The concrete pads at Hatteras Sands Campground sit close together in an open layout with minimal vegetation between sites. Located in Frisco along a canal system, this privately managed facility operates from April through November and accommodates RVs with full hookups including 50-amp electric service.
Sites along the waterway offer the most appealing placement, though privacy remains limited throughout the campground. Roger W. notes "the sites along the waterway would be nicest" while describing the overall spacing as "very, very close." The concrete surfaces handle larger rigs well, but maneuvering can prove challenging on the narrow internal roads. Pull-through sites accommodate bigger units, though turning radius becomes tight when the campground fills.
An Olympic-size swimming pool anchors the recreational amenities, drawing families during warmer months. The canal system allows fishing and kayaking directly from waterfront sites. WiFi and cable TV reach all sites, though cell service varies with AT&T showing two bars in recent reports. The air-conditioned bathhouse stays clean, and laundry facilities operate on-site.
Road access proves straightforward from Highway 12, positioning campers within minutes of Outer Banks beaches and ferry connections. The campground's location makes it a practical base for exploring campsites near Frisco, though the tight quarters may not suit those prioritizing solitude. Reservations help secure preferred sites, particularly those facing the water. N I. observes that "some trees or shrubs would be nice" to enhance the currently open setting.
The facility works best for RV travelers comfortable with close neighbors who value amenities over seclusion.
Description

Set among beautiful canals and grassy fields, our resort has over 60 paved RV sites. Hatteras Sands Campground welcomes “big rigs” with many sites featuring water, sewer and electric hookups, cable and WiFi. On Hatteras Island, you can fish right from the beach or take a charter boat out to the deep blue water of the Gulf Stream. Take in the soulful coastal restaurants and interesting mom-and-pop shops. While your setting will be a bit more on the untamed side of nature, it will be a simpler and quieter part of the barrier islands.
