Best RV Parks & Resorts near Choteau, MT

Choteau Mountain View RV Campground offers full hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer connections for RV travelers. Located at 85 Mt Highway 221, this established facility provides 50-amp electrical service and accommodates big rig vehicles on level sites. The campground operates seasonally from May through November, with amenities including clean restrooms, showers, sanitary dump station, and picnic tables at each site. Nearby Pondera RV Park in Conrad provides year-round accommodation with similar hookup options, though without some amenities found at the Choteau location. The Brady RV Park offers more basic facilities with electric and water hookups but lacks sanitary dumping options on-site. "Sites were flat and grassy, bathrooms always clean. Nice breeze at night even in a heat wave."

Advance reservations are recommended during summer months as local RV sites can fill quickly, especially during regional events. Most parks in the area maintain well-maintained access roads suitable for larger motorhomes, though travelers should check specific entry conditions during spring when weather can affect road quality. Dump stations are limited in the region, with options available at Choteau Mountain View and Pondera RV Park. Cell service varies throughout the area with better coverage in established towns. Pet policies are generally accommodating, with most parks allowing animals with standard restrictions. Winter visitors should note that while some facilities remain open year-round, reduced services and weather considerations apply to RV travel from November through April.

    Choteau Mountain View RV Campground

    Great price for amenities!

We found this campsite on our way to Glacier National Park when we needed a tent site for the evening. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Only $22 for a site without electric hookups or $24 for one that does. The campground is very clean and offers showers, restrooms, laundry, dishwashing station, picnic table, cooking grill, fire pits, and WiFi included.

    Great Falls KOA

    Nicely appointed KOA

General: Just about every option you could ask for (except for tents): 50-amp FHU pull-thru, 30/20-amp with w/e(back-in and pull-thru), FHU with patio, glamping tent, one and two-room cabins and cottages.

Site Quality: Different from many KOAs we have stayed in is that the camper pads are gravel, not paved, and there are quite a few trees that provide decent separation/privacy between the sites. The sites are bordered by railroad ties, and some are a tighter fit than others. A few of the sites at the end of the row before the glamping site appeared a little overgrown. As is usual for a KOA, our site was assigned upon check-in. The first site we were assigned didn’t work out for us since our electric cord could not reach the pedestal. Be aware that electric connections are shared between two sites so if you do not have an extension cord, you may have a problem (or need to be reassigned which was easily done for us).

Bath/Shower House: Accessed by code. All-in-one units with soap and paper towels. They were clean.

Activities/Amenities: Many and varied including a water playground (guests can join you here by paying a fee), petting zoo, train, dog park, yard games, bike rentals, propane fill, dump station, laundry, ice, ice cream, and free pancakes. There was even live entertainment!

We don’t typically stay in KOAs or RV parks (mainly because of cost and lack of privacy between sites) but they are good for us when we need showers, laundry, and a dump station. Although still more than we like to spend for camping, this one was a pleasant surprise with the number of trees on the property. The staff was exceedingly friendly!

    Choteau City Park

    What a great spot

I was presently surprised by this spot! It is pretty much in town, on the outskirts. There is a dump station and a spot to get drinking water. There’s shady spots and pull through ones. There’s a huge spot that would be able to accommodate the largest motorhome with a trailer, it’s huge! You can pay online, there is a $1 fee. The creek runs through and it’s so calm and pretty. The park is attached so it’s fun for the kiddos. Worth a visit!

    Great Falls KOA

    Good for families with kids

We don’t have kids and so our pull through site missed on what is important to me ( at this expensive price point): nice manicured paved site with shade. The park does have a decent sized area to walk your dog and has a small off leash dog park. Fire pits are a plus. Pool has to be any kids dream with slides and a lot of toys. They also have a petting zoo. The park did its job for our overnight stay but I was happy to leave. Oh, pull through sites are good sized and hookups were quality.

    Great Falls RV Park

    An ok park

Basic RV park, needs to be updated. Lots of long term, old and run down campers. Water, electric and sewer ok. A good deal of highway noise.

