Within Falls Lake State Recreation Area, Holly Point operates as a state-managed campground from mid-March through October, offering both primitive and full-hookup sites across multiple loops. The campground sits on Falls Lake's shoreline, with sites ranging from $27 to $77 per night and accommodating tent campers, RVs, and walk-in visitors.
Tall pines create substantial shade across most sites, though drainage varies by location. Myron C. notes that "some of the sites were not well drained, but site 123 is," highlighting the importance of site selection during wet weather. The campground features spacious sites with picnic tables, fire rings, and trash receptacles, while bathhouses provide hot showers with tiled floors.
Direct lake access defines the camping experience here. Several sites back up to Falls Lake fingers for immediate fishing access, while a designated swimming area includes a small beach. Two boat ramps handle launching traffic during busy periods. Caroline G. reports that "you can kayak directly to your campsite" from certain waterfront locations. The lake supports largemouth bass, yellow perch, bluegill, and catfish species.
Noise levels fluctuate seasonally, with boat traffic beginning around 6:30 AM during summer months. Some campers report late-night activity from across the water during peak season. RDU airport flight paths create occasional overhead noise. Sites in loops 4 and 5 receive preference for lake proximity, while interior sites offer better hammocking opportunities among the mature trees.
Reservations are recommended for waterfront sites and summer weekends. For additional camping options in the region, consider Shinleaf - Falls Lake SRA just one mile south.
