The Best Camping Near Fort Wayne, Indiana

This is a great little campground if you are wanting to explore Fort Wayne or are local and want to campout. Easy access to downtown, the Coliseum, IPFW, and shopping. The River Greenway path cuts right through the park, and there is also a boat launch for the river.

It seems rather secluded, but is definitely in the middle of town. As a FW local, we normally do a warm up overnight every year. I wish more cities had campgrounds this centralized!

Bathrooms are nice, and there is also a playground!

Urban Camping

This small, well-kept Campground is a Fort Wayne city park surrounded by industrial &amp; commercial businesses. The Park is clean with the most modern, clean shower/bath house I’ve seen. Unfortunately, the restroom is located across the street from the campground. The sites were occupied by large RVs but we only saw 2 people sitting outside - no campfires, no cooking, no campers. This was just an over night stopover for us so we didn’t care. I suppose this Campground is used by seasonal workers who just sleep &amp; eat dinner there at the end of their workday. The Campground is never dark with streetlights and and the ambient light from surrounding businesses. I’m sure this campground serves a purpose, just not my purpose.This is definitely NOT a destination.

Decent for in the city 

This is a small campground in the middle of the city. It’s directly across the road from the Saint Joe River, very near a dam. You can hear the alarms when the dam is opened or closed. Very clean area!

Fairly modern

I grew up in Ft. Wayne, so when I think of this campground I always think of Johnny Appleseed Festival. We have recently purchased an RV and plan to use it full time. We wanted to stay in town prior to traveling. 

During our stay, I continued to forget that I was in the city. The park is connected to the river greenway which is a beautiful walk along the river!

I was also impressed with how clean the bathrooms and showers were!

Hidden in Plain Sight

Very straightforward reservation and check in process. The grounds are nice with a lovely river right across the street. Bathrooms are A+ with a code for only campers. I would definitely return here.

Short trip for the zoo

Right in the center of Ft Wayne, IN is Johnny Appleseed Park and its accompanying campground. For $24, we got a day of drive in spot with electrical + water hook-ups and wifi. The campground is well-maintained and very clean. There is not a lot of space between the sites, but it’s still plentiful. I noticed a laundry option next to the public restrooms, but did not check it out further. 

Excellent option

We only did an overnight here, but it’s a decent campground. The proximity to downtown and everything else in the area is a huge plus. Showers/restrooms are locked with a code and very clean. I didn’t use the showers, but they look above average compared the the other dozen I’ve seen this summer.

Decent place and friendly

Small Campground near center of Ft. Wayne.  Plenty of trees.  Wifi is free and reliable. Verizon cell service is good: 3-4 bars 4g. It was a nice place to spend a few nights.

Nice Stop

We stayed here for one night on our way to a further destination.  It was nice and quiet even though it’s in the middle of town.  We would’ve enjoyed it more if the hosts hadn’t moved us to a front location by then.  The back area sites 2-8 were so peaceful looking and walking back to that area and through it was like walking into a completely different place.  The key lock entry bathroom/shower house was the nicest cleanest we’ve used.  We would stay here again if we could be guaranteed sites 2-8.

They have a tremendous pet park with a well maintained yard. The only problem so far has been the water distribution. But the price is very affordable. My site was 30 dollars a night. Bath house and bathrooms are very nicely kept clean. And there is a river right beside it. 

The pet friendliest place so far

Let me start out by qualifying my 5-star review by saying it is site specific. Our site was one of the more private which earned the 5-stars. But, even in a different site it’s a great place to stay for a few nights as you explore the area. 
Easy in and out, good electric service, water at the site, good Verizon signal, easy dump station access, and friendly camp hosts.
Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman) burial site is next to this county park. And he is celebrated each Fall within the park with a festival.

They have the best bathrooms that I have ever seen in the campgrounds.You can even look out at the skylight at the sky.Why you take a shower and while you go to the bathroom is well.It's a beautiful bathroom very well kept.Thank you so much to the campgrounds....
