Bear Track Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Reached via several miles of gravel roads, Bear Track Campground sits at the edge of the Little Manistee River in Manistee National Forest, operating on a first-come, first-served basis from early May through mid-September. Sites accommodate RVs up to 50 feet and run $24 per night. No reservations means arriving early is the practical move, especially on summer weekends.

Sites are flat, well-shaded, and consistently described by visitors as clean and well-maintained. Each one has a fire ring, picnic table with a cooktop extension, and a post with hooks for hanging fishing gear, a small detail that signals how central angling is to the experience here. The Little Manistee is 50 to 100 yards from most sites, and a kayak and canoe launch sits near the group area. Vault toilets are serviced regularly. The hand pump provides water, though one recent visitor found it missing its handle, so carrying your own supply is a reasonable precaution.

Cell service is essentially nonexistent. H. S. notes the campground has "no internet, no phone signal," and recommends a satellite-based GPS unit to navigate the gravel road approach. That lack of connectivity is part of what draws repeat visitors, some of whom report hearing wolves howl at night. Campers who want full hookups or reliable signal will find more options among the campgrounds near Wellston or at nearby Irons RV Park and Campground. Bear Track rewards those who come prepared for a genuinely rustic stay.

Silence and Solitude

This is a first come first serve CG but we were so early we were the only ones there. Located at the end of several gravel roads the sites are clean and well maintained.

Good fire rings and posts with hooks for drying fishing gear are at each site. The sites had been blown free of leaves and were clean and neat as were the pit toilets.

The water pump was sans handle but we had brought plenty anyway.

The area is beautiful and right next to the Little Manistee!

Rustic seclusion.

No running water.
No electricity.

No flush toilets.

No internet.
No phone signal.

Pure heaven.

Rustic campsites. 50-100 yards from the river. Great water from the pump. Nice clean vault toilet. Very quiet at night. Peaceful and beautiful. We've gone ever year for the last 5 years. Going again next year.

Highly recommend a satellite-based GPS unit like Garmin or TomTom in your car. I was serious when I said no phone signal so Google Maps ain't gonna' get you there.

SiteHave slept at sites #4, #2, and #7. #4 was our favorite.

Absolute silence

We tent camped here for a week, we are people who love the quiet the rustic and the simple when it comes to camping and this place checked those boxes. centrally located for hiking in the national forest or fishing and not far for a beach day, the $24 a night felt well spent.

The little manistee river is down a small ridge along the backside of the campground, by the group site there is kayak and canoe launch. Vault toilets clean and serviced daily and seriously the silence at night when there was strangely no wind, no bugs, pure silence outside, was amazingly eerie. We also heard a wolf pack howling multiple nights.

Absolutely would stay again. If you want to throw down and be loud or need a lot of amenities this isnt for you

Rustic camping in the forest

I stayed just one night, but would happily come back. Nice setting, good site size, and close locations for water and bathrooms. Each site has a campfire ring and picnic table with cooktop extension. Sites are quite flat and all well shaded.
