"Some ambient traffic noise. This is a good campground for day trips into NOLA."
"Located only 15 minutes from the heart of New Orleans!! The campground is spacious and each site is separated by trees or bushes. It’s very affordable like most state parks are, which is a plus."
"There is a protected area on the lake within the park that you can launch your boat and they do have two restrooms with showers as well as washers and dryer’s to clean your clothes."
"It sits on the edge of a large freshwater lake and has great views. Many sites appear to be Big Rig Friendly. There are various sections of park to choose from."
$77 - $98 / night
"The spaces are a bit tight, only RV spots have a fire pit. Showers are well kept but the place smells musty. The location can’t be beat and the employees are great."
"Nearly all back in but skilled staff helps you back in. WiFi was good. Bathhouse clean and adequate. Great location for visiting New Orleans. Recommend Charles Seafood down the road."
$35 / night
"Convenient to Morgan City, pull through & back in., sunny & shady, great museum featuring aviation, shrimping industry, and Louisiana sawmill industry, Wifi, sewage hookup, water hookup, available"
I wanted to give this place a good review but…Site was dirty with cigarette butts and the grill was not cleaned out in what looked like a long time. Fire pit was still smoldering. Bathrooms were out of toilet paper and soap. Told the receptionist at the front gate. It was still not restocked. Bathrooms were dirty and very moldy shower curtains. Looks like it was once a nice place but not anymore. Needs some updating and someone needs to take some pride in their job and at least clean and restock the bathrooms
The spaces are a bit tight, only RV spots have a fire pit. Showers are well kept but the place smells musty. The location can’t be beat and the employees are great. Very safe area and convenient shopping places nearby. Short drive to downtown. Good Wi-Fi, good laundry and dish cleaning area. Would stay again but I wish the small camper area would be more spaced out and have fire pits or grills. Nice little playground and the pool looked good as well.
Large campground and park that has RV areas and tent camping areas as well. There are a few loops in this campground. Some are paved; the further loop where we stayed is not. Our site was right on the water where were could see pelicans diving for fish and other water birds as well.
If you are looking for privacy this is NOT your place. Sites are very close together and we had to make sure our slide did not hit the neighbor's truck side mirror! Also not very quiet. If you don't hear boats roaming around then you can hear children playing in the multiple playgrounds or the neighbor's music playing or overall road noise. It is a good place if you just need a night or if you fish or have a boat I suppose.
Bathrooms/showers are not very convenient and are not very nice. The shower was full of bugs (dead and alive) and though free you had to consistently keep pushing the "on" button to turn the water on for 30 second intervals. Also, you have no choice as far as water temperature. It wasn't too cold or too hot but if you want hotter in the winter or cooler water in the summer, you don't get that option. There was also only one hook for belongings and the door wasn't secure.
There is a laundry room but it was so far from us (in the other camping loop) that we did not go to it even though we picked this place so we could take showers and do laundry.
This campground is convenient and cheap and close to town and the highway but I don't think I would stay here again unless I was desperate. It is nice and well maintained and clean but the closeness of people and the distance to amenities is a no go.
There is trash (no recycling) as well as the aforementioned showers, bathrooms and laundry. There is also a beach area, playgrounds and boating/fishing. There is a fire pit, picnic table and full hook ups at each site for the RVs.
The website is weird because the "off" and "busy" seasons seem opposite and from other reviews they had disputes over the cost, so we weren't sure what to expect, but we paid $20 online for a Monday night and the nice office ladies didn't say anything when we were checking in.
Nicely wooded campground. Some ambient traffic noise. This is a good campground for day trips into NOLA.
Located only 15 minutes from the heart of New Orleans!! The campground is spacious and each site is separated by trees or bushes. It’s very affordable like most state parks are, which is a plus. The bathrooms and showers were heated and clean, but I did have a tree frog join me during my morning shower. The laundry room charges $1.75 per load and there is no change machine FYI. The sites flood easily due to the marshland climate so be aware of that. Our site even came with a deck which was nice. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much so!
Large campsite with 100 spots filled mostly with RVs.
