The rocky shoreline and elevated campsites create a distinctive lakeside camping experience at this 371-acre state park just outside the bustling city of Laredo. Campers find themselves surrounded by South Texas brush country while maintaining easy access to urban amenities, with sites offering water and electric hookups for RVs alongside options for tent camping.
The campground operates with well-spaced sites, many positioned to overlook the 1,650-acre lake. Covered picnic tables provide shade at individual sites, though the open terrain offers limited natural shade from trees. Cole C. notes the park "feels as if you are deep in the woods" despite the nearby city. The rocky shoreline appeals to families with children, avoiding the challenges of sandy or grassy lake access.
Fishing draws many visitors, with catfish commonly caught along the shoreline during midday hours. The lake accommodates various watercraft, from fishing boats to jet skis and stand-up paddleboards. Several beginner-level mountain bike trails wind through the property, while hiking paths showcase seasonal wildflowers. Recreational facilities include a swimming pool, playground, basketball and volleyball courts, and baseball field.
The campground features both pull-through and back-in sites, with some requiring leveling for larger RVs. Restrooms are maintained regularly, though their distance from certain sites may influence site selection for tent campers. Analia F. confirms that "campsites have hookups for water and electricity if you bring your RV." The park tends to be less crowded than other state parks, providing more privacy between sites.
This campground suits RV travelers seeking full hookups with lake access, families wanting multiple recreational options, and anglers looking for convenient fishing opportunities near an urban area. For additional options, see camping near Laredo.