    Prewett Creek RV Park

"A Hidden Gem Along the Missouri River "

We booked online and got a super helpful email with everything we needed—directions, campground info, Wi-Fi password, rules, and even a bridge clearance warning at Exit 244(“Canyon Access”). Since our rig stands tall at 13’ 6”, we played it safe and took the Hardy exit instead. Smooth sailing right to the park! Camp hosts Jesse and Ronnie gave us a warm welcome and guided us into FHU Site 8. We did a bit of the ol’ RV shuffle to back in our 40’ 5th wheel(thanks to a small drop-off across the road), but with a few adjustments, we were in and leveled. The site was nice and long, with room to park across, and hookups were well placed—electric toward the back, water and sewer mid-site. Connectivity check: Verizon gave us 1 bar, T-Mobile 2 bars, and the campground Wi-Fi wasn’t too shabby(6.03 Mbps down/ 1.05 up). But for streaming, our T-Mobile home internet saved the day with blazing 59.4 down. The bath house and laundry area were clean and convenient, with 2 washers and 2 dryers($2 each). There’s a fenced dog area too, great for traveling pups. The real magic here is the setting—nestled in a peaceful valley that muffles I-15, this place is a nature-lover’s dream. We spotted deer casually strolling through the campground and bighorn sheep doing their thing up on the rocks. The park is spacious, beautifully laid out, and refreshingly quiet—most folks are out fishing during the day and resting easy at night. No playground means fewer kids, so if you’re looking for tranquility, this is your spot. The Missouri Inn Restaurant and Bar, right next to the campground, served one of the best cheeseburgers we've had on our travels. Just up the road in Cascade, the 486 Market was surprisingly well-stocked with reasonable prices. It also has a gas station with diesel, offers 20 lb propane cylinder exchanges, and fills propane tanks. After over 300 campgrounds in the past 7 years, Prewett Creek easily lands in our top 10. And Jesse and Ronnie? Top-tier hosts—friendly, helpful, and genuinely great people. We’ll definitely be back, and next time, we’re staying longer!

    Willow Creek Campground

Pay sites and free dispersed area both

The 6 miles between where the pavement ends and when you reach the main paid camping area is so washboarded, I thought I was going to lose my mind. But we and our 26ft class c survived with no broken bits.

The main camping area is nice, but pricey in my opinion at $18/night. Each spot is along the water and comes with a nice flat pad to park on, fire pit, picnic table, and shade structure. There are pit toilets as well. No other amenities. We chose to keep going, mainly because $18 felt like too much money. The road is not so washboarded when you leave the campground, and we did ok driving around the lake for about a mile until we found one of the free dispersed sites. No amenities here, of course, other than some home made rock fire pits. Each spot is really private and segregated from the next spot.

The lake was nice and cool and refreshing to swim in when we arrived on a hot July day. No cell service here. The ATT phone had a bit of service, and with the cell booster was even able to stream. The Verizon phone had nothing. Lots of mosquitoes here, swarms of them at dusk when you’re trying to enjoy the beautiful sunset.

    Choteau Mountain View RV Campground

    Nice Family Run Campground

This is a former KOA campground that was purchased by a family. We stayed her in the summer of 2018 during a very hot spell. We didn't have reservations and fit onto a site (#22) with a nice view of the distant mountains. Restrooms were always clean, even very early in the morning. We stayed two times. The second time we again didn't have reservations and they were expecting a large influx of families for a baseball tournament. They put us in the large RV area and we were grateful for accommodation. They have a small mini-golf area, picnic tables at the sites, and full hookups (as expected). They also have laundry facilities.

Guide to Choteau

Camping options near Choteau, Montana sit at the intersection of the Rocky Mountain Front and vast prairie landscapes at approximately 3,900 feet elevation. The area experiences distinct seasonal variations with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F during peak camping months. Several campgrounds remain accessible through fall with reduced services, while winter camping options become limited after mid-October when nighttime temperatures regularly drop below freezing.

What to do

Wildlife viewing at Freezout Lake: This free dispersed camping area serves as an excellent base for wildlife observation. "Secluded place by the water. It smells like you're by the ocean, has a clean portable potty, tables and benches, level enough for an rv, quiet and perfect for star gazing!" reports camper D0min0 3., who adds the practical tip to "[bring bug spray] Starlink is fast here."

Hiking nearby trails: Choteau City Park offers convenient access to local hiking paths. "There are two loops on either side of a small creek, a dry side and a shaded grassy side. There is also a terrific dog park just down the road within walking distance," notes Susan. This $10/night option provides a budget-friendly base for day hikes.

