10 minutes for downtown KC., MO. and 15 minutes from Overland Park, KS., Walnut Grove RV Park offers a total of 50 lots. We are not a resort, so we don't have pool or activities. You stay here so you can do all those things in the city around us. Amenities include hot showers, clean restrooms, laundromat, dump station, dog park, both 30 and 50 amps sites are available with full hook-ups at each lot. WiFi internet service is available from edge to edge of the park! Paved roads lead to our 50 sites, that our staff is more than happy to help get you in and out of with ease! Along with the historical attractions, there are also several Casino’s near the park; Harrah’s, Argosy, Casino KC and Hollywood Casino. All are located within a 15 minutes drive! Maps and Brochures are available anytime in the front of the office, or just ask one of our Staff for directions to your destination and they will print you a map on the spot! ALSO, with tournament time rapidly approaching, The National Intramural Softball Fields are located just 5 miles West of the Park on Johnson Drive. The Best Camping Near Mission, Kansas

My husbands job took us to Merriam Kansas and we needed a place to stay, we made reservations at Walnut Grove. We were surprised to find it in the middle of a neighborhood. The staff were very nice and helped us into our site. The sites were on gravel and very close to each other. Walnut Grove was both short and long term campers. There were no tent sites. We had full hook-ups, cell service, and free wifi. We had a picnic table and fire ring and could purchase firewood at their store.

During our stay I was awakened to a startling noise and couldn't figure it out until I went outside and saw the walnuts falling onto our camper. By the time we left, everything was covered(stained) tarnish brown. The park is in a walnut grove hence its name. They had a dog run which was not fenced but provided some grass for the pups. They had a laundry mat and clean showers with good water pressure. There also was a strange noise coming from the trees and when I asked the office what it was they thought it was locusts. I knew that was not their noise so I had to find what it was. After searching, I found that it was tree frogs 🐸 and it was their call. So if you are there in September listen and you will hear them, they love the walnut trees.

Close to downtown Merriam  and KC

We made a last minute decision and decided to stay somewhere near KC after a long cross country trip. With it being Memorial Day weekend, we new it would be hard to find a place that would allow a same day reservation. Mark and Kyle at Walnut Grove could not have been more friendly and accommodating when we called to try to reserve a spot. 

When we arrived, the staff flagged us in and showed us to our site. There was free WiFi, clean restrooms, and a nice little shop.  Our site had a 50amp hookup for electric, and water/sewer. There is also a small area for dogs to run around in, while I wouldn’t consider it a true “dog park”, it still was nice to have a designated area to take your dog. 

The most negative thing about this place is that the sites are right on top of each other. I would estimate about 6 feet separated our camper from the RV next to us. For the price to stay here, I would have liked a little more room/privacy, and a few more options for things to do within the campground. 

If it weren’t for the super cool staff, I’d probably rate this location with fewer stars. It worked great as a short term stay, but in my opinion it’s not a place I’d want to stay for several days/nights. 

Friendly staff

When we began our fulltime journey we stayed at this park for a couple of months and learned a lot about it. The management team was very friendly and would often disclose a lot about what was happening at the park. The park was in need of some improvements but it was clean and nice. The spaces are very tight in the travelers section and more spread out in the long term section. Many sites in the park were occupied by storage and the owners never showed up. To walk your dogs at the little park at night, you had to walk through there area. We called this the storage lot. The out of state contractors often had many loud and drunk guests which was obnoxious. They often harassed females walking their dogs to the park through the narrow street, and they were in the back section.

They had reasonable rates when we first stayed there ($40/night for in the city and $500/month). Now it is much more expensive, one night for our rig is $76 according to their website.

We never felt like it was genuinely part of the RV Community, it was more of a stop through or people were staying in the area for a job or to finish a house. It didn’t house many fulltime RVers that would continue traveling. They love to host NASCAR fans and know they are one of the closest parks to the Speedway.

This location was the closest to our family’s homes so we have stayed there three times all together. There is a lot to do nearby and the main draw of this RV Park is definitely the location. You’re not far from downtown Kansas City, and still in the suburbs of Kansas City.

Great place for a somewhat long stay. Staff are very nice and sweet, there’s free WiFi, lots of pull through spots, has a dump station and allows pets. Overall very family friendly. 

Very cute and nice place

Its all about the location and supply and demand. It was very over priced for the tiny amount of space you get and subpar wifi. Thank God our neighbor was nice because the poor guy had no room to get in his truck after we put out our slides.  
It is however the only RV park anywhere near the  area so kudos to them for capitalizing on a very small market. 
The staff is very friendly.  Its clean. 
Its right by several major highways and is very centrally located. Tons to do nearby if you're not from the area; In all directions from where this is! 


Location location location 

Alright, this is our first stay. We (me, wife, 2 kids, 2 dogs) just got our camper today. My wife called em up last minute, and they had a couple spaces left when nowhere else locally did. The gentleman at the desk was exceptionally pleasant, even with a lady reminiscent of an early-90s Rosanne Barr screeching at her child about an ice cream sandwich. 

I made it known that this was our first time and he put us in a pull-thru spot, which was a huge relief. Many thanks for that, my friend. He walked us through our site and made sure we got settled in. Not knowing what else to expect, this was a wonderful asset for our first trip.

I will say, the place is nothing special, in my opinion. Hookups were very easy to access, but spacing is a little tight and the surrounding views are meh at best. Being right off Johnson Drive, there is considerable road noise. These are the only reasons I've not rated higher.

Friendly and Accommodating

We stopped here for the night and had a great stay.  Only 10 minutes away from Joe’s original Kansas City BBQ (super delicious).  

We did pay for the premium pull through site, so we had more room.  Everything worked great, the spot was on a slight hill- but wasn’t terrible to level out.  Would stay here again.  

Nice location to downtown KC

Old park, tight spaces, some full timers and many contractors stay here.  Nice people, very helpful.  Good WiFi, quiet but busy with lots of one night stays moving in and out. 

Convenient old RV Park near downtown KC 

I would recommend staying at the premium pull through sites the other back-in sites are rather small. I like the location it’s close to where I was working and close to downtown so lots of things to do in the area. The Wi-Fi is working well as I am working online from this location. I would recommend this location if you want to be close to downtown.
