Best Cabin Camping near Cheyenne, OK

Several campgrounds within driving distance of Cheyenne, Oklahoma offer cabin rentals for visitors seeking more shelter than traditional tent camping. Foss State Park Campground features two relatively new cabins available for rent near its marina and lake access points. The Elk City-Clinton KOA provides furnished cabins with half-kitchens that accommodate basic cooking needs. According to one visitor, "We stayed in a cabin with a half kitchen that met our needs perfectly. The bed, however, was so soft that it was hard to sit up or get out of it because you just sank." Flying W Guest Ranch in Sayre offers two types of cottage accommodations priced between $100-120 per night, providing a more private cabin experience away from highway noise.

Rustic cabins and more modern units are available depending on the location and price point. Most cabins in the region are pet-friendly, with the KOA specifically offering a dog park where "pups can run free off leash." Reservations are strongly recommended for all cabin accommodations, particularly during summer months when lakeside properties see higher visitation. The cabins at Foss State Park tend to book quickly due to their limited number and proximity to water recreation. While some facilities operate year-round, visitors should verify seasonal availability when planning trips during winter months. The Flying W Guest Ranch cottages offer a unique western-themed setting that includes a café and potential for horseback riding arrangements.

Most cabin rentals provide beds and basic furniture but require guests to bring their own linens, pillows, and towels. Kitchen facilities vary significantly between locations, with some offering only microwaves while others include refrigerators and stovetops. The KOA location includes an on-site store, restaurant and bar called "The Moose Knuckle Tavern" where visitors can purchase food and supplies, though one reviewer noted the store prices were relatively high. Visitors staying at more remote cabins should plan to bring groceries and essential supplies, as options near some of the parks are limited. Air conditioning is available in most cabins, an important consideration given Oklahoma's hot summer temperatures.

    Foss State Park Campground

    Foss State Park

We tent camped at Foss State Park in August 2020. We stayed at the Cottonwood campground site #6. All the tent sites were very spacious. There was a picnic table and grill and a water faucet nearby. The sites were nice and grassy and mowed. The bathroom was nice and clean with individual showers, each with their own door. So they were nice and private. Some of the old reviews mention needing quarters for the showers but they are now free. The playground was new and the kids had fun playing on it. The RV spots were a little crowded on the backside of the campground but pretty spread out closer to the entrance. We drove through the Sandy Beach campground and it seemed nice and secluded but the picnic tables were a little run down. The playground was really old too. But I think the bathroom was newer. Also, there was no sandy beach in this area. 🧐

The swim beach was nice and sandy. Much better than a lot of Oklahoma lakes. But like most lakes in Oklahoma, the water was super muddy.

There are two cabins for rent here. They looked pretty new as well. They have a marina and I believe you can rent boats but we never checked it out.

Overall, I definitely recommend Foss. It was a nice family friendly park to visit.

    Foss State Park Campground

    Cedar point campground-Foss state park

Very nice, clean campground. About 12 pull through sites and a group site for tents. All spots had a level cement pad to park, picnic table and fire ring. Right on the water. Beautiful view. The campground was fairly empty when we stayed and it was very peaceful and secluded, although if the camp was full it wouldn't be very private. Great place to fishing or boat. There is a decent size marina with a restaurant in the park as well. There were a lot of bugs but maybe that's just the way OK is in July... Just bring bug spray!

    Great atmosphere and peaceful

It is close to the highway so you will hear some traffic noise, however, it is a very peaceful spot. We stayed in a cabin with a half kitchen that met our needs perfectly. The bed, however, was so soft that it was hard to sit up or get out of it because you just sank. Great staff, friendly and helpful. Make sure you buy ice before you come as the store is expensive.

