearwater Falls Campground located in Oregon?

Clearwater Falls Campground is located off Highway 138 East in Southern Oregon. It's positioned approximately 15 minutes from Diamond Lake and about 30 minutes from Crater Lake National Park. The campground sits within an old-growth evergreen forest with the Clearwater River running through it. Its convenient location makes it an excellent base for exploring multiple waterfall destinations in the region.

What amenities and facilities are available at Clearwater Falls Campground?

Clearwater Falls Campground offers basic, primitive facilities with vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings at each site. The campground is small with approximately 11 total sites spread across two areas. There are no hookups available for RVs. The campground is affordably priced at around $7 with an access card. While amenities are minimal, the natural setting compensates with beautiful old-growth evergreen forest and proximity to the waterfall. Be prepared for mosquitoes due to the nearby water source, and note that vault toilets may occasionally lack toilet paper.

What are the best spots to view Clearwater Falls from the campground?

The best view of Clearwater Falls is just a short 3-minute hike from the campground's trailhead entrance. A standout viewing spot includes a log positioned in front of the falls, which makes for excellent photographs. The waterfall is easily accessible from the lower campground area, with trails leading directly to viewing areas. For a more secluded experience, try visiting early in the morning or during off-peak times when fewer visitors are present.
