Part of BLM Land managed by the Medford Grants Pass Field Office, Tucker Flat requires a challenging two-hour drive on rough, curvy roads from Galice. The campground sits on a steep hill above Mule Creek, with six official sites that can accommodate additional dispersed camping when needed.

The Bureau of Land Management maintains pit toilets that reviewers note stay clean, and campsites allow campfires, pets, and alcohol. Campers access Mule Creek for wading and swimming by hiking down the steep slope from their sites. Hunters pack the area during October season, according to the adjacent Rogue River Ranch caretaker. Watch for poison oak around the creek area.

A long, slow drive to a remote site

A two hour plus drive on rough, curvy road from Galice. Six official campsites, but room for plenty more. The caretaker from the adjacent Rogue River Ranch said that it's packed in October during hunting season. The campground was tidy and the pit toilets were clean. The campsites are up a steep hill from there lovely Mule Creek - a great place for wading and swimming in the crisp cool waters. Watch out for poison oak.

Frequently Asked Questions

What amenities are available at Tucker Flat Campground?

Tucker Flat Campground offers basic amenities suitable for primitive camping. The facility includes clean pit toilets and six official designated campsites. The campground is maintained in a tidy condition. While facilities are minimal, the campground's layout does allow for additional unofficial camping spots beyond the six designated sites. There are no hookups, showers, or potable water available, so campers should come prepared with all necessary supplies.

What is the best time of year to visit Tucker Flat Campground?

The best time to visit Tucker Flat Campground is during the late spring through early fall, when weather conditions are most favorable. Summer offers warm temperatures ideal for enjoying the surrounding area, though the campground's location provides some relief from extreme heat. Avoid October if seeking solitude, as the campground becomes extremely crowded during hunting season. The remote location requires navigation of rough, curvy roads that may be challenging in wet or winter conditions. Spring visits might offer wildflowers, while early fall provides pleasant temperatures with fewer visitors outside of hunting season.

How do I make reservations for Tucker Flat Campground?

Tucker Flat Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no formal reservation system. Given its remote location (a two-hour drive on rough, curvy roads from Galice), securing a spot midweek is typically easier than on weekends. During peak periods, particularly hunting season in October when it becomes extremely busy, arriving early is highly recommended. For the most current information about the campground's availability or policies, contact the managing agency before your trip.
