The lake was awesome, not much shade on most tent sites. make sure you ask when they dredged the lakes that you want to stay on.
Nice playground, picnic tables, and charcoal grills. Clean restroom. Free tent camping. good fishing in the canal. Close to town yet far enough away.
Nice parks in town including a memorial to Andrew Jackson Higgins, the inventor of the Higgins landing craft,
Mammoth waterpark.
Better park for a picnic than camping.
This is another NRD lake, and pretty well maintained. However unlike Wanhoo you don't need a pass or permit. Also the tent camping is free, and electrical is 18. From what I heard the fishing is good and the lake itself is beautiful. Not to mention there is the little town of Prague and the lake itself is in the Bohemian alps of Nebraska. It is also quiet and peaceful. The few down falls I can see is the lake is not simply accessible from the rvs. Also the trees in the tent area, that are close to the lake, and could cause issues with mosquitoes. So if your looking for something different, but not a ling drive from Omaha or Lincoln area, I would tell you to give it a try.
If you want a spot where the hookups are, go early on Thursday or Friday. It fills up very quickly. The tent sites are off to the side, but plenty of room. Loup PPD takes very good care of this place! A large pond to swim or kayak in, and great fishing in the canal. There is a four wheeler course on the other side, which can get loud, but if you can ignore that, this is a great little place!
I tent camped in the old lakes part of the campgrounds. There are at least a dozen small lakes part of the grounds. The new lakes are busy and full of RVs. If you want a less busy area, find the older section.
Big beautiful sites, BUT there is a very busy set of train tracks that run about every 20 minutes all day and all night. Didn't get any sleep, even with earplugs. Plus, it's right next to a busy highway so you get to hear the locals revving their over-sized trucks into the early hours.
Facilities were very clean. Cleanest I have ever seen in a campground.
Tons of water, a few trails, lots of sites to camp.
When we got here on Saturday we were lucky enough to get the last spot. I would definitely call ahead to reserve a spot if going for the weekend. It is a college town and a state park so it was busy. Everyone was having a great time boating, fishing, camping, swimming, and etc. There are playgrounds, day use areas, picnic shelters, concessions, restaurant/shop, fishing pier along with many small fishing lakes. There are 2 larger rv campgrounds- Pathfinder and Victory Lake, and then a smaller one on the other side of the railroad tracks. All sites have Electric only. There are lots of tent sites. All around nice park and quiet during the week.
Fremont lakes has several areas, or laked where you can camp off of. Victory lake is the lake where all types of motor powered boats are. These is also the lake that has mainly rvs camping off it. There is a concession stand or restaurant right off next to the many beaches. There is also a beach a little more secluded on the north side of the lake and another on the east side. There are several area and a tent site off a couple of the other lakes. They seemed a little tight or closer together.
You also have the option of staying in the north camp grounds or cottonwood, where I stayed. This are closer to more primitive, they have very few electrical site and lakes or more untouched. But the sites are farther apart, and you are left more alone by game and parks. However this area is a little more rundown and can tell they didn't put much time into it. Also the floods of 2019 really took a toll on this area in particle.
The downfalls is this place is always packed, the trains are louding going through at night. And the old part where we stayed could use some repairs.
All of Fremont lakes and activities available make it a must see from tent campers to rv users.
With tent and RV camping, this is a great place for a quick getaway if you live in Southeast Nebraska. There are picnic facilities and a snack bar, but you're also not too far from Fremont where you can buy supplies or grab something to eat. There is not much privacy as a side effect of having few trees. The lake is stocked so it's a decent spot for fishing.
They have 18 electric sites $26/night and tent non electric sites for $18/night. 7 day max stays. Reservable.
Clean quiet lake by Prague a small Nebraska town with a great Bakery and fun festivals.
The camping is quiet and clean as were the toilets. I did not fish but was told the fishing was very good,
I am driving 8 hours across the state of Nebraska to go spend some time with my daughter who attends Wayne State College and to watch some theater performances she is in. I wanted to ensure that I had a place to park my camper but unfortunately I am unable to reserve a spot. It is first come first serve only. Hope I have luck finding a spot when I arrive in about a month to stay for 5 nights!
So we stopped at the gas station across from this gem! Again, if boondocking is your thing, Nebraska is on target. Apparently most of the city parks allow up to 3 days camping at their city parks. It looks like showers are in the bathrooms but we didn’t go in. The last city park did have showers but hadn’t been used or cleaned in a while.
This camping area has open sites close to the edge of the lake. Electric hookups, toilets, and convenience store close by.
