Fiddlehead Campground

River access defines the experience at Fiddlehead Campground, where sites sit directly on the Saco River in Fryeburg. This private campground operates as a base for tubing, boating, and river activities, with multiple access points including drive-in, walk-in, hike-in, and boat-in options. The open terrain provides clear views of the water, though campers should expect a party atmosphere, particularly during peak summer months.

Most visitors come for the river recreation rather than traditional camping amenities. The campground provides basic facilities including electric hookups, drinking water, showers, and a dump station, though some reviewers note portable toilets rather than permanent restrooms in certain areas. Sites range from $10-15 per person, and the property allows pets and campfires. A camp store handles basic supplies, while the town of Fryeburg sits nearby for additional needs.

The clientele skews younger, with heavy drinking and partying common on the beaches. Fiesta H. found the sites "nicely spaced out" with water views and "clean, friendly caretakers." College-age groups dominate the mid-July through early August period, when noise levels peak. Cell service appears limited based on reviewer comments about being "off your phone."

Fiddlehead works best for river enthusiasts comfortable with a social, party-focused environment rather than families seeking quiet camping. The Canal Bridge Campground sits just 0.2 miles west for those wanting alternatives.

Many campers appreciated the scenic river sites and spacing, but noted the basic facilities with only portopotties. Several reviews mentioned the party atmosphere makes it better for college-age visitors than families.

Weekend on the Water

Camped right on the Saco River on Beach 2. it’s absolutely beautiful. Definitely not a place for young kids because there’s a lot of partying on the beaches. Lots of fun & can’t wait to go back.

Yay Fryeburg!

Great camping spot with wonderful sites with water views. Nicely spaced out which I find important. Clean, friendly caretakers and close to town for quick last minute needs.

Best for Party People and young folk

Great campground. Middle of the woods, on the Saco river, with all your friends, no electricity, off your phone and enjoying the moment. Best for College kids and partiers between mid July & early August. Never a dull moment

Riverfront campground for riverfront tubing

This campground is really just mean to house people who plan to tube or boat down the Saco river. They have fire pits but there are not bathrooms only portopotties. There is a camp store. Most of the patrons are younger and are drinking most of the time, but that’s what it’s meant to be. Very basic campground.
