Off Forest Road 16 in the Blue Mountains, Starr Campground sits among fir trees within Malheur National Forest. The US Forest Service facility operates from May through October, providing drive-in access to numbered sites that stretch along the forest road. Sites 1-6 position campers closer to the main road, while sites 7 and higher offer more separation from vehicle traffic.

The campground layout places all sites side by side among the trees, creating a linear arrangement that reviewers note stays relatively uncrowded even on weekends. Blaine R. found "plenty of room for my small trailer" at site 9, located about a quarter-mile from the road. Despite the proximity to Forest Road 16, road noise remains minimal according to campers who have stayed overnight.

Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets available but no running water. The campground allows pets and alcohol, and campfires are permitted when conditions allow. For those exploring the broader region, campgrounds near Malheur National Forest provide additional options within the same forest system.

Bring your own water and check current fire restrictions before arrival, as conditions can change throughout the season.

Many campers appreciated the tidy sites and beautiful location close to Strawberries area. Site placement matters - higher numbered sites offer better privacy from road proximity.

Superstarr!

Nice area close to the road. Plenty of room for my small trailer. Though it was close to the road it wasn’t very noisy. I camped in site 9 so 1/4 mile away from the road. Only issue last role of TP.

Quiet

Stayed here on a Wednesday night and there were only a couple other campsites taken but I have a hard time believing it gets much busier on the weekends. Nice, secluded campground right off the road. Sites 7+ are definitely in a better spot and have more privacy.
