Highway noise mingles with the sound of the Coquille River at this seven-site Forest Service campground positioned directly along the water. Island Campground sits on Highway 138, making it accessible by car but also subject to road sounds throughout the day and night.
The campground accommodates RVs up to 22 feet, with one pull-through site at the end and the remaining six requiring backing in. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets and trash service provided year-round. No potable water is available on-site. Kyle Y. notes that "river access was good from our site and the camp was clean" during a September visit.
The location serves as a practical base for exploring the area's waterfalls along Highway 138, with the campground's central position allowing easy access to multiple cascades within driving distance. Campers can explore additional campgrounds near Siskiyou National Forest for different experiences in the region. The $10 per night fee applies during the May through October season, with pit toilets maintained year-round for off-season visitors who can access the area.
