Forest Service free site

  1. Got to the lake area and all campground sites were full.  So we explored!  We traveled out NF-2612 over the dam to the right. About 1 mile down the rode, We came on to a big pull out with big boulders blocking a trail, which led down the the lake! Two great spots for tents. The lake was right there beautiful setting!  Of coarse the mosquito's were very thick.  I would return if in the area. On Forest service land not developed so was free!!  Great fishing, was across the inlet from a boat launch.

Choice of forest service camp sites or a few first come first serve beach spots. The lake is beautiful and easy to navigate with the KOA and store on the southwest side. Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make reservations at Lemolo Lake Campground in Oregon?

Lemolo Lake offers both reservable Forest Service campsites and first-come, first-served options. For the main Forest Service campgrounds, you can make reservations through Recreation.gov or by calling the reservation line. The KOA campground on the southwest side of the lake also takes reservations through their website or by phone. If you prefer spontaneity, there are a few first-come, first-served beach spots, but these fill quickly during peak season. For the best chance at securing a spot, make reservations well in advance, especially for summer weekends and holidays.

What's the difference between East Lemolo Campground and other camping areas at Lemolo Lake?

East Lemolo Campground offers a more secluded experience compared to other areas around the lake. While the main Forest Service campgrounds tend to be more developed and busier, East Lemolo provides a quieter alternative. The KOA on the southwest side offers more amenities including a store for supplies. For those seeking a truly primitive experience, there are dispersed camping opportunities along Forest Road 2612 past the dam, where you can find pullouts with lakefront access. Each area offers a different balance of amenities, privacy, and proximity to the water, allowing you to choose based on your camping preferences.

What fishing opportunities are available at Lemolo Lake?

Lemolo Lake is a prime fishing destination known for rainbow trout, brown trout, and kokanee salmon. The lake is regularly stocked and offers both shore fishing and boat fishing opportunities. For the best experience, launch from one of the designated boat ramps around the lake. The lake is relatively easy to navigate, making it suitable for various watercraft. Fishing is typically productive throughout the summer months, with early morning and evening hours providing the best results. Remember to obtain an Oregon fishing license and check local regulations regarding catch limits and seasonal restrictions before your trip.

What is the best time of year to camp at Lemolo Lake, Oregon?

The optimal camping season at Lemolo Lake runs from late June through early September when the weather is warmest and most activities are accessible. July and August offer the most pleasant conditions with warmer temperatures and fewer mosquitoes. By mid-summer, mosquito populations typically diminish due to heat. Late spring (May to early June) can be beautiful but expect cooler nights and more insects. Fall brings colorful foliage but cooler temperatures. Always check road conditions if planning early or late season visits, as access may be affected by weather.