The lake is artificial and has steep metal walls like a reservoir, which was probably what it was. Next to the reservoir is a large wetland teaming with wildlife. There is a long paved trail that skirts the lake.
Columbus Nebraska has a lot going on including a rather mammoth waterpark.
We didn't actually Camp there and truthfully I'm not so sure I ever even saw the campgrounds. But the lake in the area is beautiful and there's quite a large space to the park with lots of trails and open field areas. I believe you have to pay a fee to the DNR for a day pass or purchase an annual Nebraska park pass/license in order to even go through the park. There's a few places outside of town that advertise horseback riding and I always thought that would be a sweet place to do so. We mainly went to fish!
We went out to Czechland with my sons scout troop and had a nice time camping and fishing. The lake is gorge and the boys were catching a lot of crappie, as well as some large mouth bass and bluegill. They have some really flat tent areas, as well as some basic spots for RV’s. Very quiet area with some great views of the lake. The weather was a bit up in the air for some of the weekend and they do not have any storm shelters, so that is about the only thing does require an upgrade. Overall though it is a great place.
Nice quiet camping experience. Clean restrooms with showers. Also has a mountain bike trail.
This campground is one of our favorites. It’s got clean restrooms and showers, plenty of water available plus the dump station. Nice lake for fishing or kayaking. Great trails for hiking or mountain biking. Super quiet place and some pretty great sunsets!
Very nice clean well maintained cg on a pretty lake. Modern rest room w showers. Electric at site. Various water spigots throughout. Dump at entrance. Quiet restful picturesque. But the roads getting there are terrible. The west road in is 2 miles of gravel then 3 miles on dirt. Wont make it if it rained. Don't even try. The east entry is 4-5 miles of 5 mph washboard. Tie everything down. 3 bars of at&t. It is such a nice place but I will not return due to poor roads. The $25 cost should be $18. I stayed in a 26' B+ but big rigs will fit.
We stayed there late July 2023. This year they added a camp host. When we pulled up, he greeted us and was very friendly! Having a camp host has made the campsite much more safe and appealing. The locals told us it used to be a mess and it's so much better now. The campsite was much better than I expected for Norfolk, NE. We will be staying here again! Can't beat the price.
Before we pulled up, we had to fill with water because there is no water at the sites themselves. And no sewer dump at the sites. (There is one on your way out). However, we had full 50 amp power. The concrete pads made it nice to park the RV on for easy set up.
The sites are large with space, electric only,ok bath and shower. A large fenced dog park. Great stop for a night or two. Host very helpful.
This park is a nice place to visit during the day, but not a place I would stay over night. Has access to the Cowboy trail which is great for walks, runs, and biking. It is near the highway coming into Norfolk and attracts some strange people typically. This area is also known for a drug deal hotspot.
This is a CITY campground. We stayed here May 9, 2015, in our small class B rv. It is an OK choice when no other more scenic and quiet options are available. We pulled in late and left early on our way to better places! There is some road noise as it is just off the road into Norfolk. Bathrooms were clean, we were very tired and noises did not wake us during the night.
Great stopover campground or for staying awhile. Norfolk is nearby and has a lot of restaurants and shopping. The Cowboy Trail starts here and continues to Valentine, NE. Clean bathrooms and showers as well.
There is no camping here it is a golf course. The fairgrounds campsite is nearby and so is a municipal park campground.
This was a nice site. Right along the river.
We cooled off in the city pool and had a great time. Rest rooms were nice. We put the pop-up by the river and camped for free.
We took this opportunity to visit the John C Neidhardt Center in nearby Bancroft: http://neihardtcenter.org/
Pros
-Amenities for the kids, (Playground, pool)
-Public Bathrooms nearby that have showers
-Dump Station
-Electricity
-Water on premises to fill tanks with
Cons
-I didn't see much for gas and food in town if you are hoping to swing in for a night and get back on the road tomorrow
-Dump station could use a bigger trash can but they seem to have done a good job putting other cans around the park
This is a fairly clean and mostly level campground that is a nice stay if your end destination is Clarkson. If you are looking for a spot to swing in, fill up on fuel and food, and leave the next day then the nearby campground in Howells might suite you a little better.
Small towns tend to be quiet areas anyway and this is surrounded by small towns. Therefore it has that ALL is welcome feel, quiet and beautiful grounds. I believe it’s fairly new. There’s a wonderful trail to walk around a small lake. Beautiful just doesn’t justify the look and feel of this place.