Fishing access: Prewett Creek RV Park positions campers along the Missouri River with prime fishing opportunities. According to MickandKarla W., "The real magic here is the setting—nestled in a peaceful valley that muffles I-15, this place is a nature-lover's dream. We spotted deer casually strolling through the campground and bighorn sheep doing their thing up on the rocks."

What campers like

Quiet atmosphere: Many campers appreciate the peaceful settings. At Freezout Lake - Dispersed Camping, Julie K. mentions, "Secluded, flat parking lot in a wildlife refuge. We woke to the sound of birds. The pit toilet was really clean. We were the only ones there."

Family-oriented facilities: Great Falls KOA receives praise for its amenities. "This is a very kid friendly campground... There is a large playground, volleyball court, basketball, and pools," notes Angela G. Another camper, Megan B., concisely states, "Pool and playground are great for young kids."

Clean bathrooms: Several reviewers specifically mention bathroom cleanliness as a standout feature. At Great Falls KOA, Jamie B. describes, "The tent villages are very close to a nice restroom/showers that require a key code to get in."

Value pricing: Budget-conscious campers appreciate reasonable rates in the area. Brooke from Choteau Mountain View Campground notes, "Only $22 for a site without electric hookups or $24 for one that does. The campground is very clean and offers showers, restrooms, laundry, dishwashing station, picnic table, cooking grill, fire pits, and WiFi included."

What you should know

Seasonal mosquito issues: Freezout Lake campers consistently mention insects. Dani warns, "I took a star off because by 9pm I had to retire to my camper because the mosquitoes were so bad - but that's to be expected." Dharma adds, "late in the evening after sunset there will be lot of mosquitoes so better be prepared."

Wind conditions: The open prairie location means wind can be significant. Alexander S. mentions Freezout Lake is "pack in pack out, but otherwise it is great." Dharma specifically notes "there will lot gusting wind at night."

Limited sanitary dump stations: Brady RV Park lacks on-site dumping facilities but provides electric and water hookups. Cody S. describes it as "a nice campground just off the interstate. Not to far from Glacier Park and the Canadian boarder."

Seasonal operations: Many area campgrounds close during winter months. Dave S. notes that Choteau City Park has a "$10/night 3 night max" policy, while another review mentions it operates from early May through late September.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Great Falls KOA offers extensive family amenities. Judy K. shares that the campground has "everything you need. An outdoor swimming pool and hot tub, tent, cabin and rv spots. Outside kitchens. Shower area, small store, playground, and wifi. A lot of room to move around and have fun."

Tent village options: For families without RVs, consider specialized tent areas. Jamie B. describes Great Falls KOA's tent village as "a nice roundabout of tent sites. There are walls separating the sites for privacy, but the area is big enough for your vehicle and a large tent, or multiple smaller tents."

Mini-golf availability: Choteau Mountain View RV Campground provides recreational activities on-site. Jessica B. mentions, "Mini golf course for entertainment. Beautiful area, only complaint was there wasn't a lot of shaded areas and camper sites were very close together."

City park proximity: Choteau City Park offers playgrounds adjacent to camping areas. Samantha S. writes, "The creek runs through and it's so calm and pretty. The park is attached so it's fun for the kiddos. Worth a visit!"

Tips from RVers

Site leveling considerations: RV parks in the area have varying terrain. At Choteau Mountain View RV Campground, Norma S. details, "We stayed her in the summer of 2018 during a very hot spell. We didn't have reservations and fit onto a site (#22) with a nice view of the distant mountains."

Water connection requirements: When staying at rv parks in Choteau, Montana and surrounding areas, pack extra hose length. At Shelby RV Park, Brandon notes, "Make sure you have a long water hose as some of the water connections are far away."

Winter RV accommodations: Limited year-round rv parks operate near Choteau, Montana. Brandon explains about Shelby RV Park, "At this time it's only $25. We stopped here after leaving Canada, but would be a great last spot before entering Canada also. No sewage hookups, but they do have a dump station."

Bridge clearance awareness: Some routes to area campgrounds have height restrictions. MickandKarla W. shares practical advice about travel to Prewett Creek: "We got a super helpful email with everything we needed... even a bridge clearance warning at Exit 244.
