Hikers seeking backcountry access will find Chester Hollow Backcountry Shelter #1 positioned along a creek within Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park. This Tennessee Valley Authority-managed shelter requires a hike-in approach and operates on a free camping basis with advance reservations available. The site prohibits pets and allows campfires.
One reviewer notes the steep hill access to some sites and mentions wooden deck construction for certain camping areas. The lakefront positioning provides water access, though campers should prepare for the hiking requirement and terrain challenges when planning their stay.
Description
Located on the Chester Hollow Trail, this shelter sits atop a very steep hill. The trail elevation rises 150 feet in under one-quarter of a mile.
