cagles mill lake dam recreation area

Part of the Army Corps of Engineers' Cagles Mill Lake recreation area, this overnight parking spot sits near the dam structure in a small paved lot. The area provides access to multiple trailheads including Welch Woods and Two Falls, with GPS coordinates 39.48844, -86.91824 helping visitors navigate the rural location. A reviewer noted adequate cell service for mapping despite the remote setting.

The parking area has a slight slope, and a bear-proof trash bin sits adjacent to a picnic shelter. Bathrooms are present but may be locked seasonally. Early morning traffic from Corps field office workers passes through around 6:30 AM, though distant highway noise remains minimal. Campers can also find Lieber State Recreation Area nearby for more developed camping options.

Welch woods trailhead peaceful overnight

It was pretty easy to find if you put in these GPS coordinates. Or simply map to the “Welch Woods trailhead”parking area. Or “Cagles Mill dam”. Or “two Falls trailhead parking”.

I needed a place to stay and stopped for dinner at loves truck stop in Mooresville Indiana on I 70. I took a wrong turn, of course, but I found my way. Luckily I had just enough cell service to keep mapping working. Just input these GPS coordinates

39.48844, -86.91824

Depending which way you approach, I approached From the south I think. It was nighttime when I got lost, but anyway, if you approach in the big dam is on your right, that’s the direction I went. I just stopped and parked in the first small parking lot on my left. It was a nice, clean, one night stay. There is a bar proof trash bin for use right next to the small parking area just across from the picnic table shelter. One car drove past me around 6:30 in the morning, so I suppose that probably was somebody going to work in the army Corps of Engineers field office. I could hear some distant far off traffic at times, but mostly serene and peaceful. There is a slight angle or slant to the parking area that I parked in, so you might want to consider parking at the 2 Falls trailhead parking area, I didn’t even know it was there. But now that I’m looking at satellite photos it’s just a little bit past the tiny parking area. I parked in across from the picnic shelter. There are bathrooms, but they were locked.