    Foss State Park Campground

    Route 66 stop over

This is a huge camping park, with lots of sites for RV’s with full hookups, partial hookups, and a seperate tent area. The bathhouse was really clean, with pay showers. There is a nice swim beach, great open fields for sport games, a nice playground, frisbee golf course, and supposedly a small herd of bison behind the visitor center that you can watch come in to feed daily (I missed that somehow). I didn’t feel like the RV sites were as on top of each other as they seem in other campgrounds I’ve been to. The tent sites were ok, with some on the lake with no shade, and others tucked in among a tight bunch of trees. All had the usual picnic tables and fire pits. This park is not too far off Hwy 40/Route 66, so it is a nice place to camp if you are travelling Old 66.

    Flying W Guest Ranch

Unique stay off the beaten path but convenient to I40

Let’s face it– there are not a lot of camping options as you traverse your way across Oklahoma! We typically do not enjoy RV parks that are right on the highway and look for any place that might be unique (and quieter). Flying W Guest Ranch fits the bill. It is less than 10 miles off I40 between the small town of Sayre and the slightly larger one of Elk City. The ranch serves as a wedding venue and also, the Sayre Junior and Senior Prom was recently held there. There is a small western-themed town that includes a cafĂ©. There were horses and I believe you could arrange a horseback ride, but we did not ask as we were passing through.

There are eight RV sites accessed by a separate entrance about a half-mile walk or drive from the “town”, laid out in typical RV park style and they have water and electric hookups, but the sewer hookups appeared to be disabled. As Harvest Host members, we paid $10 but non-members pay $30. There are also two types of cottages; I did not inquire about them but their website indicates they are $100-$120 per night. An option is a sirloin steak dinner for $25, which my husband enjoyed while I was happy with a baked potato and salad for$5. You need to arrange for this in advance, but a few hours’ notice was sufficient when we were there.

We were greeted warmly by the staff (Samantha and Burl, the owner). I believe this property is currently for sale and sadly, it is a little worn around the edges. My main reason for three stars instead of four is that the bathhouse did not have running water and it appeared it had not been in use for quite some time. This would make it more suitable for fully contained RVs but it was less optimal for us in our campervan.

    Elk City-Clinton KOA

A fine place to recharge before embarking on your next journey

We stayed here for one night on our way from Raton, NM to Devil’s Den State Park in AR. The campground was well staffed, clean, and signs clearly marking the entrances to the property and sites by number.

We stayed in pull-in site #59, which is paved. The site was perfectly level left to right and we barely dropped our tongue jack to level front to back. There is a laundry, playground, and dog park where the pups can run free off leash.

The coolest part of the campground is the store / office / bar, called “The Moose Knuckle Tavern” (lol). They have pizza, wings, burgers, a salad, and some apps. Call about 30 minutes ahead so you can place your order and not have to wait for your food. Also, plan your stay around not being here on a Sunday. The campground is in one of only 5 counties in Oklahoma that don’t allow alcohol sales on Sundays...lame.

    Elk City-Clinton KOA

    Super small campsites

The campground is easy access off 40 and quick check In.  It has a tavern.  They stop serving food very early.  Pool was not open.  My big complaint is that the sites were super small.  We had a concrete pad and that’s it.  We opened our (small) RV door and we were stepping in the next camp site. No picnic table.    Luckily this was an over nite spot.  I would not recommend for more than 1 night.

    Foss State Park Campground

Beautiful scenery. Some details need work though

We stayed on site 7 at “Sandy Beach”

We had fantastic neighbors and a great view of the lake.

Unfortunately the bathrooms/showers were the worst of our four stops on this journey. They were pretty bad.

Additionally, our shoreline power went out overnight too. Thus, we leaned on the generator to get us through the 100 degree night.

    Elk City-Clinton KOA

Easy Access of I-40 but very loud traffic noise...

The KOA was easy to find, easy to check in. The cell signal was good (AT&T) and the wi-fi was acceptable - about 8 MB dl speed and 1 MB upload. I was a ways away from the main building - site #52.

The restaurant / bar closed at 5 pm but it's February, so there's that. If you are looking for easy access and don't mind traffic noise it's fine. The sites aren't very large but plenty for my Jeep and Pop-up camper. They were nice and level.

The showers / restroom was very clean. I didn't make use of the laundry facility.
