Paddlers and anglers will find direct water access at Goose Creek State Park Campground, where a small dock provides launch points for kayaks and canoes into Pamlico Sound. The 14-site tent camping area sits tucked into wooded terrain with spacious, well-separated sites, while the newer RV section features full hookups on gravel pads with less natural screening.
The campground operates two distinct areas with different atmospheres. Tent sites 11-14 occupy a small peninsula with partial water views, though Brittany L. notes that "there's a hiking trail that runs directly behind" site 11, creating foot traffic through the area. The RV section, opened in 2019, lacks mature vegetation between sites but provides level gravel pads and heated bathhouses. Cell service proves spotty throughout the park, with AT&T showing the most reliable coverage.
Multiple hiking trails wind through the 1,672-acre park, connecting to a swimming beach and various wildlife viewing areas. Charles G. observed that "wildlife walks right by, several deer on our trip." A three-mile canoe trail map guides paddlers through protected waters, while the fishing dock accommodates small groups despite its compact size. The park maintains vault toilets near tent sites and full restroom facilities in the RV area.
Summer brings heavy populations of ticks, mosquitoes, and biting flies, making insect repellent essential. Firewood sells for $5 per bundle on the honor system, but the visitor center stocks no camping supplies, bait, or ice. The park stays open year-round, though the swimming beach may close seasonally. For campers seeking alternatives, Creek Life and Campground On Blounts Creek operate within seven miles.
Reserve sites 11-14 for water proximity, or book RV spots well ahead during peak seasons when the park's relative isolation draws repeat visitors.