Pros
Cons
I think this is a very nice camping area for both RV’s and tent camping, but it does have some minor drawbacks. There is a protected area on the lake within the park that you can launch your boat and they do have two restrooms with showers as well as washers and dryer’s to clean your clothes. Bathrooms in nearly every camping area across the country I’ve been to aren’t exactly up to home standards, but it is functional. The people working at the park have always been friendly and helpful. I like to tent camp and even the tent campsites have electrical hook ups. The truly bizarre thing about that is we are located in South Louisiana where the temperatures are absolutely brutally hot and majority of the year and yet they have a rule that clearly states you cannot have an air conditioner in your tent. And luckily, I didn’t see that the first four or five times I stayed there and no one said a word. Why in the world could you not hook up a portable AC unit in your tent considering electrical hook ups are provided and AC units make nearly no noise? Speaking of noise, the park is located in just inside a 90° curve in the highway with two sets of rumble strips in each direction. Being located practically within the city limits of Morgan city, or noise from traffic and the rumble strips doesn’t quiet down until well after midnight and picks back up again in full force around 5 AM. I couple that with the majority of the people here wanting their trucks to make the most noise possible, it’s a bit distracting and makes sleep difficult. Like all camping areas, people are going to listen to all manners and types of music but that quiet down significantly after 10 PM. my last trip about a week ago I noticed that my particular campsite was covered in fire ants that would start to build colonies within all your camping equipment left on the ground outside and they also built a major ant city underneath our tent that wasn’t an issue until I was breaking down the camp and the ants decided to scatter all over the tent inside and out. the fishing is fantastic down here and the wildlife is incredible. You will see alligators of course along with rabbits, black squirrels, osprey bald eagles as well as seagulls and pelicans given our close proximity to the gulf coast. The office has people working in it every day of the week and and there is a Coke machine at the office and they do sell 8 pound bags of ice for $2. Overall, I really like camping here and then will continue to do so as long as no one says anything about having an AC unit in my tent as I would not consider staying in a tent in South Louisiana without one.
Pads are level, wooden deck fire ring, plenty of room for tents, laundry room bathroom & showers were clean, playground well kept. My boys enjoyed the fishing. Short drive to French Quarter.
Upon a whim I was very excited to make an impromptu trip to New Orleans during a very busy festival weekend. Unaware of just how difficult it would be to secure accommodations I decided to check out the local state park, located just a few short miles outside of New Orleans proper.
Information about the campsite was relatively generic, a few good reviews but nothing substantial enough to give me ideas about what exactly to expect. A few videos existed and it seemed like a very interesting place to stay but again with no real feedback steering me one way or another.
I took the plunge to book online since there was limited availability and crossed my fingers that it would fit the bill for a location which met all my needs and exceeded my expectations. I will say it did not disappoint!
Running a bit behind on our travel schedule we were not able to depart until later in the day, which meant we would arrive late into the evening. I called ahead to the campground to let them know we were in fact coming, and boy was I glad I did for several reasons.
Calling ahead when you are running later than typical checkin is valuable in that they will not resell your campsite but also, like in this case, if the park itself has an alternative entrance for campers for post business hours entrance. The park ranger we spoke to gave me a very detailed account of the directions, which proved crucial in the darkness of the night and the confusion of the park's second entrance. Without these instructions we would have simply given up on the campground when arriving late and been very frustrated.
Instead, we were able to enter and find the camping loop and in doing so find our campsite itself. Herein was the only real negative, post a sizable rain, apparently someone had arrived and elected not to stay in their designated campsite and instead had moved their large tent into our reserved site. While their site, just next to ours was left open, and plenty large enough for our much smaller tent, the entire incident could have been avoided if this park would have marked the site like many others do when sites are reserved and prepaid with simple place markers on the posts. Had this have been the case there would have been no confusion late into the evening. We were able to set our tent up, however so we let it slide and just went to sleep in the muggy night.
You have to expect muggy conditions when camping here, it is a bayou, scale back your bedding to light weight materials and just be prepared for mosquitoes. To avoid these we found that keeping the lights off til we were inside the tent was crucial. Those not wanting to feel the Deep South, need not camp here!
By morning, we noticed small rabbits hopping around camp and birds singing to wake you as early as 5:30. The sun starts beaming down by 7:00 and outside the temperatures are quite pleasant til around 9:30 before it starts heating up.(At least in early July)
The first real look we had at the campground was impressive, each site includes water and electricity, a picnic table and grill. The roads around camp are paved and marked for single direction traffic. All sites are compatible for RV or tent campers and are priced equally for each at $33 per night.
Bathrooms are centrally placed on each of the two camping loops and include free laundry and playgrounds. Boardwalks cross throughout the camp for those walking through from one side to the next to allow them bayou views without the swampy feeling grass under their feet.
In addition, a RV dump station is available for those needing one at the entrance and is well lit, otherwise camp has a dim glow at night so to not attract additional bugs in the night.
We met several campers at our visit, everyone was friendly at the campground. With plenty of facilities for social interaction you can enjoy your family or make new friends at the pool, boat dock, shoreside cabins, hiking trails or wave pool.

All in all of 5 Bunnies I would rank this campground 4 of 5 Bunnies. Though bustling and busy on the weekend it remained quite and calm. The location was a short drive or ferry ride from the city making it have the comfort of the outdoors with the city flair we were seeking. The only negative came from the marking system which could be improved upon, however the staff was very friendly and helpful following the incident and made right of the incident.
